  15. Wow, that Elhokar with the symbolheads image gave me chills. I dare say effect accomplished. And then, of course, I saw Kaladin as rockstar and my mood did a solid 180 turn Awesome art, as always. In my case, I think it's mostly cringeworthy by association with the cover it's on. The headband itself is somewhat goofy, but it makes me cringe mostly because it reminds me of the entire cover and how Kaladin was, to quite some brilliant commenter whose name I cannot remember, "fondling a gemheart", and his face had the most "durrrr" expression I've ever seen. That was not a very good cover, IMO. I admit, I do cringe as well when I see Kaladin acting like an idiot because of his own hot-headedness. Nevertheless, I still find myself liking him; perhaps because despite all the times he's being idiotic, he still manages to overcome this and move forward, character-wise; and he actually wants to move forward, whether or not he's dragging his feet or going in completely wrong direction alltogether. I like when characters develop - well, I'm pretty sure everyone likes that, so I suppose the question whether one likes or dislikes Kaladin hinges on whether or not one can tolarate him when he's still on the path towards that development. I admit, age could play part in that. I am somewhat close in age to Kaladin, so perhaps this is why I sympathize with him. Re: Urithiru - this thing keeps on looking more and more like it was plucked from someplace like Dubai or Shanghai and put on Roshar. I bet it wouldn't look all that out of place in some Earth metropolis.
  16. Nah, I'd say we're moving somewhere. At least Joel and Melody aren't tied any more. Heal Melody, hurt Joel. 3. Cody--50 9. Joel--21 10. Melody--29
  17. Looking at what you people have been discussing, I started to wonder whether there is indeed anything between tension and progression, and I did find a fairly reasonable connection. Then again, I might be grasping at straws here, so there it is, for your review: And in case you can't see the GIF file, here's the step-by-step: I'm not sure if that makes any sense, and what it would mean in terms of actually deciphering the glyphs.

  19. I admit my vision of Adolin was always coloured by this sketch from Shallan's notes: Not sure if it's helpful, but if Adolin's appearance is being discussed, I suppose I might add this picture, since it's as close to the "canon" rendering of Adolin's appearance as we're likely to get.
  20. An idea just popped into my head because of what you've written. Perhaps there is some kind of process, or sequence of events, that a Herald has to perform in order to fully return from Braize and keep a sound mind. Could the Blade be the key? Death is a pretty good way of cutting the connection to it, as is breaking of the oath the Blade is connected to. The nine Heralds broke the oath, and are now pretty stormed up, mentally speaking. Taln died, and is now pretty stormed up in his head as well. Could it be that the Herald has to bond the blade to bring himself back from Braize fully and "transform" back into a living, sane Herald? What the above rambling was trying to say is, perhaps Bonding the blade is a necessary component of the process of coming back to Roshar. For example, let's assume the sequence goes: get resurrected -> re-bond the Honorblade -> say the words (Taln is obsessed with it) -> welcome back! Because he was already late, Taln didn't wait for his blade to re-bond with him, and instead rushed through things, running to Kholinar to say the words. Only someone swindled his Honorblade while there, stopping the bonding process, and so now Taln is trying to get to the next step of the sequence while unable to perform the former one, which is why he keeps on repeating the words while still seeing Braize in his head, as he's stuck mid-"transformation".
  21. The translation could also be the work of regular, Earth-style technology. We're pretty close to create an universal tranlator IRL without access to Connection fiddling, so perhaps Vathi's machine combines Allomantic bronze with regular computer tech? Computer that has tiny A. Bronze "medallion" (allomantic microprocessor? ) as one of its components, maybe?
  22. But that's not a cognitive shadow, just a cognitive aspect of something. Cognitive shadow is when the person isn't attached to their physical part any more, as far as I understand.
