Legion has two books in the series so far. Both are pretty short but, in my opinion, both are also pretty good haha. If you do read them then please let me know what you think afterwards!

No worries. I can understand being frustrated by that and, as you helped me realize, my response was definitely weak. Hmmm, there is one idea that an earlier post of yours just sparked in my mind. You wrote that mixed Investiture is black tinged, right? What if Nightblood isn't made with 100% Endowment Investiture? What if the reason all (some?) of the Investiture he absorbs turns to black smoke is because he is a mix of Endowment and... Honor/Cultivation/Odium? We know Vasher had been to Roshar before making Nightblood and that he based Nightblood on Shardblades. Perhaps Nightblood mixes up the Investiture he consumes and then it is unusable by any single Shard because the Shards cannot separate out their Investiture from another Shard's Investiture. But! If the appropriate super-Shard (similar to Harmony) was formed perhaps that super-Shard could use the mixed Investiture if it matched? I.e. If Nightblood is, theoretically, made of Endowment and Honor and Endowment picked up Honor's Shard then this new Shard would be able to use Nightblood's "corrupted" Investiture?

People of Scadrial Dangerously Behind the Times?
CaptainRyan replied to Radiant Returned's topic in Mistborn
The IRE are a bit of an enigma as we are not sure where they fall in the Elantris timeline. If they are pre-Reod Elantrians who became stuck in the CR after the shattering of Devotion/Dominion then they might have some serious Cosmere-awareness but be relatively isolated from Sel. During Elantris itself we saw that most of the older, and more powerful, Elantrians died during the Reod so Elantris has definitely taken a hit in their Cosmere growth. Otoh, Elantris is one of the first books in the Cosmere timeline so they also have had some time to advance. Otooh (on the other other hand), we have a WoB that worldhopping from Sel is hard as all get out haha so they can also affect their growth. Threnody is another special case I think. Threnody does not, currently, have a Shard on it so that limits the planet in some ways. Also, I think the IRE worry about Threnody because the shades (which are some form of a deadly Cognitive Shadow) can roam somewhat. I do not think the actual populace of Threnody have much in the way of Cosmere-awareness. Nazh may be the only Threnody world-hopper or one of a small group. Khriss herself is arguably top 3 for most "Cosmere-aware" person in the Cosmere haha. She does not, however and as far as I know, reflect the general situation on Taldain. In fact, Taldain might be somewhat inaccessible and this is what Khriss means by being exiled. She is also a part of/has worked with the 17th Shard (the in-Cosmere group, not us haha) and is therefore very, very Cosmere-aware. If you read White Sands (the graphic novel though I assume the info is in the prose as well) then you will know that: White Sands also seems to occur somewhat early on in the Cosmere timeline so it is possible that they have time to "tech up". Anywho, despite what I wrote above I think you do have cause to worry. I know Sanderson has said he does not plan on "balancing" the Cosmere as if it were an RPG so there is a real possibility of civilizations being left behind. Sixth of Dusk gives us a great example of I am very interested to see how Sanderson handles the Cosmere coming together! Only another 15-20 years and we should have our first look! -

Heal Honor-din to a new level! Hurt Jasnah. 1. Kaladin 60 HP 5. Shallan 28 HP 20. Marsh 15 HP 25. Jasnah 22 HP edit: Didn't want to make a new post for this but @Magestar I am rooting for Marsh to make it to the final three or even the final two! Good luck Ironeyes!- 802 replies

Ah, I see. I definitely favor his Cosmere works. Don't tell the people over at the Reckoner's RPG but I only liked "Steelheart"; I thought "Firefight" and "Calamity" were weak sequels and I did not enjoy the Reckoner's series overall. Legion is a great non-Cosmere work that I wish Brandon would explore a bit more - I have a weakness for Sherlock Holmes-esque stuff I guess (which explains why I think Wax is such a great character). Anywho, I'm sure you were deeply interested in my non-Cosmere Sanderson opinion haha.

@Radiant Returned: I'm not sure if you are only listing Cosmere books but Sanderson is also releasing a novella entitled "Snapshot" in early 2017 and he is also doing another novella for an anthology that is being released in November of this year (I do not have a name for this second novella. Also, I am not referring to Arcanum Unbounded haha).

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
CaptainRyan replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Marsh was added in the Final Empire, well before Ruin was released at the end of Well of Ascension. I think the question was "After Ruin was released did Ruin craft new Inquisitors or did he simply power-up the ones that were already available?" -

Welcome @Storm! Glad to have you! If you have any questions about Sanderson books, the forums, or anything else do not hesitate to ask. The community here is pretty awesome and people are always willing to help out. If you haven't read them yet, it might be a good idea to glance through the forum guidelines found here: Also, please be careful when reading in some of the forums; there are a TON of spoilers. I would seriously stay away from the Cosmere Theories forum, the Coppermind wiki, and the Mistborn forum until you have read more of the books. The ending to the first Mistborn trilogies is one of my favorites and I would hate for it to be spoiled for you.

Brandon Sanderson-esque books
CaptainRyan replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Entertainment Discussion
The closest thing that I have read recently that is "Sanderson-esque" is the "Codex Alera" by Jim Butcher. It is a 6 book series (fully completed btw) that is quite good. I enjoyed the magic system, the character development was on point and there is a solid plot. It has some weaknesses and flaws but, overall, I would strongly recommend it. Another close contender for "Sanderson-esque" is the "Lightbringer" series by Brent Weeks. I believe it is still ongoing. It has a really cool magic system, that was one of my favorite parts about the series. There are some interesting characters and a nifty world to go with it. I, personally, feel it is dragging out a bit but I would still recommend it. The "Wheel of Time" by Robert Jordan is great but it is very long (14 books! 3 of them by Brandon). It has some great characters (and some awful ones), it has a fleshed out magic system, it has adventure, world building, political intrigue and lots and lots of dresses haha. If you enjoy fantasy books I think you will enjoy WoT but it is quite a commitment. "Blood Song" by Anthony Ryan is a fantastic book that I would highly recommend. The other two in the trilogy (cannot remember their names off the top of my head) were a bit of a let down imo but I do know some people who enjoyed the whole series. "The Lies of Locke Lamora" by Scott Lynch is another incredible book that I could not recommend enough. It is fun, witty, exciting and more! It does have a lot of language (no made up curses here) and there are a few rather gritty scenes (somebody gets some serious payback against their enemy) but nothing sexual. I absolutely hated the next two books in the series (it is ongoing) and definitely do not recommend them but YMMV. As @Amanuensis said the "Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne" trilogy and the "Powder Mage" trilogy are both options. I have read both series and found them, generally, lacking for a variety of reasons. They were decent reads but nothing that I really got excited about. Umm, hmmm, what else. There is some older sci-fi/fantasy novels you might try. "The Rowan" by Anne McCaffrey, the original "Dragonlance" trilogy by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, "Dune" by Frank Herbert, the "Belgariad" by David Eddings (if you read this series then please read "Belgarath the Sorcerer" after - that is one of my all-time favorite books!), "the Redemption of Althalus" by David Eddings, "Starship Troopers" by Robert A. Heinlein, the "Hitchhiker's Guide" series by Douglas Adams. Oh, if you want a non-fantasy fiction work that is just absolutely incredible then please read "the Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas - the plot in that book is incredibly well done I literally cannot explain in words how much I love it. I'm sure I am forgetting some other good material and, if I think of it, I will either edit this comment or post a new one. Happy reading! -
Gavilar's Black Sphere theories
CaptainRyan replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sure. It could, as far as I know, theoretically work haha. I certainly do not have any direct evidence to counter the idea that the Black Sphere is Midnight Essence. On the other hand, we also do not have much information at all about the Black Sphere so I would not personally endorse this idea either. -
Knights Radiant linked to Heralds
CaptainRyan replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would be hesitant to label a dispute an "all out fight". A dispute could be merely a verbal altercation involving harsh words, threats etc. whereas an "all out fight" would be the two Orders summoning Shardblades and literally fighting no? Also, note what WeiryWriter said here: The Patron Herald of the Bondsmiths threatened to end them - perhaps he does have the power to sever their bonds or prevent new bonds? -
