  1. it sounds like an interesting game, Drake. There was one mechanic I had some comments on/questions about. What is your way to incentivice/enforce sharing of information? In LG31, when I died, I was still rooting for the village and wanted them to win. If an elim had had a role allowing him to contact me and ask questions, I wouldn't have felt particularly inclined to answer his questions unless there was a rule stating I'd have to. I can think of two ways to handle this, though other people can probably think of others. First would be to make the lifeless faction share the victory-condition of the elims. This means that everyone in essence has a traitor-role that triggers on death. This might be how you are already planning to do it. The other way is to have a rule that elims get a (limited) number of questions they can ask a new lifeless, that the new lifeless has to answer truthfully. This could add an interesting dynamic in which the elims will actually need to know what questions to ask. If they don't know about that one PM the new lifeless had, they can't ask about it either. However, this would mean that the newly killed have no stake in the elim cause, and would mean they'd try and find ways to weasel out of giving actual information.
  2. Actually, the rule is that energy can't be created and destroyed, with the caveat that it can change form. Matter can in fact be destroyed (this forms an import part of Nuclear energy), but it is turned into an equivalent in energy. Likewise, energy can be turned into matter. In the Cosmere, investiture is added to these two, so there is a constant amount of energy+matter+investiture, but the ratio between these changes.
  3. Storms, the boy hadn’t been lying. Battadin stiffened in the alley as the massive form of the Caster appeared in the doorway Bart had ducked into moments before. "Lo!" The Caster’s voice thunders through the night. "Who goes there?" Battadin considered remaining hidden, but he wasn’t certain the Caster’s eyes couldn’t pierce the darkness he was using as a cloak. Instead, he stepped into the light, hands clasped in front of his Ardents robe. “Merely a seeker of truth and knowledge.” He looked around, knowing that there were other ghostbloods hidden on rooftops and in side-streets. They knew better than to form an angry mob, as doing so would attract to much attention from other watchers. The threat of a dozen ghostbloods staking out a house was real enough, of course. Battadin lifted his voice again. “Now that light has been shed on this matter, I think we can swing our interest elsewhere.” For now. He added silently. Though the boy had been proven truthfull about his association with the Caster, that didn’t mean he should not be watched, of course
  4. That's good to hear. I hope you don't mind, but I'd still like to hear this from Aman himself in some way, but this should clear up some of the confusion of the day-turn. Edit: Also, @Straw, @phattemer, @Manukos, do any of you have anything to add to the night-cycle?
  5. Below the first draft for a game idea I had is detailed. It would probably be an MR or LG. I'm still pretty new at SE, but since there are waiting queues of well over year to start running a game, I thought I might as well show this idea and get some input early.
  6. I do have one or two short things to share. Below are my thoughts on the various day-time players. Mage: Mage started posting relatively late, and mostly kept to a full annotated summary of the posts of the first day. He didn't really bring any new insights to the cycle, but that's understandable given his late entry. His summary doesn't contain anything particularly controversial. Neutral. Arinian: Arinian hasn't add too much to the cycle, though his posting of his partner's comment was interesting. I'll talk more about that later. He supported the no-lynch idea. The chance of us hitting an elim with our first lynch where incredibly small, so I see the no-lunch idea as a village idea at the moment. Arinian's few other comments also sound somewhat more village to me. Leaning slightly village Stick: I agree with Arin's partner that stick should say more of substance. One intersting thing was that stick indicated she'd tie the vote if necessary to prevent a lynch. Neutral Drake: Drake has been presenting a lot of standpoints. that he tehn subsequently backed off from. He starts by stating support for a contribution-crusade during cycle 1, handily forgetting that every person is a two-player team and that the other player could take over in case of inactivity of the first half. when Lopen calls him out, he backs off from the idea, stating agreement with Lopen. He then joins the vote on Bart, stating that unless Bart gives him a reason to not vote on him, he'll keep his vote there. A while later, he back off from Bart based on the statements by some other players. He then votes on Lopen, asking hi to explain his vote on HH. Lopen had given some explanaiton for his vote on HH and asked him several questions, some of which got answered. There are two things in Drake's posts thats stand out to me, namely his suggestion of a contribution crusade at the start, which was rightly pointed out as being a very bad idea in this game, and his vote on Lopen, for which he stated that Lopen hadn't given proper reason (which Lopen had given). Leaning elim Lopen: Lopen starts by pointing out that doing a contribution crusade in a two-headed game is a very bad idea. He later posts reactions to various other posts, most notable is a tentative agreement with arinian regarding a no-lynch. He then votes on HH, stating his statements regarding it being unlikely Bart and Len where elims, and the fact that he then subsequently brings some suspicion to Bart as reasons for his vote. Most of Lopen's posts have felt like village to me, though I'd have liked to see him respond to HH's defense. Leaning village Drought: Drought has reminded everyone that you should make use of your partner, as it gives you someone indisputable trustworthy that you can bounce ideas off. Though this is true, it's also rather obvious. I'd like to see some more from Droughtbringer next cycle. Neutral Bart: His actions have been very odd, to put it mildly. He's either speaking the truth or lying. Originally, I had him as 'neutral' if he's speaking the truth and 'elim' if he's lying, but my partner pointed out that lying about this is not something a sane elim would do, as it is a certain way to get attention from Aman, which is bad, m'kay? So I'll list him as Neutral, for now. @Amanuensis, care to shed some light here? HH: Of most note are HH's statement that it is unlikely for Bart and elenion to be elims. His quoting of statistics does hold out (it's 1-(10/11 *10/11), which is actually less than 1/5). He hasn't said anything else that was particularly alignment indicative. Neutral Sart: Given that no one called for Sart to add more to the discussion, I'm assuming his current patter of posting RP and not much else is what he always does. Neutral Elenion: Elenion starts the game by opening the discussion on the number of elims. I'm getting the feeling this discussion is a bit like SE's version of a cheesy pick-up line.Anyway, on to the rest of his posts. His defense againstbeing accused of opening with a 'forced' and 'insincere' post feels genuine to me. Forcing yourself to post and participate is certainly somewhat better than not posting at all. His comment about not all bandwagoning on Bart was also interesting, especially given his title. Overall, his comment feel ever so slightly village to me. Ever so slightly village Jondesu: Jondesu's first post was impressive, in that it looked big and meaty, while actually saying absolutely nothing. He votes on HH ad asks him a question, without actually giving his own input on the matter he wants HH's input from. He then continues to explain that he'll try to figure out who the pair-ups are, and that he won't share who his partner is, though if anyone could share theirs, that would help him figure everyone out (*wink-wink, nudge-nudge*). This is a combination of the only marginally helpful, obvious, and obviously fishing for information. One important thing to take away from that post, however, is that he thinks no one will lie about their partner, because it would be too easy to disprove. Then he switches his vote to Bart after Bart claimed aman as partner. He states that he'd hate to loose aman, but thinks bart is just trying to gain trust. In other words, he suspects Bart of dong the thing he thinks no-one will do because it would be way too easy to get called out on. Though in his favor, he does later retract that vote again. Overall, I got an elim vibe from him. His retracting of his vote speaks somewhat in his favor, but his other attempt at getting crap past the radar has gotten my attention. Leaning elim. Anyway, There's one last thing I'd like to add before signing off on this, and that's regarding posting the literal contents of a PM from your partner. I'd recommend being extremely careful with this, as it will allow people to narrow down who your partner is (For example, Arinian, me and my partner have narrowed yours down to about three possible players based on that little snippet you posted). So take that into account. either accept the risk, have your partner paraphrase your post, or put some effort into making it look like someone else wrote it.
  7. Su'gal studied his new face in the small hand-mirror. He'd had to do a bit of reconstructive work around the eye-sockets, and he was happy to see that there where no traces left that could have indicated the cause of death of his former body. He sighed. The Dougal Contract had been one of the best contracts he'd had in the past couple of centuries. Lots of autonomy, little actual work. It had almost been a sort of retirement. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond his control had brought the job to an end prematurely, and now he he needed to head back to the homeland and report on the events of the past two days. Su'gal wrapped his new cloak around him, pulling the hood over his head. He'd prefer if no one recognized him. Explaining the continued survival of the person he was impersonating would be difficult enough if he had had the time to study his history and mannerisms. As it was, all he knew was that the man had been a magister in the city, and a reasonably well regarded one at that. He kept his thoughts on such mundane matters as he walked of into the mists. He'd rather not contemplate the consequences of the father's death, yet. that would be a worry for the council. Anyway, a great, albeit extremely short, game everyone. Just out of curiosity, Aman, when you said there where some thing you'd thought you'd have picked up on as elim tells in LG30, was the fact tat I didn't seem to consider dying to an elim kill one of them? Edit: Heh, the evil doc was interesting to read. I dropped the ball a bit by trusting elenion too quickly, but I'd like to point out that at one point I correctly predicted the elim team while in the dead doc. Go-go hindsight powers!
  8. That explains it. Don't worry about it in that case.
  9. Have you guys read Edgedancer?
  10. If these are in order of picking, I'm really curious why it took you guys so long to pick "The ugly crab-lizard thing". I mean, "an ugly crab-lizard thing" is not so problematic, but "The ugly crab-lizard thing" is pretty powerful.
  11. *Checks book*. Yep, we've got a winner here.
  12. Sure. What was the first thing Shai soul-stamped after having been brought to her new room at the start of the emperor's soul?
  13. The drop-tree-things. I can't remember the proper name.
  14. Hey, signup is still open, and I've just died in LG31. I'll sign up as Battadin.
  15. No worries. If I had a good reason to believe you held Ruin, I would have asked Joe to contact you, rather than throwing it into the thread like that. You are right about Ruin being a friendly entity, of course.
  16. I'll get to the rest of the players if I'm still alive next cycle, but this is what I've gathered uptill now. Hemalurgic_Headshot: HH has posted a bit of RP and one discussion post in cycle 1. In the discussion post he talks about reasons to vote for Elenion or Phattemer. He states that he gets good reads on those voting for Len, and then votes for Phatt because he's "susceptible to bandwagons". Once someone calls him out on this, he retracts his vote and states that he is not surprised people suspect him over a bandwagon. Both his reasoning for voting on Phatt and his complaint about people suspecting him over joining a bandwagon seem odd to me, so I lean slightly elim on him. His explanation post this night does seem genuine, but it could also just be elim damage control. Straw: Straw had 1 post in the day, and none yet during this night. His feelings on the CC are not particularly alignment indicative, so I've got him as neutral for now Joe: Joe made 2 big posts reacting to some of the earlier discussion and scoring suggestions based on whether it appeared village or elim. He's also revealed that he is a Kandra (I can confirm that, btw. I'm one of the people he has contacted). The only negative comment I have on his big posts is that they are somewhat reactionary (dealing with what others have said, rather than bringing up new topics). He hasn't said anything in the PM that was particularly alignment indicative, but I lean slightly village on him. Bartimaeus: 1 post stating that he’s active, no actual activity followed. Neutral. Elenion: Elenion started of stating that he believed that a strict contribution crusade was necessary, and followed up with 2 poke votes to get people into the thread. Despite some vehement opposition to his stance, he continues defending it with mostly reasonable arguments. His Role advice seems mostly decent for non-allomantic roles, though it seems to ignore the fact that the allomantic powers had limited charges for some powers. His defense off the CC when people argued against it, rather than letting that discussion peter out, suggests to me that he believes in it, and is not trying to use it as a cover for elim-motivated votes. I do find it somewhat noteworthy that he remembered the limited allomantic charges on pewter (suggesting thugs use their power sparingly), while seeming to be fine with vote manips wasting a charge on announcing their presence, as if they had unlimited charges. I consider him Neutral for now. SilverBlade5: Hasn’t added much. Voted on mage for the crusade, then retracted it when mage became active. States he has a good read on Elelnion. I've got a Neutral read on him. Jondesu: Jondesu speaks in favor of the CC. More interestingly, he states he'll be watching Elenion after he had given role-advice, as apparently that has been used in the past to gain trust. He also explicitly reminds the town that Ruin is friendly, and that the town should support Ruin once he has been identified. This night, he has made a chart discussion his suspicion and lack of suspicion of all the players. His comments about Ruin make me wonder if he's more intimately aquainted with Ati's shard than he has let on. Overall, he has given me a slight village read. Aman: His 'short' posts are about as short as the Way of Kings . He brings up good pieces of information, and I'm pretty sure whatever scheme he uses to make and organize notes puts the little excel sheet I built to shame. The one thing of note is his comment regarding Joe. He should be familiar enough with Narrative devices to know that stating that you have an informed opinion about something, but not sharing it will immediately result in people assuming the worst. Couple that with him later saying that if he wanted to cast suspicion on Joe, he would share what he has, and it really seems like he's trying to get us all focused on Joe without actually saying anything substantial about him. This, I think, is slightly suspicious, though he has since opened up a bit more about his opinions on Joe. Overall, I think Aman is village. If I'm still alive next cycle, I'll add the rest. Now that several people have expressed suspicion at me over the comment in which I appeared certain I would survive, I think it's actually quite likely I'll survive for a couple of cycles before getting hit by either a vigilante kill or a lynch. After all, the longer I stay alive, the more suspicious I'll appear.
  17. Yeah. Luckily, you and joe have been doing a lot of good and public planning and analyzing(take note of that, people with defending roles), so I reckon my chances of survival are not too bad . Edit: Me stating that probably jinxed it. I'll see if I can't get some of my thoughts out before turnover.
  18. *Checks badge book*. I think I need one more endorsement for the "Sneaky Bastard Badge". Anyone? I'll try to get my own thoughts on the various players up sometime next cycle. I'd have liked to do it this cycle, but I've been quite busy today and there's a game with robot Dinosaurs that requires finishing this evening. If I haven't presented it by the second day of cycle 2, someone poke me and remind me.
  19. Dougal sat in a comfortable chair in his rooftop garden, smoking a pipe and thinking over the events of the day. It certainly had been more eventful than the last couple of months had been. He grimaced at the memory of Exisa’s execution. Still, the people of the Ministry had become very agitated when that band of zinc had been found on the poor noble’s body, so it hadn’t been a complete tragedy. Dougal’s thoughts turned to happier times as he reclined on his chair and stared off into the mist beyond the windows of his private garden. Because if I'm going to die this night, I'd like to do it sitting in a comfy chair. There isn't much else I can comment on right now. The loss of a metallurgist was unfortunate, but I suspect that's going to be an issue with most mis-lynches. I'm curious about the reasoning behind some of the suspicions currently being thrown around (Stick of Joe, Jondesu of me). I can understand people wanting to put these suspicions out immediately, just in case they die before putting their reasoning up. Still, I do hope they'll explain their reasoning, because it's a lot easier (if you're innocent) to defend yourself against a reasoned out suspicion than it is to defend yourself against the nebulous ire of a dead and confirmed-good noble.
  20. Maybe we disagree on what constitutes 'the exact same thing'. HH has been relatively active, though most of his posts have been RP. Maybe I've missed it, but I don't think he's ever said that he didn't vote to promote discussion. I am slightly more suspicious of HH than I was before because of his reasoning for voting on Phattemer being "I like bandwagons'. Regarding stick, I'll wait until I've gotten an answer to my question before rendering judgement, but he once again hasn't claimed to have taken a certain course of action to promote discussion, followed by a complete lack of participation in discussion from him. He hasn't been very active in the ongoing discussion yet, but at least he hasn't claimed that he was doing things to promote discussion.
  21. Why do you think that voting for someone because there are no other leads is a bad thing? I agree with you regarding using a bandwagon as an excuse, but If I have to choose between voting on someone because of a minor suspicion, or voting on someone else that I don't suspect at all I'll of course vote on the person I only have a minor suspicion of. Now, voting on someone because you have no other leads and then not hunting for other leads is a bad idea. There is probably more than one elim in this game, after all. So, on that matter: @_Stick_, what did you expect to achieve with your question regarding whether anyone had been contacted by Kandra already?
  22. My thoughts on Phattemer are that he currently is the most suspicious of a not particularly suspicious bunch, for the reasons that have been so neatly presented by Joe and Amanuensis. It's not the be-all and end-all of proof, but it's better than what I've got on most other people. Of the others, I've got some suspicions for stick, regarding his question about if anyone had been contacted by a Kandra, as there is a lot of information that can be derived if even a single person had answered that question. Most of that information would probably have been more dangerous in the hands of an elim than useful in the hands of village. I've got slight village reads on Joe, Amanuensis and Orlok, and a slight village gut-feeling on Mage and Elenion. Everyone else I consider neutral for the moment.
  23. Actually, we're still missing @Amanuensis, @Szeth Son-Son Mallano and @Ecthelion III. I suspect Amanuensis is still busy writing the novella-sized final write-up for LG30, So I'm not too bothered by the fact he hasn't posted yet. And it still hasn't been 24 hours yet, so I'm not particularly afraid the other two are going to be afk.
  24. Dougal walked through the garden on the roof of his mansion. The place had been a study, once. That was before the mansion’s previous owner had had a little run-in with a Mistborn. Suffice to say, rebuilding the room afterwards had been a necessity. The walls around the garden where made from steeply sloping panes of glass, which allowed sunlight in, but kept the ash out. It wouldn’t have done for a man of Dougal’s status to be cleaning ash away, and he’d be damned before he let one of those clumsy Skaa ruin things up here. He carefully dug away some earth next to a low plant, exposing several thick roots. With a quick cut of a small knife he cut several of the roots away, then placed them in a waiting bowl. The sap would relieve some of the pain in his joints. Then he moved on, watering some plants, harvesting others. Some had medicinal properties, like the roots he’d just harvested, though most merely made for flavourful seasoning of food, or excellent beverages could be made from them. His steward was waiting for him as he descended the stairs back into the mansion proper. Dougal exchanged the tray stacked with herbs for that morning’s post. The Terrisman looked through the contents of the tray while Dougal quickly skimmed through the post. There were reports on his various business ventures, some correspondence with family in Fadrex, and an invitation to a ball in Keep venture, two days from now. He sighed, then checked on the Steward’s work. The man had organized the different herbs and roots Dougal had harvested in orderly rows. One bowl containing some small mushrooms stood to the side. This didn’t surprise him, as it was the only herb from today’s harvest he hadn’t taught the steward about. The Terrisman offered the last bowl back to Dougal. “I assume you’ll process this yourself, my Lord?” He asked. Dougal considered for a moment, then shook his head. “Dry it for two days, then cut of the stalk. Grind the head into a fine powder. Make sure to clean your hands and workplace thoroughly afterward, and don’t breathe in any of the powder. Have it ready for me in a water-tight pouch when I leave for the Venture ball.” The Terrisman nodded his head, offering no comment on the instructions. Dougal took the letters with him to his study as he considered whether he’d need to make any other arrangements for the ball. If anyone wants to come and visit Lord Dougal, I'm sure he can make some room in his exceedingly buys schedule. Anyway, back to game-related matters. @OrlokTsubodai has raised a good point about the number of kills. If I remember correctly, the elims get 1 kill per cycle as group, and Ruin also gets 1 kill per cycle. Then there are steel mistings (Of which the elims have 1, unless Kelsier isn't in the game) and assassins. That means that, even if there are no steel misting or assassins, we must expect 2-3 kills per cycle at the least. There are some deterrents that will likely limit the amount of vigilante kills in the early game, namely the hazekiller and the limited amount of vials of steel a steel misting starts with. So, to sum up, there is one faction kill with the intent of eliminating nobles, one with the intent of eliminating Skaa and 1 specific noble, 2 active sources of vigilante kills (Steel misting and assassin) and 1 reactionary source of kills (hazekiller). I don't think we'll see any vigilante kills on cycle 1, apart from possibly Kelsiers steel, given the relatively limited knowledge of the Nobles at that point and the risk of hitting a hazekiller-protected target. It can go quickly in the latter cycles, though this also depends on how many thugs, gold ferrings, lurchers, steel ferrings and pewter ferrings we have.
  25. One way to discourage this is to pair the 'poke-vote' with a question to the person you are voting for. To demonstrate: Straw (@Straw), what is your opinion on Elenion's insistence on a strict contribution crusade? Doing it that way, you encourage more participation than just "I'm here guys, please don't lynch me". Also, Straw, as I don't think we should be doing poke-votes when the game has been going for less than 24 hours.
