The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Sunbird replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That is a huge milestone and I'm so happy for you! -
@Shqueeves I'm kinda jealous of your tree's beautiful fall colors! Most trees I've seen in Utah County so far are just yellow. EDIT: More pictures from Saturday! Jumping spider close-ups. Not for arachnophobes! (5 photos)

The leaves in Utah are starting to turn fiery colors, and I love it. Photos taken today. (5 under the spoiler)

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it is inconsiderate for parents/grandparents to take their children to a movie theater and then do nothing to prevent said children from wiping their snot on the armrests and disturbing the rest of the audience with their sniffling. Completely ruined my experience at the theater tonight. -
Have any of you ever read a novel where the story is told in third-person present tense? Today I started reading a Kindle freebie that does that, and it feels utterly bizarre.

I found a cool moth today! After taking photos and doing a little research on Google, I figured out that it's a Painted Tiger Moth. (5 photos)

Avatar. Aang, The last air bender. What 'bender' are you?
Sunbird replied to Darkness Ascendant's topic in General Discussion
I'd probably choose firebending. It can't be taken away as easily as water or earth, and lightning would be so awesome!! -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Sunbird replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you're closing tabs to minimize distraction while you do homework, and you close Facebook but keep the Shard open. -
Screenshots or it didn't happen!

A koloss. They at least have some concept of money, but a greatshell (particularly a chasmfiend) would probably just end up smashing your house and possibly eating you. Who would make a better air traffic controller, Straff Venture or Denth?
-
Personally I love the experience of reading and rereading Brandon's books with Cosmere knowledge. Even if I'm not nearly as hardcore with theorizing as many Sharders, I thoroughly enjoy finding the Easter eggs like Hoid's cameos and so on.

@Darkness Ascendant Now picturing you saying "I'M DARKNESS" like Christian Bale's Batman. -
@Extesian LOL, I'm not really even surprised. Getting nice pictures of a mantis who is content to sit in one place and groom herself is much easier than getting nice pictures of birds that are flying around all the time.
-
I found a praying mantis on Monday. Photos in the spoiler in case anyone here has a phobia of large bugs. (7 pictures)

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When your coworker advises the team to make a unified Dropbox folder for shared projects and all you can think of is UNITE THEM. -
Some of my favorite fantasy by female authors, in no particular order: Anything, really, by Cinda Williams Chima Rachel Aaron (the Eli Monpress series is epic fantasy, and "Nice Dragons Finish Last" is more urban fantasy/dystopia) "This Savage Song" or "A Darker Shade of Magic" by Victoria Schwab (she also publishes under the name V.E. Schwab) Naomi Novik, as previously mentioned Julie Kagawa (try "Talon" if you like dragons or "The Immortal Rules" if you prefer vampires) "Falling Kingdoms" by Morgan Rhodes "Die for Me" by Amy Plum

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

You know you're a Sanderfan when you see a Polynesian man in a skirtlike piece of clothing and your brain automatically labels it a takama before you remember those only exist on Roshar. -

@Ammanas I don't remember seeing him, but it's possible I passed him during one of my stops by the various author booths. Thanks for the recommendation; I'll look up his books.
