  1. I suspected you because your actions initially looked like an elimy mixture of caution about drawing attention to yourself and trying to get certain people suspected. That's part of why I made an effort to confront you on it, because the way you responded would help reveal where your priorities lie in this game. For what it's worth my suspicion of you has toned down during this cycle. I'm thinking that the parts I found suspicious are just aspects of your playstyle and less strongly alignment indicative. As for Kynedath? I don't entirely remember. I'll comb back through their posts and see if it jogs my memory, though. Now, we are halfway through the day already. I'd expect a more vibrant lynch discussion than this, considering what we had on D1. Kind of makes me wonder about the current lynch candidates. Also kind of makes me want to stir things up because right now the lynch is waaaaay more boring than D1 lynch Probably won't last, though. I'm still awaiting Magestar's response to my question, and not entirely disinclined to vote for them, but... Right now... Ventyl (@Ventyl), how do you plea? And now a word from our favorite agency...
  2. Thank you for following through and voting for me. I appreciate directness. And, of course, I wanted to see how you responded. As for my response... Well, I obviously support posting reads without justification, and here's why: In a perfect world, I would always do a great job of explaining everything I say. But like I said before, you only have so much time, so it matters what you choose to talk about. I'd rather share my thoughts imperfectly than not at all. And I'd rather share my reads on everyone than just analyze 1 or 2 people because I'm getting tripped up needing to defend everything I said. In the long run the former is much more useful. I hope you all would do the same. And, of course, I made my reads brief because I already hit 200 words. I can and will provide more detail on demand, but I literally can't put it all in one post, so I might as well wait and see what I most need to elaborate on. You might say it's a convenient excuse, and it is, but then I refer you back to the other reasons I put before this one.
  3. Forgot about this line from Araris. Striker clarified this publicly on D1 and if I were an elim I would have definitely paid attention to it. The items in this game are pretty powerful and in particular whether or not the elims are likely to get the lerasium bead is a fairly massive tactical difference. Not conclusive, but makes me trust Araris more. I have... More of a direction I want to go in than a specific outcome. Anything goes so long as it's headed in the right general direction. Since that direction is embedded in some weird, higher-dimensional cognitive space, the resultant motion seems quite chaotic and nonlinear Jury's also still out on whether I actually succeed in getting to where I'm pointed at. Huh. Missed that. Something to keep in mind, but not conclusive yet. 1. I agree that boxing hunting is NAI. 2. I agree that creating vote trains at the end just to avoid vote manips and distribute boxings is a bad idea. 3. I disagree with your role analysis: Predicting alignment by roles is tenuous, you don't even know my full role, and a Gasper role has village uses not dissimilar to the Smoker role.
  4. Sure: For most people I have a read on, there are at least some actions I have a hard time reconciling as coming from elim. You somehow aren't in that category. Gut read. I admit I might be a little biased to justify your lynch on the grounds that you already have a vote and I think you're a better option than the other ones on the table. Sorry if you expected a better explanation to respond to. D2 isn't a great day for that. Something you can respond to, though. Could you walk me through your thinking about asking me to switch to Ashbringer on D1? It might help. Sure: The way you are going about things feels pretty different from last time we were in a game, which if I remember was this game's predecessor, in which you were a villager. There were parts of your reasoning on D1 that seemed a bit off to me. The fact that your main activity this cycle is self-defense when you don't even have any votes yet is a bit telling. No one of these weigh that much against you, but together it's reason enough to suspect you, at this point.
  5. Lynching the wrong person is far from the most suspicious thing you could manage to do That's just how the game is set up. In my time playing SE again I would agree that it seems like killing less active players has become more of the meta for elims. I still think we can learn from that though, because just because it's the meta doesn't mean you always follow it. If one of your own just had a near miss, you'd be a little more geared up to go on the offense and make some waves, no? It makes me read Hatz as slightly more village. I agree with the other thing you say here. Sure. No Read means I feel like I just don't have any thoughts about that person / haven't heard from them much. Neutral means I do have some stuff for them I think could be alignment indicative but the scales come out more or less even. The word counter I've been using says they're all 200, but some of them count certain things differently. You really didn't have to draw attention to that fact, though Anyone paying close attention knows that this means I'm claiming Gasper.
  6. As far as I understand it, basically how the collusion unfolded was: I didn't like the Coda lynch + wanted to put Matrim up. Pyro agreed, voted for Matrim. Matrim posted and addressed concerns. Me and Pyro both retracted our votes because of that. I still didn't like the Coda lynch. Since I chose last time and Pyro followed, I said I would follow whatever Pyro chose this time. Pyro chose Karnage. I asked Pyro if they could pick somebody else. If I find a reason to suspect Karnage I won't hold back of course, but since D1 lynches are barely more than random, I would rather not target the same player across multiple games more than is necessary. And I had recently finished gunning for Karnage's mislynch in the last game I played. I eventually conceded to lynching Karnage. Pyro responded to my request by suggesting Walin or Hatz as an alternative lynch. I'm not positive why Hatz got picked over Walin, maybe the joke I made about Hatz name sounding evil signaled my preference for Hatz(?) Pyro went through with switching to Hatz. Ashbringer agreed and switched to Hatz. I was happy to follow suit and vote for Hatz. Mist weighed the people who already had votes and picked Hatz. Karnage also switched to Hatz to break a perceived tie. @StrikerEZ I notice Karnage's name didn't make it into the vote tally... I thought the voting totals were the only thing affected by vote manipulation... In the SHOUTY-SHOUT PM I asked Coda to vote out of self-preservation, because it made sense to prevent the lynch of somebody I trusted, and because I was legitimately a bit curious why Coda hadn't already done so. As far as I know, the last bit is the only part that didn't happen in-thread.
  7. There are a lot of possible scenarios. You chose to spend most of your efforts talking about this one. Own that decision. If you are going to spend most of your discussion posts theorizing about me and Pyro being in a conspiracy, you probably should vote for one of us. What else is voting for if not that? I know that I would probably squint at the justifications provided if you turned around and voted for somebody else. No worries. My issues with your prior theorizing aside, this part just seems like it was a simple misunderstanding. Related to the previous stuff, but I feel like I should respond to the reasoning against me here. "They seemed honest, but the way they went about it was... chaotic" is a pretty good description of me just in general I try harder to save people than most, you are hardly the first to see it as pocketing. I don't expect you to know this, I'm just saying to the best of my knowledge it's not atypical of me. I've been told that I also do pocket people as an eliminator, for reference. Although I think I'm usually more subtle about doing that(?).
  8. Quoting posts I want to respond to one by one. This is gonna be broken into multiple posts. If you've mentioned me, I will get to it eventually and respond, I'm just responding in chronological order. I will just say here and now that I don't personally suspect Karnage any more or less from the fact that they got voted on for a short period of time before the votes switched to somebody else, and I kind of disagree with the reasoning of anyone who does. I will also say I didn't think the reasons for switching off of Karnage were particularly unclear? But more on that later. Not necessarily bad strategy. If you trust all the people you have reads on, it follows that you should lynch somebody you don't have a read on. Also, eliminators sometimes have it a little too easy hiding in the pool of less active players. From a meta perspective I think that being part of that pool of players should always come with a risk of being singled out and lynched. Active players aren't particularly more likely to be eliminators and they do tend to make the game more interesting regardless of alignment.
  9. Devotary, huh? Not gonna read too much into it 'cause D1 kills are usually decided fairly randomly and noncommittally, but in general, killing a lower profile player says to me that the elims are fairly comfortable with the D1 lynch outcome and don't feel a need to get aggressive. Says they think there's at least a decent prospect of getting recently active villagers lynched. These are my reads, no explanation or context provided (will be provided on request): Drake- Village, Obviously Ashbringer- Village Araris- Slight Village Pyromancer- Slight Village Hats- Very Slight Village Experience- Neutral Elandera- Neutral Matrim's Dice- Neutral Mist- Neutral Xino- Neutral Karnage- No Read Elkanah- No Read Reading- No Read Emi- No Read Lahilt- No Read Walin- No Read God King- No Read TJ Shade- Slight Suspcion Ventyl- Slight Suspicion Kynedath- Slight Suspicion Magestar- Slight Suspicion It's getting harder to analyze what elims would do since I haven't been one in so long... Not as easy to put myself in their place (assuming you believe I'm not one in this game, that is). But a comprehensive reads list is helpful to the village, even if I don't know what I'm doing which is probable. More posts incoming.
  10. (Part 7, the number of the final Harry Potter book.) Confident Indecision Maker: ELLIPSES ARE NEARLY AS GOOD AS EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! (But still less patriotic to the SHOUTY-SHOUT AGENCY!!!) VERY WELL!!! I AM NOW HOLDING UP UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!!! Confident Indecision Maker: WEEEE WOOO WEEEE WOOO WEEE WOOO WEEE WOOO!!!!!! (that is the klaxon going off in the distance) The Intern: How do I feel about the extensive content?!? How am I supposed to keep up?!? I decided to try to do Orlok-style analysis on EVERYTHING, and THERE IS SO MUCH EVERYTHING!!! The Representative: Your exclamation points have appeased the great beast that haunts these halls! You are not in danger(anymore)! Also, it still does appear that I will die, so practice your eulogies! Or save me if you want! I don't care either way! Do not fear the content that you seek! You will find it or you will be torn to pieces by the bloodthirsty beasts you call people! (The transcript paused here as the narrator was ripped to pieces by a pack of bloodthirsty people. The new narrator would like to comment that all the narration was added after the fact by Stick and Confident Indecision Maker.)
  11. Stick: The stick speaks up in the corner. "I am a stick." This is not a vote for or against, so it could be interpreted as 'abstain,' if you squinted. The Representative: I said exclamation points mandatory! I do not see exclamation points, Stick! Stick, this is Strike 1! The COFFEE MACHINE: Uhh...! Abstain! At least for now. The Representative: It seems that the Talky-talk Agency is filled with indecisive individuals! That would make an excellent slogan! The Talky-talk Agency, only including indecisive individuals! Also, Stick, I appreciate your attempts to keep me alive! Fear not, I have asked the Great and Mighty Game Master to make my death scene long, drawn-out, and magnificent! Stick: The stick looks abashed, then kind of wiggles in appreciation. "I am a stick!" The Representative: Better! Next time, I expect even more passion! We here at the Talky-talk Agency channel our inner fishy Captain of the Royal Guard and EXPRESS OUR EMOTIONS EXTREMELY WILDLY! THE COFFEE MACHINE: Alright then, Aye! The Representative: ONE vote in favor of talking about the game! TWO votes in abstinence! ZERO votes in favor of not talking about the game! Get your votes in, agents! (To be more continued)
  12. Lorena shrugged on her coat, grabbed the empty crate that had contained the days food supplies, and set it in the middle of the room with a thud. "Ahem." She reviewed a crinkled piece of parchment, mentally practicing the IMPORTANT SPEECH before hopping up onto the crate. "We are gathered here today to commemorate the untimely death of Coda. Although I personally didn't really know this Coda person that well, and I imagine you all are in a similar boat, they will be sorely missed. They really had a lot of virtues, chief among them being SHOUTING!!! They SHOUTED most frequently and with gusto, and even formed a most illustrious and charitable organization dedicated wholly to SHOUTING!!! I am referring, of course, to the SHOUTY-SHOUT AGENCY!!! Among their other virtues was DISLOYALTY!!! And by that I mean they weren't a LOYALIST. Which, kind of, means that they were actually very LOYAL. Kind of confusing, when you think about it, which I make a point of NOT DOING!!! Anyway, this has been kind of a rambling eulogy, but we of the SHOUTY-SHOUT AGENCY!!! thought it was appropriate. And now a word from NEW REPRESENTATIVE FLAMING NINJA STICK here with DOC GOOGLE!!!"
  13. I like this analysis. One slight nitpick though, I would not recommend that people speak up if storing is what cancelled their vote, because in that case 1 of the 2 possibilities is that they are a Sparker, which is a very valuable role for a villager and should probably be kept secret for now. Clarify? I tried to make a tie last cycle, and the thing you quoted is me saying that making ties isn't a bad objective. How does that contradict? I kind of doubt that the creation of a tie was in fact the motivation behind that particular vote manipulation, because kind of the whole point of having a tie is that people know there's a tie and will be forced to respond to that, but that is neither here nor there. I am curious about your thoughts here. Are you meaning to say that the use of vote manipulation was justified? Are you meaning to say that I am suspicious for casting aspersions on a behavior that bears a resemblance in at least one respect to my own? Both? Neither? I asked Coda to vote in self-preservation. That's pretty much the rule I added Yeah
  14. Order of business: 1) responding to / analyzing the night's posts in order 2) finally doing some more RP Whoops my pattern didn't register "Hatz" as a legitimate abbreviation for "IluvHats" Fixed. It's a system that requires a bit of fine tuning to create patterns that match any possible abbreviations to a person's name, but it helps when you point those discrepancies out for me I like this philosophy from a game design point of view because it means you have to piece together what exactly happened. Pyro and I were up-front about voting in unison in order to save Coda. I don't think there was anything particularly sneaky about it, and I don't think we were particularly controlling the lynch because we didn't even end up getting what we wanted out of it. Personally, I was trying to save Coda because: We had a really funny PM last cycle. I disagreed with every single one of the arguments made against Coda. Before I started defending Coda the Coda lynch had zero competition, which meant it was probably going to be fruitless. I kind of make a point of defending the people who nobody else is defending in these games.
  15. My tally for last cycle is: Vote Tally ILuvHats (4): Ashbringer, DrakeMarshall, Karnage, Mist Coda (3): Araris Valerian, Experience, Ventyl Karnage (2): Coda, xinoehp512 Ashbringer (2): Lahilt, Magestar Araris Valerian (1): Matrim's_Dice Experience (1): Elandera Matrim's_Dice (1): The_God_King Mist (1): Shard of Reading Magestar (1): TJ Shade The_God_King (1): Elkanah
  16. NOOOOO PRESIDENT SHOUTY-SHOUT!!!! We had a fun PM while it lasted I will try to honor your request. I am also sad that we lost somebody with such a nice synergy of abilities. The combination of knowing people's roles and being able to kill somebody and steal their role is obviously fantastic, even if it seems the hemalurgist doesn't get to keep the charged spike. Some vote manipulating action going down, huh? Although the creation of a tie is not the worst goal to have, I am still curious why. If it wasn't the result of Feruchemy, and it was a villager who intervened, I kind of want to ask them to claim their actions, because I would not really expect a villager who wasn't strongly invested in the lynch to intervene. @Magestar sorry I didn't see that you @ me last cycle, I was in a rush to get my vote cast and go do something else IRL. I might have considered it otherwise. Anyway there isn't a lynch discussion this cycle but there can still be discussion, especially because there are opportunities to make $$$boxings, and if you are even half as greedy as I am that's reason enough.
  17. Okay, IluvHatz. From the wording, I don't think a tie lynches any random player, for the record.
  18. Tallybot activate!! Vote Tally Karnage (4): Coda, DrakeMarshall, The Young Pyromancer, xinoehp512 Coda (3): Araris Valerian, Experience, Ventyl Araris Valerian (2): Karnage, Matrim's_Dice Ashbringer (2): Lahilt, Magestar Experience (1): Elandera Matrim's_Dice (1): The_God_King Mist (1): Shard of Reading Magestar (1): TJ Shade The_God_King (1): Elkanah Huh it's not a tie... Araris
  19. Huzzah it's a tie. What I like about ties is that they are unstable. Something interesting always happens when there is a tie towards the end of the cycle, whether or not the tie gets broken or not.
  20. The latter does have a character name that sounds decidedly villainous...
  21. Probably for the best. Makes sense to give the award to the people with the most substantial posts, at least for future cycles. It will probably make it easier to analyze things, because it's not so easy for me to sort through 20 pages of content for analysis purposes. And it's more in line with what the rules are trying to incentivize, I imagine. It has been immensely entertaining to see the first cycle of this game rack up more pages of content than some games get in their entirety, though. I kind of hope it doesn't drop too much with such an auspicious start, even if the posts become individually more substantial. Anyways: Vote Tally Coda (4): Araris Valerian, Experience, Magestar, Ventyl Araris Valerian (2): Karnage, Matrim's_Dice Karnage (2): The Young Pyromancer, xinoehp512 Experience (1): Elandera Matrim's_Dice (1): The_God_King Mist (1): Shard of Reading Ashbringer (1): Lahilt Magestar (1): TJ Shade The_God_King (1): Elkanah A Joe in the Bush (1): Coda With an hour to go in the cycle, I feel somewhat more motivated to have a vote on somebody. I don't particularly want to lynch Araris, because I like the kind of discussion they are encouraging. Sigh... Karnage.
  22. Feels bad trying to make a counter-lynch on the guy I totally lead the charge against lynching (mistakenly) in my last game I'll consolidate if we need to, but I don't suppose I could ask you to pick somebody else? Sorry.
  23. Being a firesoul on either team is useful in proportion to the amount that you don't let on that you are a firesoul, though... Anyway if I could bait people into lynching me and kill everyone, I would do it too. I would probably make it my personal goal to engineer a situation in which I can kill literally everyone else and secure a smashing victory for my faction in a roundabout way, probably by framing myself as the kandra. That sounds like great fun (also prohibitively difficult but some players managed something really similar in a QF a little while back with an amped up Jester mechanic)
  24. Alright, I have you down as pleading "very confused" Your case has been deferred as well. Confusion is an acceptable response to my vote Although I will note that it is uncommon for people to feel a need to defend themselves against having a single vote on them during the first day, I won't pursue that any further for the time being. Interesting, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am tentatively reading you as village at this point. Since I already voted for Ashbringer I'll try to single out somebody else this time, but that is a fair explanation. This. I like this post. Don't take D1 voting too seriously. At the same time, cast your votes with the intention of choosing who dies. I don't have feelings any particular way about lynching Experience. I considered it, but the way they held their ground with voting for Coda didn't seem unusually suspicious to me, as much as I don't actually agree with lynching Coda. Appreciated! I am still gunning for a contested vote this cycle, and we don't really have that right now. As part of the outspoken "save Coda" initiative, would you care to pick the next target?
  25. Yay, this is why prodding players who are already active to weigh in on the lynch discussion pays off. I no longer support lynching you, Matrim's_Dice. I am very much willing to single out and vote for any of those other people you mention who are also not participating in the discussion. Especially since as of now you are participating quite admirably in the discussion, in my books. Would you care to name some of those others you had in mind when you wrote this?
