  1. @Mestiv Wikipedia says root beer's dominant flavor is sassafras. Dunno if that helps describe the taste to you at all. XD But it's one of my favorite sodas/soft drinks, after red creme soda and grape soda.
  2. @StrikerEZ That IS a travesty! Does your library have ebooks available for checkout through Overdrive? That's how I borrowed the copy I read.
  3. "There's too much at stake now to start worrying about little things like being brutally murdered."
  4. I saw this recently and it cracked me up. The hawk is totally unperturbed that this mockingbird is basically performing aerial headbutts on him. XD
  5. Raoden, IMO. His time managing the Elantrians before the AonDor was fixed would, I think, give him good experience with food prep, more so than Kelsier's background of swindling nobles. Who would have a harder time fitting into Vorin society, Wayne or MeLaan?
  6. See, now this is a really interesting question. On the one hand, I think Dalinar is far more likely to actually rob graves because of his "do what you must for the good of Alethkar" mentality. On the other hand, if they're both going to be robbing graves regardless, IMO Elend is far more likely to get caught doing it. Who would be more likely to cry during a chick flick, MeLaan or Vin?
  7. For having probably the most random yet awesome username on the Shard.
  8. How are authors supposed to do plot twists without "lying" to readers, then??
  9. Kaladin. He at least has the sass for a verbal throwdown with Shallan. Who would be more likely to win the Great British Bake-off, Wayne or TenSoon?
  10. For always getting you mixed up with Amanuensis in my head. (Sorry!)
  11. I also had to get used to that one when I read The Great Gatsby for the first time in school. But Bew-cannon is apparently the commonly accepted way of saying it. I have a hard time with names that start with the prefix Mc- and then are followed by a vowel, like McIntyre or McElroy. I always want to de-emphasize the Mc- and put the emphasis on the second syllable, but then it turns out you're supposed to say it MACK-in-tire or MACK-ull-roy.
  12. I just finished reading The Dire King by William Ritter today. (4th and final book in the Jackaby series)
  13. Obviously people don't really have control over their last names or the pronunciation, but it's stupid to get mad about someone saying it wrong when the "correct" pronunciation is not intuitive. Related side note: I wonder if the teacher's name Goos has German origins--In German, double O's are pronounced like the vowel in "boat" instead of like in "boot." Words and names borrowed from foreign languages certainly complicate the game of guessing how you're supposed to say them... I think that is sometimes the cause, but I also think many parents are trying too hard to make their kid's name stand out and be "unique."
  14. @Calderis Definitely. Summon the mods! @Kaymyth Can you relocate this topic? (Apologies for not using the Report button, but I can't find it on mobile.)
  15. LOL, not quite a "going away" party, but more like a "good riddance" party?
  16. Ah, I was thinking you were going to reference the fact that a group of baboons is called a congress.
  17. @Slowswift I think I may know what joke you're thinking of. Does it also have to do with collective nouns for animals?
  18. Szeth's spirit animal.
  19. Now I have to go listen to "The Sound of Silence" just so I can sing these lyrics along with the music. XD
  20. We'd love to have you! In case you haven't read through the entire thread to find the meeting time and place (and I don't blame you if you haven't), whichever day we end up meeting, we'll gather in the Cougareat at 7pm. =)
  21. This is one of my favorite fun facts about the English language.
  22. I'm wondering if you staged it to look exactly like your previous profile pic, minus the hoodie.
  23. Sorry to hear that! Have some birthday memes?
  24. Well, I don't have any evening classes this semester, but Thursdays will usually be less convenient than other weekdays, most likely. For me, at least. Let's not meet on Labor Day either.
