Sunbird perks up at the mention of steak. "You mean like when a woman goes to a restaurant with someone of the male gender--doesn't matter if it's her boyfriend, father, brother, or what--and she orders a steak and he orders, like, a pasta dish, and when the food comes out the waiter just assumes that the steak must be for the man? That's totally awkward." She shudders and adds in a whisper, "That's why I usually go to dinner alone."

Yeah, seems like the same thing is happening in America, at least if you judge political engagement by voter turnout. If you judge it by the vitriol of political arguments on the Internet, on the other hand, America is VERY politically engaged.

Is everyone going to die of suspense this weekend then?

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Apparently the Stadium of Fire celebration is happening tonight instead of on the 4th, so I've been listening to fighter jets flying over and fireworks exploding all evening. -

The only time I can think of when foot fungus would be interesting is if you're talking about a mushroom that grew in the shape of a foot.

I can do next week as long as it's not on Friday the 8th. (I assume nobody wants to do it on Independence Day, right?) @little wilson, @Slowswift, what do you think?
-
People who want to tell me stories about their foot fungus while I'm eating. Seriously? No. Just... no.

This actually already exists. FeatherWriter made some Cosmere-themed CAH cards, which can be found in this year-old thread.

Finished re-reading Alcatraz #1 today. I actually noticed several Cosmere-related Easter eggs this time around--ones that I missed in my first read back in 2011 because I had not, at that point, read any other Sanderson books. Plus I found a not-so-subtle jab at Harry Potter. I've also made it about halfway through Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch, daughter of author Richard Paul Evans. Enjoying it so far, but I'm kind of annoyed at the MC, Lina, for crushing on Thomas just because he's handsome when Ren clearly is much better boyfriend material.

Congrats on your mission, Stormgate! My brother is leaving for his mission exactly a week after you are; he'll be serving over in Europe. (His mission is in the area that used to be known as Yugoslavia and includes the countries Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Slovakia.) Will you be in an English-speaking mission, or Spanish or something else?

I second @little wilson's motion!! I've never played Cards Against Humanity, but I've heard it's hilarious, so I imagine a Cosmere version would be even better.

Probably the best solution. I ended up just cooking all of them so I could get rid of the bag until I buy more.

Hm. Ten romantic leads... Does that mean the story they're from has to be primarily a romance? Or can they just be a love interest in other genres of stories?

Ok, I'm looking for some opinions. I earned a $3 Kindle credit on Amazon recently, and I'm trying to decide between two books that currently cost $2.99 each on Kindle: Black Spark by Al K Line or Wrong Side of Hell by Sonya Bateman. Does anyone have anything to say for or against either book?

Oh lol. Titles beginning with numbers would definitely be harder... I might be able to do it if titles containing the numbers are allowed and they don't have to be the first word.

There is indeed! Claincy's post (4th from the top) in this thread lists all the ranks and how many upvotes you need to reach each one. Also, upvote for your lol-worthy member title.

Ok, this is kind of random, but who cares? It IS the "Random Stuff" thread... @TwiLyghtSansSparkles, seeing you use the word "enamored" reminded me of my weird habit of using the spellings "enamoured" and "glamour" even though I'm American, grew up in America, learned to spell the American way, and American English generally uses the "or" spellings over the "our" spellings. I also prefer "judgement" over "judgment"--got that one wrong in a spelling bee once because I included the first E.

Ok, my annoyances for today all come from cooking dinner tonight. 1. The faucet in my kitchen sink. It's the kind where you lift a lever to get the water going and move it left or right to adjust the temperature. Well, whenever I turn the water on, I'll lift the lever enough to get it going the speed I want, but as soon as I take my hand off the lever, it flops down and slows down the waterflow like A LOT. And when I turn the water off, it keeps dripping and wasting water. 2. I keep a bag of quick-prep gyoza (Japanese pot stickers) in the freezer, and I can fit about 8 or 9 of them into my frying pan at once, which is about the right amount of food for me. Well, when I opened the bag tonight, there were 11 gyoza left. So my options were 1) cook 8 and have only 3 left next time I want gyoza, or 2) cook as many as I can fit in the pan, eat them, and cook the rest and eat them too--annoying because it means I have to clean out the pan between batches. 3. Cleaning out the frypan after making gyoza. I always use nonstick spray and oil to try to prevent them from sticking to the pan, but most of the time it doesn't work and they leave chunks of dough on the pan that are a nightmare to scrape off.

First of all, @Delightful, applause for you! I'm an English language major and I would have had a hard time coming up with that many words with no vowels! Second of all, @Jondesu: This is my kind of challenge! All the Paths of Shadow (book) Blood Ties (book--actually there are several books with this title) City of Bones (book and movie) Die For Me (book) Ensnared (book) Frindle (book) Grave Peril (book) Holes (book and movie) Inkheart (book and movie) Juno (movie) In the same vein as Daniyah's question... WLIU name ten words that can be made by using the letters in the name Brandon Sanderson.

I finally got around to watching the season 3 finale. It was amazing, but Lincoln's death broke my heart. I really liked him, and I was completely bawling during the last few minutes of the episode. Brett Dalton is an amazing actor, and I'm sad that we won't be seeing him again. I thought he made a fantastic badchull villain as Hive with that long black trench-coat and his unflappable demeanor.

On the subject of doing badly on tests because of not studying--I totally feel you. I succeeded easily pretty much until I graduated high school; in general, I could learn things once and remember them without having to go back and study. Enter college. Suddenly they're trying to cram much more unfamiliar information into my brain than before, and said info is more complicated, and I'm juggling a job with finding time to actually go take the tests outside of class time in the testing center, and it's just crazy. So it's not a unique problem or proof of you being a failure, DreamEternal.
