    Fruit, sugar, pectin, and water, actually. Strawberries don’t have their own pectin, so the gelling agent probably came from a lemon or orange jam. Citron Jam is also very good for it. So to soulcast strawberry jam Jasnah would have had to soulcast two kinds of jam since most jams actually contain a second jam as an essential ingredient. Yes, I make my own jams.

    After a few minutes Eryn decided that Zola’s hair was as clean as it would get. It was still knottier than she’d like, but she’d rather work on that slowly. No need to torture the child. “All done,” she said cheerfully. “Towel is there,” she pointed, “and clothing. Tomorrow we buy you new. I go now, and you dry and dress.” So saying, she left the room.

    Eryn nodded. “Shut eyes and tilt head back. This way no soap in eyes.” She began rinsing Eryn’s hair, soap, conditioning oils and dirt washing away under the water’s flow.

    Eryn nodded. “Almost.” She pulled out the plug again, the restarted the tap. “I rinse hair now.”

    Eryn smiled as she continued to brush. “And that is why we avoid, ja?” The Survivor winked, pointed a scarred finger upwards, and then seemed to vanish, leaving only misty trails to indicate that he had ever been present.

    Eryn smiled as she entered the room. “Oh no,” she said, pretending to be worried. “Where is my Zola? She disappeared. Maybe she jump out window?” She went to the tiny window and pretended to search the street below.
