  3. WayneSpren, Stephen has bought and struggles to maintain a giant forty-odd-room mansion because each of his hallucinations wants to have its own room and they turn into monsters if he tries cramping them all into his basement. He does not have any friend that could be empirically proved to exist. He's a specialist in over thirty different professions, but only because he has all those specialists crammed into his head. He can become an expert in any given field within hours without even paying attention to stuff he's learning. He regularly botches his dates because facets of his mind keep on interrupting him. He becomes incapable of deciphering human body language when his specialist on this topic is left behind - oh, and his hallucinations can be left behind, because apparently they can't teleport where he goes, so he has to drive giant cars to fit them in. His aspects have psychological issues of their own, and let's not even get into spoiler-level stuff! Frankly, I'm pretty sure if there was weirdness competition, Stephen would certainly win with L. On that note, hurt David. 1. David--12 2. Megan--18 3. Cody--18 9. Joel--17 10. Melody--16 17. Stephen Leeds--19
  4. Ugh, I dear hope not. This concept is so popular, there are three different tropes just to describe its varieties. I'd easily withstand Kaladin spending the next two books quietly pining for Shallan from a distance and going all craaawling iiin my skiiin on us if this cliché was the alternative. I'd say not really - she has literally no proof of her identity, and the last time Kaladin saw her, she gave him a completely different story for herself. There's no reason for him to trust her this time when she lied the last time, and there's no reason for her to assume she'll just be let inside - save for the "entitlement" that comes with lighteyes upbringing. Considering that boot theft thing, I'd say she should've swallowed her pride and act slightly more agreeable than "bah, you're so far beneath me, I bet you don't even know who your parents are". True, Kaladin didn't act like he should either, but I'm with goody153 on this one - it's Shallan who's responsible for the conflict escalating like that.
  5. I wholeheartedly agree with Patar, Stephen is a fascinating character. Legion is certainly worth a read and worth the price, despite not taking much time to go through (both novellas back-to-back took me less than two hours to read, IIRC). On that note, heal Stephen, hurt... David, I guess? All low-point combatants seem to have been elliminated at this point... 1. David--15 2. Megan--19 3. Cody--17 9. Joel--17 10. Melody--16 17. 8. This precisely. With Shallan, I think this was also supposed to show that despite Shallan being so sympathetic a protagonist (arguable - I admit I'm not fond of her at all), she's still a Lighteyes, and has been brought up as such, with the outlook this implies. This is, basically, our introduction to how many lighteyes portray darkeyes: as people who are supposed to bow down to lighteyes' every wish and who don't care about those oh so important things like lineage. As for Kaladin, I think it's both to show that he too can be a jackass, but also to portray that he was losing his cool over Shallan's treatment of him, both before and after. He hates lighteyes for a multitude of reasons, and Shallan's behaviour pushed all of those buttons like a fist smashing a keyboard. Kaladin let loose with the insults, because in contrast to other annoying lighteyes like Matal (?), Sadeas and Amaram, here he doesn't feel like he'll suffer consequences for screaming at her, and so he's free to vent his frustrations.

  11. @Blightsong, as far as I'm aware, the general consensus on the forum is that it's either Voidbinding chart or Fabrial Science chart; IIRC, it's called Voidbinding Chart around here because that's how the person who uploaded the pic on Coppermind named the file. As for the woman, there has been discussion as to her identity; I believe the propositions given were that she's either Cultivation, Reya (of the Reya's Tear fame), Nightwatcher, Adolin's mother (it's the hair colour), or a random Vorin woman put there for decoration. To make matter more difficult, she has Vorin safehand, but non-Vorin (likely Iriali) hair colour. I was going to say that maybe she's one of the Heralds, before I realized that we do, actually, have pictures of Heralds, or at least their heads. So I went comparing, and unfortunately, there's no definite match; she has eye shape and "wild hair" of Paliah, but Chana's nose and Battar's lips and chin. So... could be Herald, could be not a Herald. If this is a Fabrial Science chart, my bet would be on Battar, as she, being a patron of Elsecallers, would have deepest ties to spren and thus fabrial-making.
  12. @sheep, that's some awesome art! I absolutely adore your design of Iyatil's mask, and the colour in both the poster and - especially - the slaver wagon piece is just stunning. And the details in the "training day" pic cracked me up; especially Shallan's smile For some reason, I've always imagined the ghostblood symbol to look more along the lines of this: but you're right, we don't really have a good description - and my vision doesn't lend itself to character portraits, really. My personal quest to figure out Urithiru continues! Yeah, the problem with the building is that it's so ridiculously huge, it's kind of hard to imagine it in the context of fantasy series. Either those terraces are ridiculously tiny, are partly hidden under the next level, or the building's base is unreasonably wide. So we have to think less cups and more wide bowls. Regardless, from a distance it would probably look something like a fat unicorn horn - even if the topmost level is only a tiny round chamber of 1 m radius, it would still make the ground level have a radius half again that of Burj Khalifa's (itself roughly twice the height of Urithiru). That tall triangle over Burj Khalifa is supposed to be Urithiru. Hope my musings are even moderately helpful.

  16. I believe they use it as an extra storage. Me'laan mentions having back-up food and water in hers. She also mentions having a brain in a metal box in her leg, so the kandra apparently do need brain for something.

  19. It did. IIRC, one of the last chapters of WoR had Dalinar happy that he didn't have to climb all those stairs, and mentioning that Navani is raving about the magical elevator tech of the ancients. I'm stumped on Ishar as well, though I've been thinking... Bondsmiths have connection with Stormfather, aye? And Stormfather is responsible for highstorms, so could Ishar be the teacher of something like proto-stormwarding? Over time, with future-guessing being considered eevil and modern stormwardens not being A Thing until recently, the ability to guess when the highstorm will come correctly four times out of five could be considered good luck.
  20. Interesting topic. When it comes to Battar, I wonder if she wouldn't be teaching men about spren; as an Elsecaller patron, one would assume she'd know the most about them, especially seeing how Elsecallers apparently used to consider themselves authority on sprenkind. Maybe Battar taught people some basic fabrials and ways to trap spren? Someone did build Oathgates and Urithiru elevators, after all. Could Chana be responsible for something like militia/self defence forces? With Taln teaching soldiers, and Nale lawkeepers (I assume), the civillian populace could also use some defensive training. Chana could be responsible for stuff like training farmers how to use their scythes for combat (an aside: would Roshar have scythes, actually?).

  22. All the female Shard-side Heralds are women, and all male Shard-side Heralds are men... I do not believe this is a coincidence. @jofwu, I didn't say anything until now, but this chart is really awesome, and kudos to you for making it.
  23. Cool idea. You could bring a bunch of unkeyed Nicrosilminds with you from Scadrial to power Nightblood. Oh, and if Nightblood is Commanded to "destroy evil", would it try to make you go on a crusade again Evil? I mean, it seems like an obvious target for Nightblood... Idea that's probably not true: one of the godmetals lets you store any sort of magic; for example, a Windrunner could store one of his Surges in an godmetal medallion, and then another person could tap it and use Adhesion or Gravitation without Nahel bond. Likewise, an Elantrian could store his "elantricity" ("elantriness"?), and while storing, would be a normal person; a normal person could tap that medallion to become an elantrian for the time of tapping.
