Forgery and Aon Dor. I (as a self-taught programmer) am the sort of person who's willing and able to sit down and memorize rules and regulations the magic systems have, and once you've learned those the systems are incredibly versatile. Aon Dor can accomplish nearly anything another magic system can, and most of what it can't is covered by forgery. I also wouldn't consider myself especially broken, which is a requirement for most magic systems. It'd suck to get powers but need to be traumatized to use them. ETA: Not sure this should be in the 'Cosmere Theories' section, might want to move it

Theory of Realmatic Magical Mechanics in the Cosmere
Bugsy replied to Blightsong's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You don't seem to have anything about Forgery, I have a theory about how it works that I summarized in this thread Edit: So, my theory has been thoroughly debunked now . Sorry if I came off a bit sterile or critical, school was about to let out so I had to give back the computer I was borrowing at the time. This is a really great summary! One thought I have is that I've always thought that bronze is to the spiritual as tin is to the physical. Basically, bronze sort of attunes the burner to investiture on the spiritual realm (allowing them to sense investiture's flow through the same) similar to how tin attunes the burner to investiture on the physical realm (which is why tineyes can see through and compensate for the mist)- 7 replies

From the books, we know that all of the magic systems rely on investiture. We also know that in order to manipulate the cognitive aspect of an object, you need to “bribe” it with investiture. Because the cosmere is subject to the laws of thermodynamics, however, it is unlikely any object can just spontaneously change at will; instead, I propose the investiture used to “bribe” the object is actually used as a catalyst to restructure and build upon or destroy existing cognitive components. In this case, the more investiture one has, the greater changes they can accomplish because they are providing more energy by which the change can take place We also know that drawing investiture from or through someone usually results in some sort of physical sensation. For example, a radiant conducting stormlight feels invigorated, while an allomancer feels a burning sensation in their stomach. In these cases, only those who can act as a channel for the investiture due to a ‘broken’ spiritual aspect can use it. Where does the system of Forgery fall into this? There is no visible source of investiture, nor is there any sensation in the artist. Anyone can be a forger as well, so no broken soul is required. The Dor cannot be the source, as due to its uncontrolled nature, it would need a strong conduit and would still appear to physical senses solely from its sheer power. The stamp itself is unlikely to be the source of investiture in my opinion because it can be crafted of nearly any substance. On top of that, certain types of materials are praised only for their ability to be shaped, and not for their ability to maintain a Forgery. The stamp also doesn't degrade upon application, which it logically would if the magic drew upon the material’s inherent investiture. The only other constant of Forgery is the ink used. This ink, according to TES, must be fresh and organic, and animal ink works better than that of plants (14%). This means that not only do animals and plants contain investiture, it is not solely contained within the body of the organism but rather all of its organic byproducts. This is supported by the fact that when the bloodsealer makes a stamp to activate the lifeless, he uses Shai’s blood as ink, and she feels a painful sensation in the previous location of the wound, which would be the sensation felt by the source of investiture in this case. The reanimation of lifeforms is also a much greater forgery and would therefore require a greater source of investiture than ordinary forgeries, namely that of a human’s investiture, which is logically high to produce sentience. This biological investiture would likely be related to, or possibly even the same as, the investiture that grants life and sentience. I also feel it is likely that it’s exuded into the world around the person. It is likely exuded mainly on a cognitive level, attaching to preexisting cognitive aspects of objects, building upon or altering them, which would explain why conscious thought could alter the cognitive, and why it takes time for an object to establish a cognitive view of itself as a whole. I’d love to hear any feedback on this idea!

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

I'm actually pretty happy about that. It either means he's lengthening the book, thickening the plot, or already revising. Any one of those will be a positive later, because they mean the content will increase, quality will improve, or revising speed will increase. If, alternately, he made a continuity error, it's best that he caught it now, instead of later building of it and having to replace it and all of its references later. -
I'll sign up as Akiyama. Originally an upper-class mogul directly decended from an ancient shogun, Akiyama slowly gambled away much of his fortune through risky investments, ultimately pouring over 300 million yen into what turned out to be a Ponzi scheme. With his company tettering on the brink of collapse, Akiyama has turned to less... savory forms of business, hoping to regain his original wealth. Not that he's done anything flat-out illegal, of course. Well, mostly not...

Whoops, let me just fix that real quick... I'm so used to nobles and government being synonymous that I wrote the wrong one accidentally. Thanks for the catch!

Wait, has this happened yet? If so, it seems like it'd be really useful, how exactly does one do these things?

That was incredibly beautiful and touching. Thank you for having risked that little piece of yourself that you put out there each and every time you bare your soul of express your world as you see it. As an agnostic/atheist, I interpret most religion as an elaborate metaphorical expression of the followers self and values, and I enjoy learning religions largely in part to experience the beauty of mankind's efforts to understand the universe itself. I am honored to have read this and most definitely consider it one of the most beautifully simplistic yet expressive interpretations of life I've yet encountered. Thank you for having shared this, and know I don't give that praise lightly

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Bugsy replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When.... Well, no real way to phrase this concisely, so I'll break standard format and just tell the story We're doing a persuasive essay on GMOs in my Language arts class, and today we had to do an impromptu debate to make sure we had actually done research the night before like she asked. I was in the middle of talking and for some reason (Freudian Slip?) I mentioned that you could "invest one organism with the genetic information of another to produce a variety of beneficial effects". Needless to say, most of the class was confused. -
Urteau’s purge Unnecessarily long introduction (cuz I got bored ) TL;DR: Quellion, under the influence of Ruin, has seized control of Utreau and is now moving to exterminate or convert the noble blooded in the city. The skaa are facing persecution and curfews, and themselves want to flush out the nobles, having misinterpreted the teachings of Kelsier. As such, this game has 3 factions: Government, Skaa, and Noble Blooded. Factions/win conditions: Format: Allomancy: I'd gladly accept any feedback on the idea or the writeup

In WoR, he refers to the bondsmith in chapter 44's prelude. The specific quote is This use of the singular "was" leads me to believe they were all bonded to a single spren. This is further supported by the fact that encouraging them to grow was seen as seditious, and was therefore discouraged. I don't see why if one applied to Odium, the enemy, there would be concern over being seditious towards him

An Obligator shuffled through misty night, weighted down by a heavy trenchcoat favored by the locals. He was of the Canton of Inquisition, although you couldn't tell by looking at him. Lacking the distinctive eye tattoos of an Obligator, he was part of a covert group tasked with infiltration and allomancer detection in the far reaches of the Empire. His canton had recently received an anonymous tip on the presence of skaa mistings in one of the most remote locations of the Empire, a small, out of the way town located in the Eastern Dominance. He and his team were tasked with finding and capturing the allomancers. They had decided to begin with assimilating into the local underground, since the majority of information was to be had there, and it usually had a relatively high concentration of Allomancers. His job was bound to be hard; the people here were notoriously difficult to communicate with, and he'd have to make sure to avoid looking out of place. Still, he couldn't complain much. For this job, he'd been given a seeker full-time, and access to the services of an inquisitor who happened to be nearby. He grimaced slightly, thinking of the carnage that would undoubtedly accompany one of those inhuman creatures. They were good tools, ones he could not afford to lose, but even after working in close proximity with them all these years, they were no less disturbing. He continued to shuffle down the street, which was known territory of one of the local gangs, until at last a figure, barely visible through the mist, called out, “Ising the doing the what of the here?” The Obligator sighed as he mentally decoded the broken sentence. “Ising the wanting of joining the gang” he replied, hoping he had phrased the response correctly. The figure resolved itself into a man, who motioned for him to follow, then moved down the street into the darkness. The Obligator forced his tired legs into motion as he followed the figure of the man, forcing himself to travel quickly so as to not lose him in the mists. This is going to be a long night Basic Mechanics: Win conditions: Allomancy:

Food/Water: Perhaps make it so you have a chance to get 1-3 water and food from each source so there's more action? Also, the backpack seems a bit OP, as it could easily cause other players to die as a side effect. Maybe make it a percent chance or make it so it can only steal from someone with multiple food? Also, a potential action could be "set a snare", and it has a guaranteed chance of getting food, but can do so over a period of 1-4 days. Another idea is that you'd have a 50% chance of dying on a cycle without food/water, but a 100% chance when you lack both Other: There's little motive for posting in the thread. Not sure what could fix this Possible action of attempting a kill? (50% success, 25% fail, 25% backfire)

When you write a multi-page essay on why Mistborn is a classic for your English class Edit: true story. We had to write a persuasive essay on what should be considered a classic after we spent a unit reading Shakespeare, etc. I chose Mistborn and got an A
