  1. Wait which Lopen there are two of them Anyways, I'm going to go sleep now. But first, I vote. Randomly, I get an odd vibe from Elandera, but I refuse to vote them on the first day because the last game I remember with them they got lynched on the first day. I could also vote Araris for making it necessary for me to vote (there's a certain irony to that), but I have a strict policy of not casting retaliatory votes unless I have a credible suspicion against that person which is unrelated to their vote against me. Xinoehp you poked a player for being in the last two players to post, when you yourself are in the last three players to post. Consider yourself poked for your unusual poking behavior. Not really a great reason, but I'm afraid I'm fresh out of great reasons. They should be in stock tomorrow morning though. 'night.
  2. Raw investiture can in some cases become sapient. In the case of type IV awakened entities, a consciousness is formed around a single command phrase. In the case of Roshar's radiant spren, a consciousness is formed around a set of spoken oaths. It is noteworthy that in both cases, the consciousness had to form around some kind of starting point, a guiding principle. I would guess that what happens with shards and vessels is basically the same thing, just on a larger scale. For a shard, the starting point is a human being. This is probably because humans are complex enough that they can be strongly connected to a shardic intent. If theoretically an animal was more strongly connected to a particular shard's intent (unlikely, but maybe possible), they should be able to ascend to hold a shard. From the evidence that a much smaller amount of investiture can create relatively intelligent and sapient beings like Nightblood and Sylphrena, I conclude that the shard would probably form a very intelligent and human-like consciousness from the animal's mind. Calderis already suggested that the result would still more or less be governed by the basic structure of an animal's brain. This is quite possible. The other major possibility though is that the shardic intent wins out, possibly used to fill in the gaps to create the consciousness, and the intelligence guiding the shard is already significantly warped by the shard's intent from day 1.
  3. This is pretty much just a weird thought that crossed my mind. But in South Scadrial they have magitek that can mimic the metallic arts. So what if you created a pair of nicroburst components set up to nicroburst each other? I imagine it would make a feedback loop, building up an insanely massive enhancement effect. If you then used this to enhance another allomantic power, say, an omnidirectional steelpush outwards... The result would probably be pretty dramatic.
  4. And now I have a mental image of Epoch kicking back and watching minor epics fight it out in a big stadium, fast-forwarding the matches he finds boring and watching especially entertaining ones in slow-motion. The river seems like a fairly natural boundary, also. For various factions, these are a good way to go. I also advise however that people who have their own ideas for a faction create one, like what bladestorm did with Orbit. And then there are also factions of peoples from out of town, but I imagine that those coalitions forming will be part of what goes on in our RP I actually really really like this idea for some reason. Also, for the visuals of Epoch's power... Not many visual effects you can use for something this abstract, but: What if slow zones made colors appear more dull, tending towards monochrome, and fast zones made colors appear more bright and exaggerated? Just saw Voidus' suggestion, and I also quite like the tunnel vision idea. If people think that works, lets go with that. Slow zones would also usually have wire fences around them in most places, to make sure people don't walk into them accidentally. Also, I had a couple more ideas for interesting power sets. I have really too many of those. If anybody wants to take one off my hands let me know, otherwise I'll just keep them in reserves and tell myself that if I ever have a good way to kill off one of my characters, I will already have a new character to write for ready to step in. But in any case, I threw them all in my character post. One of the characters might possibly be responsible for a landmark of sorts in our new Edmonton, if people want to acknowledge them as part of the RP. I remember somebody a little while back said something about a dangerous epic being trapped in a slow zone with the potential to get free eventually, and this character is more or less expanded off that concept.
  5. Agreed. If the sectors aren't under all one leadership, it won't be broken cleanly into distinct sectors. Yeah, I like the memory interference thing. The mist thing was originally paired with the memory power, and I think you should go with that if you want to. If you don't want to, I can make mist a thing for time dilation. But if you do, and people want a stronger visual for time dilation, I can think of something else.
  6. That sounds about right, although we should give more time for people to come online and comment on some of that. How about the mists are just either red for slow or purple for fast, and the degree of slow/fast was determined by the thickness of the mists?
  7. I'm not against removing the lighting effects, the main reason I didn't handwave them away already is because before people were thinking about mists it was the only visual cue the time zones could have.
  8. PM me and we can swap roles real quick Come on, you know you want to
  9. Well, if you are in a slow zone, you are potentially experiencing multiple days worth of sunlight in the timeframe of a few seconds. Which is enough that it could honestly give you eye damage if you weren't protected against that sort of thing. If not literaly burns on your skin. For a really slow zone, you might want to try passing through in a car or something to shield from all the light. The light was also useful as a visual cue for being slowed down or sped up. If the sky just got darker, you are probably being sped up (that, or nightwielder is visiting Edmonton). If it's getting uncomfortably bright, things might be slowing down.
  10. That would imply that the agricultural sector would be covered in green mist, which might be fitting, all things considered. From my current understanding of time dilation, there would already be visibility issues inside really fast/slow zones, because really fast ones would be really dark inside, and really slow ones would be really bright inside.
  11. To motivate myself to cast a real vote before the cycle's end, I'm voting Drake. Now, if if I fail to change it to a serious vote before rollover, I'll suffer a vote against myself
  12. Maybe. I'm pretty sure in the past they got a new thread when the old one hit 100 pages?
  13. Brute/Mover sounds like a good conclusion, yes. I might actually say Brute 2 Mover 2. Brute 2 because the power significantly increases survability, and while it lacks other common brute enhancements, and isn't a major concern for nonlethal containment, it's still noteworthy. Mover 2 because she can control where she reappears to an extent, and could technically suicide to gain a limited teleport. The closest I can think of in the wormverse for resurrection is Grey Boy's time looping, since that is basically reverting his body to a previous state. Except he does that constantly. Also, I'm pretty sure the PRT has him down as a shaker.
  14. Theoretically, while the village has majority, a double lynch gives the village an additional kill, a bit like a vig kill. This only works if we feel good enough about our leads, but there is a certain stage in the game where a double lynch could benefit the village.
  15. Hi. Wow, posts are actually happening now. Gimme a sec to read 'em. PM safety is good, yep. Although I kind of traded roles with somebody already. No regrets EDIT: Rae, your decision to communicate in parodies is beautiful. Also, we can kill multiple people in one lynch? To be honest, that sounds really useful to me. Kind of pointless to do that on day 1 when we don't know enough, but later on when we have better leads, we should think about leveraging that rule to get more out of our lynches.
  16. Hm, I had it down as Brute 5, but I can see a good case for it being a Breaker rating
  17. Ah, didn't know exactly Ray's lances worked. 1. In my character post, I included 3 possible histories for Epoch. In the first, he controls the city, but is about to lose control due to several big changes. In the second, he only controls one of the 5 sectors in the city, and just charges the other factions a toll for using his speed zones. In the third, he never existed. Assuming people want time zones at all, perhaps the second timeline fits what you are talking about? 2. The mist thing sounds fun, I fully support this. 3. Well, I'm Canadian, and I'm perfectly fine with using the term But it is a fair point that the term is improbable. What if it was just all the American epics (ie the ones from Oregon) started calling them "maples"? That's a lot more plausible, and it would be kind of funny
  18. Didn't know that. Maybe I'll give the comic a look. I picked the name because it is another double pun EDIT: Also, I was bored, and have now created PRT classifications for each of this RP's epics. The PRT (parahuman response team) is a government agency dedicated to dealing with superhumans, from Worm. Not sure if all of them are accurate, but @Arraenae can correct me if not. They are edited in at the bottom of my post in the character thread.
  19. I finished editing in a handful of character concepts to my post in the character thread. Feedback would be welcome. It includes a more in-depth covering of Epoch and a possible profile for Epoch's head enforcer. It also includes a totally unrelated epic that I thought could be fun. Her abilities are totally not a joke about quantum physics, nope It also includes a maple that follows a certain epic.
  20. Do I have your okay to make a maple character that has been following Armageddon since before the RP? I like this. It's an unusual flavor and the potential applications are interesting.
  21. Yessss you actually named it that. Characters: Epoch Quietus Blindside Lorri Jackson Pariah Archetype Surrogate Railway Some New Character Ideas: PRT Records
  22. If we tried this, and multiple threads turned out to be necessary, I would probably want to find a suitable way to kill Epoch off quickly and have his time zones die with him. For most of the story, the time zones should basically function as "barriers you probably shouldn't cross" or "plot reasons to quickly travel throughout the city." In short, they ought to facilitate RP, not make it more difficult. I realize they will inevitably cause a few time gaps, if people are fighting to control the network of fast-travel highways for example. But I would not want them to cause very much more time gaps than what might naturally occur already in an RP where multiple scenes are written at once. I was toying with a maple character who would eventually try to become what you are talking about. I'm toying with kind of a lot of random ideas at this point though, so I am hoping HH will go through with their character idea. EDIT: To my knowledge, all you need to start is a cool character idea to RP. You could make the character an epic, or a non-powered person. The actual RP thread hasn't really been posted yet. The RP died off a while ago and we are rebooting. But the thread should be up soon (I think).
  23. I like the web idea. That would be fun. I’m okay with giving Epoch rivals, if Epoch is even a thing. But I do actually have a rationale for why Epoch would be initially in charge: 1. Control is not all about being the toughest person in a fair fight. Utility is actually pretty important. Epoch has a knack for tactics, and the power to easily control commerce and transportation. He can afford to hire the city’s largest army of redshirts with guns (and even some lesser powers), he can slow the progress of invaders to a crawl, and he can drop speed bubbles to let his redshirt army prepare tailor made death traps. From there, he can recruit more combat-oriented epics. 2. There really weren’t that many powerful epics in town before. It was of coarse inevitable that someday somebody powerful would come along and dethrone Epoch, and that is exactly what is happening in the RP. That sounds cool to me too It would be fun to have somebody in the RP that makes motivator tech, and to my knowledge this doesn’t break canon. I’m perfectly happy not having Epoch be a thing if the time powers are too mind-screwy. I honestly did not expect this would be a real candidate when I started writing, I just wanted to play with a different take on “portal system” and “canyons”
  24. 2000, huh. Didn't notice that And yes, I quite agree on the "many similar sized factions" front. If the Epoch thing happens, I would want his ultimate fate to be that a worthy newcomer epic murders him at some point in the story. The time zones he created would stick around after his death, and everybody would pretty much just carry on making their bids for control over the city.
