  1. Concur that is possible, but it's also possible that she picked it up from his thoughts as he assumed the pose. She specifically calls out (Ch 46): I agree the implication leans toward your conclusion, but Sanderson has a habit of implying one thing when another thing is occuring. I would say likely, but not conclusive until/unless we get a WoB to clarify. That said - to go back to your OP question: While It may be possible one or more Sleepless moved an Aviar off-world in the past (from Dusk's perspective), I doubt it is likely that they were teh primary source. We know that during RoW - a Ghostbood has an Aviar, and a Feruchemist that is not a Ghostbool also has one. To me, this indicates more than one "source" has accessed Aviar during the time of the events of Stormlight Archive - especially since Mraize's "Aviar" seems to be like Sak - a non-pantheon-native bird to have acquired a Bond (Described as more of a Raptor than parrot species - just as Sak is a Raven (Corvid)). Just providing data for discussion. . .
  2. We do not know that she has ever communicated with the Sleepless on First of the Sun. The passage (IED Ch 46): So, we only know that in Chrysalis' six thousand years of life she has encountered Aviar she beleived to be Herbivorous and that she know of Sleepless residing on First of the Sun to watch the Eelakin. Those two data are not necessarily connected. Sleepless nodes communicate with each other via the Spiritual Realm, which is why hordelings separated from the swarm can still share information. However, Swarms communicating with each other were shown in Dawnshard to need at least 1 hordeling from each swarm to be in the same location (probably does not matter if it is in the PR or CR) because they communicate through a buzzing language with each other: So, at any time before joining Hoid's crew, Chrysalis may have been part of a Sleepless meeting getting reports from the distant members observing specific planets. Or, she may have only been part of a meeting reviewing information gathered from those distant Sleepless. Or she may have just heard rumors of where distant simplings were living. We simply do not have enough information to know. Hope that helps
  3. Is this using D&D and as a Synonym for TTRPG? Or just Dungeons and Dragons, Specifically?
  4. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. I would start your research with the Invision Community website and forums; as that is the base software on which these forums are built - link at the bottom of every page ("Powered by Invision Community") They may even have scholastic deals and such, as Invision is a base suite used by other business and educational customers, not just entertainment/fan communities. Hope that helps.
  5. I would recommend WaT first, and I think you would be happy to find the Easter Eggs that foreshadow what you remember. Just a possible interpretation.
  6. This is me. Having read both, I recommend to friends that saving Sunlit Man until after Wind and Truth is more likely to result in a better reading experience. Spoilers (for those that have read the books and want to understand my reasoning): That said, if you have already read part of Sunlit Man then the order may not matter - depending on what you remember and how well.
  7. Excerpt from Brandon's Preface to Isles of the Emberdark: As far as I can recall, the only real Canon Change was: All of the rest of the changes were small details or added detail referencing Cakoban and the Drominad Mythology. Hope that helps
  8. Same same Isles of the Emberdark. Kida like Tress = TotES = TES or Yumi = YatNP = YNP
  9. Yes - all of the above, cumulative. Blood loss, concussion, shock of seeing Elend's reaction, and aa small Pewter drag with no more Pewter available. Luckily, that was the last assassin, and there was no more fighting to be done (which is why she was willing to use the Duralumin that way). WoA Ch 38: Not precisely. Duralumin (and Chromium, likely also Aluminum and Nicrosil) burn at a rate and cause other metals to burn at higher rates (either releasing all of the effect at once, or producing no effect), so it is possible that too little Duralumin/Chromium comapred to too large a metal reserve would run out before all of the metals are burned away. WoB: Hope that helps
  10. Keep in mind that Moshe retired. Oathbringer was the last book to be edited by Moshe, which may be why there is such a sharp change after that (though IED feels much more like old Sanderson).
  11. The essay is before Era 4, because it specifically calls out Shadesmar as the only way to visit planets, with no known way (at that time) to visit them directly in the Physical Realm. Drominad Essay: Khriss knew the perpendicularity was there, she just did not have coordinates to provide to others. She also suspected that Aviar were tied to Drominad, based on accounts and findings. IED Ch 30: Hope that helps
  12. Added to Urban Fantasy section
  13. Khriss and, presumably, some other people/faction at Silverlight. Arcanum Unbounded Drominad Essay: It is likely that somebody at Silverlight knew in the past, and whoever eventually survived hid that fact. . .
  14. I took that to mean that they can sense the direction of the Dragon to whom they pray. So, in theory, while most travellers would only have the Knell as a point of reference, they would have two points of reference (possibly enabling triangulation to assist in navigation).
  15. Thread? The What are you reading Thread is for discussing your current reads, and any positive or negative feedback you may have (you can also search that thread for a book you are considering - to see what others have thought) If you mean the Recommended Reading Thread - there is a section for WebSerial in the second post. There is not a Manga/Manhwa section because nobody has posted a recommendation for one in the thread (Post one shows the requested info for submitting a recommendation - then just post a rec to the thread and I update it to the first page) - Quote boxes there will show who made the recommendation, so if you have a question about a rec you can reply to their post, or PM the person for more info. - As for Hard/Soft Fantasy, the descriptions will mention that for each item, if the person recommending the book/series defined that. For those I have personally read, I can add that info if it is lacking. The whole idea of the thread was for it to be a community recommendation list, not my personal list (which is why I limit how many I add myself). Any feedback in how the information is presented is welcome, just post in the thread with your thoughts (if you read the thread, you can see how we discussed things like how to separate Fantasy sections when that was getting too long in one spoiler box). A community resource needs community discussion - I just try to keep the first page updated to make it easy for everybody to find what has been suggested (and what may be missing) - because threads like "What am I reading" are great for searching out info on a book you know about, but far too long and unwieldy for finding something new, or comparing options side-by-side (at least that was my thought when I started the thread). Hope that helps.
  16. Don't forget to let us know what you chose, and how you liked it (them).
  17. Yes, some of those are close. RAFO. Very Astute. Teaser: Glad to have you back and hope you are well. Feel free to reach out in-thread or PM if you just need a friendly ear.
  18. To me, HopePunk is, at least, as much about Motive as it is about Actions. (Elantris Spoilers): Neither expresses the sense of community response or rejection of pessimism that seems integral to HopePunk, and not in the way that Raoden does.
  19. Welcome back. I hope you are doing better and can continue to enjoy both the story and this community.
  20. The picture was just a reference from WIkipedia - the poll only went to Boomer, because I expect that would be around the cap.
  21. I would say there may be elements of HopePunk, even some characters may qualify; but overall I would not classify most Cosmere works as HopePunk. Wikipedia Extracts: So, for example, I would say Raoden is a HopePunk Character, but I would not classify Elantris as a HopePunk story. Just my 20yen.
  22. In practice, yes. But technically not correct. Both Aluminum and Duralumin "metabolize" all metals nearly-instantaneously. Duralumin releases all the effect in the compressed rate of time. Aluminum blocks the investiture that would normally be released from the Spiritual Realm by burning metals - meaning you burn all of the metal and get none of the effect. It does not actually destroy the metals themselves (or the released investiture) - just prevents the effect from completing successfully. WoB: Hope that helps
  23. So, just curious about approaches to new internet communities and if they correlate at all to age/generation attitudes and mindsets. From Wikipedia:
  24. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. You have posted this in Arcanum Discussion - which is for discussing the Arcanum section of Coppermind where Words of Brandon (WoB) can be found and searched. This belongs in the Cosmere section - either the Mistborn Forum (Book and series forums are for discussing only that book or series) or the Cosmere Discussion Forum (for discussing two or more books/series). The Main forum Page has descriptions for each forum to help you post information in the correct section: I have reported your postso that the Admins can move it to the correct Forum. His Son was introduced when Cett moved into Luthadel and appeared during Vin and Zane's attack on Keep Hasting, where Lord Cett was staying. Gneorndin is Cett's bearer and assistant Ashweather Cett - The head of House Cett at the end of the Final Empire Allrianne Cett - Ashweather's daughter Gneorndin Cett - Ashweather's son WoA Gneorndin carried on House Cett, and Allrianne married Breeze to carry on House Ladrian. Hope that helps
  25. Concur - the implication I took from the text was that the worms are a symbiotic lifeform with the birds (and that process does not extend to humans) - but the temporary effects of the Purelake Fish and what Dusk experiences are similar and related, but not the same. WoB:
