Have now made it more than halfway through The Last American Vampire, the sequel I mentioned above. I'm not enjoying it quite as much as the first one, but it's still quite good.

"Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid as covered, a cappella, by Peter Hollens.

Finally finished up Agents of SHIELD season 3 and have been working on catching up on Gotham. One episode left in this season now.

That's rather depressing... Maybe this list of funny Wifi network names I've seen around my city will lighten the mood a bit: Nighthawk Not Your Wifi Eyjafjallajokull (yes, I can spell that without looking it up, thanks to its highly publicized eruption a few years ago) Are Belong To Us LG Smart Refrigerator

Nutella is FOOD OF THE GODS. That must be why it's more expensive than peanut butter (which comes in a close second IMO). -
Self-flushing toilets. They always seem to flush at the most inconvenient times! Putting the cap on my water bottle and attempting to open it an hour later only to find that it is inexplicably screwed on like 10 times tighter than when I closed it.

@Delightful Possibly. I don't listen to Writing Excuses regularly, but the title is Extreme Makeover and it has a GoodReads page. He did a reading from it at a panel I attended at Salt Lake Comic Con in which we got to listen to characters freak out who'd been exposed to hand lotion that rewrites your DNA and turns you into someone else.

The food issue occurred to me; the meeting-place issue did not. If we end up with 25 people and everybody wants pizza...That's a lot of pizza. Assuming 8 slices per pizza and 2 slices per person, that's 50 slices or 6.25 pizzas. If we end up not being able to use the atrium once the semester starts, we might be able to gather at a table (or a few tables) in the Wilk--you know, in that big open area next to the Cougareat, with the piano? There's plenty of space in the library too, but they won't let you bring pizza in there.

Exactly!

@Chandrian the only story I can think ofthat even remotely resembles your description is something that Dan Wells hasn't even published yet, and instead of cake starting the problems it's hand lotion.

@TwiLyghtSansSparkles at this point I think the Messy Mondays video about movie cliches is highly relevant.

@Emerald101 uh...wow. That's a lot of people. We generally get together once a month and just had our July meeting on the 5th, so chances are it'll be August before we do anything else.@little wilson, @slowswift, what are your feelings on getting together with such a large group?

@ScottLeft thanks for clarifying. Update: finished reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter today and thought it was totally awesome. (I'm now thinking that I might want to watch the movie as well.) I was also very pleased to discover that there is a second book. :D

Oh, we're talking about driving now? Allow me to share a tale of sheer idiocy in Utah, USA: So I pulled up to a red traffic light yesterday. I was the front person in the right lane of a road that had two regular lanes to go straight through the intersection plus one lane only for people turning left. The light turns to a green left arrow. So what should happen next is basically like this diagram (only the yellow and black cars are relevant): At least, it would be if Utah drivers had any common sense or knowledge of American traffic laws... The people in the straight-through lane beside me (a train of like 5 cars!) just bulled their way through the intersection, heedless of the fact that it was not their turn and the left-turners on the other side would have been completely justified if they had run them over.

Halp a clueless Sharder out--what does MS&T stand for? I did a Google search and the only semi-relevant thing that turned up was Mystery Science Theater, but that's a TV show...?

#1043 is up! That last panel... XD

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Sunbird replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Anyone who loves kittens has a place in my heart. But seriously, most days of the week I spend 20-30 uninterrupted minutes around dinnertime cuddling my grandparents' only kitten, Happy (though they have 10 other adult cats). At this point, I'm his favorite person in the house by such a far margin it might be more accurate to call him my kitten. When I move out, I really hope I can find a place to live where having a cat is okay, because I want to take him with me. -

I'm so glad to hear this!! People have a lot of opinions about the fastest way to a man's or a woman's heart, but the fastest way to this woman's heart *points to self* is kittens. -
Welcome to the first weekly book review by Sharders, for Sharders! Come here to read critiques and discuss what everyone's reading this week. (To write your own review and contribute to this great community, Sign up here!) Applause goes to The Young Bard for organizing this group. To get the ball rolling, I'll share my review of The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa, originally written a few years ago after I read the book the second time. And, if you've already read The Immortal Rules, you might be interested in my reviews of books 2 and 3 in the Blood of Eden trilogy, The Eternity Cure and The Forever Song. (SPOILER WARNING: My reviews of books 2 and 3 contain spoilers for previous books in the series.)

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When the undisputed highlight of your day is playing Cards Against the Cosmere with 7 other Sanderfans at BYU Cosmere Club. Also when your phone's autocorrect has learned the words Cosmere and Sanderfan. -
Just wait until you get to the episode "Tabula Rasa" (in season 6, I think). Much funny! Also, how many TV shows include an episode called "Tabula Rasa"? I remember one on Stargate: Atlantis, and I have a feeling the "everybody loses their memory for an episode" schtick is pretty popular.

After I saw this post I just sat here for a few minutes, perplexed because I was sure I had never heard of a food called Challah, yet the sound of the word was familiar for some reason... Then I realized that chala is Kitai's term of endearment for Tavi in Jim Butcher's Codex Alera books. My brain is weird. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Sunbird replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I think this is a large problem in American politics in general. Most people who have an opinion on political issues take a stance at one end of the spectrum of possible options, think anyone who holds the opposite position is the Antichrist, and refuse to compromise AT ALL. It's not just a problem with the gun control issue but with many other issues as well. -

Bleh. I bought some nectarines a few days ago and today 2 of the 3 that I had left were mushy and not fit to eat. -
@Speck and @Mailliw73, we always meet at 7pm in the atrium of the JFSB (Joseph F Smith building) on BYU campus. The next meeting is today, and although it's not always on a Tuesday, we stick to weekdays. Last month we ended up moving from the atrium to a different area of the building because EFY was having a really loud party in the courtyard, but if we move we'll post about it here.
