You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Wait wait, you wouldn't happen to have the same calc teacher as @Glamdring804, would you? When this happens more than once in the same semester: -

@mattig89ch My chili recipe can go in the fridge or freezer pretty easily, and it makes several servings, so if you like chili I'd be happy to share the recipe with you. I've also discovered that Pasta Roni mixes are easy to reheat once they're made. One box makes 2 or 3 servings. You can do the same with a box of Kraft mac-n-cheese. My grandma's recipe for New England clam chowder is tasty when reheated as well.(And that one makes a big pot that can feed one person for several days or longer if you're not eating it every day.) In fact I bet any kind of canned soup you find in the grocery store would work just fine as long as you don't stick the metal can in the microwave. Another option is a brown-bag type lunch that doesn't require cooking or microwaving: a sandwich (I favor Smucker's Uncrustable PBJ sandwiches), individually bagged chips, pretzels, nuts, an apple/banana/orange, a cup of yogurt or applesauce, a granola bar... There are lots of options.

@Brightness Enna Haha cool. My ward had a Halloween party last night, and I went as the 10th Doctor. I was disappointed by how few people recognized my costume. -
What WW said. I've been to a few signings where places in the signing line have been reserved for people who purchased the featured book from the hosting bookstore. So yeah, check with the venue to make sure.

@Brightness Enna ROFL! That's fantastic! What was his drink, did you notice? Not beer like the original meme, obviously. I've seen Mormonized versions of the meme with a bottle of Sprite Photoshopped in. -
Wow, this thread sure came back to life! Re: onions, I Googled tips for how to avoid the tearfest after I made chili myself for the first time and have now taken to cutting off the ends of the onion and soaking it in water while I prepare other ingredients, leaving the onion until last. Then I use a sharp knife and do the chopping as fast as I safely can, dump it in the pot and close the lid, and immediately rinse off the knife and cutting board. Usually that's been pretty effective; it was just worse this time for some reason. @TwiLyghtSansSparkles I am guilty of owning a bottle of minced garlic, but I have a good reason! I don't use garlic very often and the only recipes I make that use it only call for a single clove, so if I bought a whole bulb most of it would go to waste. With the bottle, though, I can store the extra and have it on hand for next time.

@TwiLyghtSansSparkles, I just about died laughing at those Walking Dead videos. XD
-
Awesome, thanks! I will write that down for next time I need to cook with onions.
-
Ooh, that sounds like a good idea. Do you have to thaw them or soak them in water or anything before they're ready to cook with?
-
I made a big pot of chili con carne the other night. Turned out pretty great, even if I forgot to blender the tomatoes to get rid of the chunks. The worst part is always chopping the onion; I had to stop about 2/3 the way through to take a break because my eyes were starting to sting.

@ShadowLord_Lith XD It's just an empty can, right? Reminds me of the "dihydrogen monoxide" health warnings. In other news, I feel intelligent today:

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

No guarantees about that, if past TV/film adaptations of books/comics are anything to judge by. -
Oh, storms. I didn't make this one up, but it's too good not to share. Edited to add: if you don't get this pun, I pity your inadequate education in classic rock music and insist that you watch this video:

I watched this video last night and had an interesting dream afterwards: For some reason I was at some sort of dinner with Benedict Cumberbatch and several other guests (don't remember who they all were). He was in his Doctor Strange costume, and we ended up sitting across the table from each other. I was fangirl-squeeing internally but managed to stay outwardly calm enough to have a conversation, though I have no idea now what we actually talked about. All I really remember is that I addressed him by his first name, like we were good friends. o_0

My copy of Heart and Brain: Gut Instincts arrived today, and I immediately read the entire thing. Absolutely hilarious!

Hehe. Speaking of Secretary Birds, there's a funny video you should see. The bird is totally puzzled. XD

Watched the first Underworld movie on VidAngel tonight and enjoyed it a lot. *adds the rest of the movies to watchlist*

That's simultaneously awful and hilarious. XD Q: Why do Sam and Dean always beat the bad guy? A: Because they're the WIN-chester brothers, not the LOSE-chesters.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

Just this morning I took a test that included a question that was basically just "Here, convert this weight measurement from pounds to kg and this temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius." That question was a piece of cake for me, since I've long since memorized the conversion formulas and had a pencil and paper to work out the math. -
I think the most important thing to consider will be, Can you march in Costume X? You don't want to go, for example, as a vampire with a floor-length gown and long, inconvenient flowy sleeves. Also important: what has the weather been like lately in your area? Marching is hard work, so if the weather's been warm lately you probably want a costume that won't bake you alive. (On the other hand, football games happen largely after the sun has gone down, so you might want something warmer for the portion of the game where you're not on the field marching.) If you are looking for Sanderson costume ideas, you could probably go as a Mistborn, provided your mistcloak is short enough not to get underfoot. You'd also be able to adjust for temperature; I've seen Mistborn costumes that include a waistcoat or vest and others that just use an old-fashioned, sort of Renaissance-style blouse up top (worn by women, obviously). Remind me again what instrument you play in the band? It's not mellophone, is it? You might be able to put together a punny costume based on your instrument.

I had a couple of "wait, what?" moments today: 1. During my walk to the bus stop this morning, my sock somehow managed to wriggle its way more than halfway off my foot. I'd only walked one block and was wearing tennis shoes. O_o 2. I made shell pasta for dinner tonight out of a box. When I went to dump the shell noodles in the pot, a bunch of them stuck to the inside of the box. ??

@Jondesu That's totally a pun. And a good one too! What's Superman's favorite vegetable? Kal-el-flower.

@Cognizantastic That was very entertaining. Shakespeare sees himself as a meme, and potatoes on pizza?? XD I noticed that sometimes in the story, it sounded like you were unsure whether to use "thee" or "thou" for Shakespeare's dialogue. I was fortunate enough to get a crash course in how to use them during a college Shakespeare course I took recently, so I'm happy to answer questions if you have them. @TwiLyghtSansSparkles BRUCE IS SO ADORABLE. <3 I love how excited he got as soon as you mentioned the dog park! He obviously understands at least that much English.
