  1. I think this question makes a false assumption. Let's look at the text - WaT Ch 146: Note - it says nothing about Taravangian. The Shard of Odium - separate from it's vessel - will identify the Dawnshard as the only thing left on the Planet to harm it. That is true. Nightblood may be able to kill a Vessel, but it cannot cause even moderate damage to a Shard, much less Splinter a Shard. Other Shards can (Cultivation has left), Dawnshards can (Wit has(d) one). Nightblood cannot. Sorry. WoB: Hope that helps.
  2. Retribution did not know about the Dawnshard. . . He simply would have discovered it by trying to Kill Wit and the incident with Rysn would have uncovered a power to Threaten Odium/Retribution. WaT Spoilers: Hope that helps.
  3. TOdium was very new to his Shard, unlikely to know Dawnshards were a thing and wasn't looking for Hidden Investiture - he was looking for something he could do that would not count as "harm" and was, therefore, not a breach of his Oath. As both Kelsier and Vin show in HoA/M:SH - being a Shard's Vessel does not mean you know everything - especially if you don't know you need to consider the information to learn the information. WoB: Taravangian was a very young Vessel in that scene. . .
  4. For the same reason that Vasher did not have Aura Recognition or Perfect Pitch in the Warbreaker Prologue - the method being used to Hide (Dawnshard for Hoid, Divine Breath for Vasher) means it is not available to facilitate Heightening effects while being hidden. Hope that helps
  5. Your signature looks fine on my display Cascading Style Sheet - the reference settings that define how HTML/XML are rendered and displayed (webpages, ebooks, etc.). Good free resource: W3 Schools CSS
  6. Please see: Important Reminder about Signatures - Yes, defined by a standard Computer resolution width, and it may reflow longer in reduced width. You can even test this on a computer, since the site uses adaptive CSS, so if you make your browser window narrow enough, the site will auto-change to Mobile display settings. Hope that helps
  7. Please see This request thread. Also, please note The Unpublished Content List It's from the RP section, where they serve Cookies with hidden Hemalurgic Spikes for recruitment Hope that helps
  8. Welcome to the Shard. I see you have made an Intro Post, please consider updating it to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter), so we can avoid spoilers, if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips (such as how to edit your posts). Yes. Kelsier's comments there were Brandon putting the first hints in-story for an old WoB: Hope that helps.
  9. Why not a "select all that apply" poll, or have a "no preference" selection. I enjoy Fantasy, Urban Fantasy and Sci-Fan. For me, it is much more important that the worldbuiling be well-done and the Magic be some flavor of Hard Fantasy (Magic A is Magic A) - not necessarily Sanderson-level hard Fantasy (few are), but at least not Undefined soft magic (LotR, First Law Trilogy). I'm fine with most time-periods/technology levels - but I will note that the Tolkien-esque ("Human-Dwarf-Elf") worldbuilding tends to be my least-favorite (e. g. did not care for Shannara much when I tried it - but that was long ago) unless there is a very different take on the setting (I did enjoy Age of Fire trilogy by E. E. Knight, despite the Human-Dwarf-Elf-Dragon setting because of how it was Dragon PoV and the worldbuilding was very well done).
  10. Based on what we know so far, you may simply be overthinking this. If Ferchemical Storage is an equation: T*P=I Time (T) * Percentage of Attribute (P) = Units of Stored Investiture (I) Then Ic = 10I Compounded Investiture (Ic) = 10 times the value of I Therefore, it can be Tapped/Used with any Time or Percentage Variable (it does not have to match the rate of storage nor the time of storage) Ic/P = T Ic/T = P So, if you are Tapping for a high percentage, the time using the Compounded Attribute is reduced (much like Feruchemical Compression of an attribute - you just have more Investiture from which to tap). You can also store the output of the Compounding into new metal minds and use it slowly, over a longer timeframe yeilding longer access to a lower Compounded percentage. Note: This is why Ruin was able to change the contents of a Coppermind - because Ati was making changes during the conversion process to or from storage (or both). WoB: Hope that helps
  11. @Trusk'our has already answered the most-likely scenarios, but I would like to point out one easily-forgotten foreshadowing: Hope that helps.
  12. It's Awakening, probably from Breath. We have not seen any other way to do that (that I remember) but Brandon does say that in the Cosmere, different magic systems can produce the same effects. There's probably another planet or a space station or something, somewhere, that has a magic system to move cloth around with Investiture. Xisis is a merchant. We see SPOILER FOR SP5, ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK We assume it was silent, but we do not know for certain. Warbreaker Spoilers. Hope that helps
  13. All and none. Like all Spiritwebs, it resides in the Spiritual Realm where neither Time nor Place matter. The difference being, that for normal Beings, only one Physical manifestation connects to their Spiritweb. Beings like Sleepless also have multiple physical manifesations connecting to the same spiritweb, and have a form of immortality in that the personality persists so long as a sufficent percentage of their Hordelings also survive. WoB: It doesn't make sense - to assemble enough of the relevant investiture to forcibly manifest a Physical Form, you would have destroyed yourself and your body in the process. WoB: Hope that helps
  14. Welcome to the Shard. Thank you for the Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read. Please consider showing up your brother and check out your T.O.s the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Closed book and Boldface test forthcoming. For example, you have posted this in: When this should be in: The description on the main forum page will tell you what type of posts belong in each section. For more info, please see the Sharder FAQ. Research: Knights Radiant Order Quiz What order did you get on the radiant quiz Have you ever switched radiant order ? What Order of Knight Radiant is your Favorite? Favourite Knights Radiant Order etc. Hope that helps
  15. Not correct, technically. Nightblood was patterned after the Honorblades, not Spren Shardblades. WoB: Hope that helps
  16. Please see the SHARDER FAQ for tips on Editing a post, and much more. Please use Cosmere terminology. An Avatar already has a definition - you trying to redefine it for your theory only causes misunderstandings and confusion. Also, you seem to be trying to use the word "mask" like a Physical Manifestation - except you are assigning attributes that do not actually apply, and ignoring the attributes that do apply. A Manifestation is a very small piece of a Shard's investiture used in the Cognitive or Physical Realm to interact with beings in those realms. It is not the Shard - it's not even the Vessel and it is not limited to a single instance (M:SH - Kelsier sees many copies of Fuzz - because Leras Manifested a different body to speak to each dead soul). Hope that helps.
  17. Common sentiments. Please see: I Hate Moash [Support] Moash and the fans who hate him Moash and Kaladin The great Moash controversy Moash's Point of No Return Moash redemption arc Would you kill Moash? Why do we debate Moash? etc. Hope that helps
  18. Please see this thread where the topic is discussed. Quoted from that thread: Hope that helps
  19. Y'all realize the OP left and has not yet returned since 19 August 25. There is no audience to convince, except each other. . .
  20. Understood. Though, that does not really fit the definition of "arbitrary" - at least not as I understand it. The foot being based on the Monarch's actual foot was arbitrary. But even the very first definition of the metre was not arbitrary: It may not be very accurate, nor based on physical constants. But all I was trying to point out is that "arbitrary" isn't really the correct word or connotation for what was being asked. It's a loaded political word with lots of baggage and implies things that are not, in fact, true. I have no problem with the thought exercise, itself. But using loaded phrases and misusing word definitions (especially in an appeal to scientific accuracy) does bother me, so I attempted sarcasm as a method of showing the inherent problem of misusing a word in a post about not misusing definitions of measurements. I'm sorry.
  21. That does not seem arbitrary to me. . .
  22. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. We don't know that they are Unsealed Metalminds - as they do not behave like Unsealed Metalminds we do know about. But, they are likely a derived Fabrial based on Unsealed Metalminds. That said, It is unlikely that they could be used to Steal a Radiant Bond, because it is not only about Connection - it's about Volition and Oaths. Spren always have a choice. WoBs (it's about Hemalurgy, but should apply the same): Hope that helps
  23. Technically, that's the Voidbinding Chart, but the Fused Surgebind. WoBs: Glyphs are a Vorin construction (or, rather, the religion that developed into modern Vorin), not a general Rosharan one. If the pre-Recreance Radiants used Glyphs for the Fused Brands, wo do not yet know about them. If the Fused have their own Singer-derived Symbology, we also do not yet have data on that either. Hope that helps
  24. Copy all, that makes sense. I interpreted it as the Spren in Shadesmar are the level of Sapience a Bonded Spren would become at Fifth Oath (their mind is fully able to access the Physical Realm) so i expected Spren based on the Cognitive Ideal imagined by Humans to be a general median of Roshar's human population and the primary differences to be culture and geography (such as the layout of Lasting Integrity). That said, we've only really seen Celebrant and Lasting Integrity - so one communal multi-Spren merchant area, and one specialized for Honorspren. I imagine if/when we ever get to see a city specialized for the other eight Radiant Spren, then we will see much more deviation from the median (not all Spren were as close to humans pre-Recreance as Honorspren were).
  25. Don't forget that Radiant Spren Sapience is directly tied to Oaths. For Example - Rua is still more like WoK Syl. I cannot tell, but it seems you are implying that all Radiant Spren have progressed as Syl has; when they are all different and should be judged as their own character in the story, not as just a blind lump group as if no differentiation exists. I will admit that the Bonded Spren we see most on-screen have progressed, because their Radiants and Oaths have also progressed.
