  1. For characters, maybe one character per plot line? If we start up different plots, more characters might be necessary, but for now one character would be good, and would allow for more of an adventuring party/fellowship type thing. Also, if we're going to be working together, it would mean most opposition will be npcs, which means little pvp, so we could also relax power limits to some degree, since a certain level of power difference wouldn't be too disastrous for the plot. Obviously a certain degree of moderation and balancing will still be necessary to keep all characters relevant, but it's less of a deal (which is good, since designing an index for this would be a nightmare). As for world names, Jörð would be interesting too. It also kind of gives me the idea that in this world Norse (or a different Scandinavian language) might be the local version of Latin, which would be fun (in this case, we could make symbols resemble runes or Icelandic magical staves).
  2. Not sure, it's the Romanian word for earth, but I don't really speak that language and got it from google translate. According to what I can find it's pronounced something like Pah-moont though.
  3. Pământ or Erde? Sounds good, but I think it would be best if we stuck to one thread for now, unless we get a large number of participants or start creating more stories. It would be easier on the mods and other people in the sub-forum. My guess would be that they'd need to draw on the power of nearby ley lines, which would probably leave them rather limited in total power. Sure, technically you have infinite amounts of power, but you can only use a small amount at once. More power could be used, but it would require close proximity to larger ley lines or ley nodes (crossing lines, magical hot spots). So sure, you'd be able to use magic without fuel, but the amount of magic you can use at once would be really fickle and location dependent, so it would be limited, both in usability and scope.
  4. Decide on an actual plot, and make sure everyone has characters?
  5. I could probably add some Dutch names to the list as well, though I'd have to go and look up their origins first. Do you know any female German names involving plants (specifically flowers)? I'm looking for one for my character.
  6. I personally prefer Germanic as well, since I know it better. It would be good to keep in mind not all names might work that well though, since a lot of the later names came from Saints, which might be a bit weird (though we could just ignore that. I don't think most people would notice or care).
  7. So which group will we go with?
  8. There's also the issue nobody involved is Slavic as far as I know, so coming up with names could be difficult. It also depends on the character I guess, since as a trade hub people from the major cities could have any name, since there are a whole bunch of different cultures. My guess would be that either Germanic or Latin/Mediterranean names would probably work the best, since most of us will probably be at least somewhat familiar with them, and they can both fit with the whole medieval fantasy theme.
  9. Nice, thanks.
  10. Not really, it was originally intended to be attacking the DA as an example, but I felt a more generalized example would work better, and the DA also doesn't work that well as an example because they tend to (weirdly enough) hold back a lot in their responses. Your situation might have influenced me a bit though, not sure.
  11. Normally not, though if you do stupid things with them that would be extremely difficult to survive (e.g. attacking a major guild in their own HQ, trying to kill Voidus or Mac while inside the alleys, wading straight into machine-gun fire without any defensive or regeneration abilities, etc.) you'd better have a really good explanation ready for why your character made it out of that alive other than that you didn't want them to die.
  12. Can you post it? I'm interested now. I think your auto-correct did some weird stuff here?
  13. By the way, I'm assuming that for his weaknesses, you meant he underestimates his opponents, and not overestimates them?
  14. 1) I guess so? Additional opinions might be nice, but it seems logical to me. 2) That's an interesting can of worms, and something that would probably need a bit of debate. Personal opinion combined with some justifications, I'd say we'd have a bit of artistic license here and say that gender equality is a lot better than medieval Europe, and woman can have jobs too, although it would probably depend on the culture as well, with some cultures being better at this than others. Here we have the benefit of a navy trade kingdom, which means that other cultural influences (like gender equality) would spread more easily, and a lot of sailors and merchants would mean that their wives would manage finances and shops a lot, which would probably make them a lot more independent, and things like female gods would help as well. On the other hand, I think some degree of bias would still exist, and a lot of things would also depend on which job a woman has, with certain ones probably being more acceptable. 3) I don't think so. Natural magic might work though, through your character being somewhat renowned for their abilities, and gaining a supernatural ability to heal people, though I'm not sure how likely this would be for a journeyman. Another possibility would be for them to use healing herbs, which would be less effective (probably) than Ritual-based healing magic, but would require less study and be much less expensive, since you don't need Investure crystals. For this, Innate magic might help identify these herbs and their abilities, as well as (possibly) see a person's ailments. Edit: Different topic, but do we have a specific region or style in mind for local names? It would kind of make sense for people from the same region to have similarly styled names.
  15. Well, I'm one of the participants and my character was defeated a few days ago, so I think it has finished.
  16. 5 has already finished?
  17. We've got a google doc with all the information: Also, can you add this to the OP @xinoehp512? It would make it easier to find. Edit: I got bored and designed a board game (read: chess variant) that might be played in Kuria (with variations likely being played in different countries).
  18. I think that depends on the plot we're going with. The magic academy would be pretty easy, it's located in a big city and cultural center already, and most serious mages would have a reason for going there. If we're placing the plot out in the world, rumors might work. For example, stories of a dangerous monster would probably attract a few people interested in it for various reasons.
  19. It doesn't have to be gods either, spirits exist as well, and there are a number of spirits capable of taking human form, and myths like these are common for spirits as well in our world, especially if you look at more animistic religions, with Irish myth having fishermen taking Selkies for wives, an Inuit story about a man wooing a fox, in Japan Abe No Seimei (basically Japanese Merlin) had a Kitsune (fox spirit) as mother, some stories about Merlin say his father was an incubus (not sure if that counts as a spirit though), and children of nymphs in Greek myth. I'm mostly curious about what the results of this would be though, if the children would gain any powers, or an unusual appearance, or if something else would happen.
  20. True. It might be capable of it in the future though, but the author hasn't updated the github page with all the new features yet. Their Trello page shows a whole bunch of nice features like seeing temperatures and biomes, but they haven't uploaded those yet. Which makes the fact that the last modification to the github files was 5 days ago. For now, let's just say that this is a group of two continents at around the same latitude as Europa, with similar sizes. This would allow us to have an ocean climate at the coast, a Northern (Scandinavian) climate in the north, land climate in the center (especially around the mountains), and a Mediterranean climate along the southern coasts and possibly in the Kurian Bay. Completely unrelated note, in a lot of myths and stories gods and spirits have children with humans, how would that work here? I'm guessing spirits normally wouldn't be capable of something like that, but those capable of taking human form because of these stories might, and there's also the fact that if a lot of people believe someone is part-spirit, or if they believe that something like that happens a lot in a certain village, this might create the same effects for normal humans as well, even if they weren't actually part spirit in the beginning.
