Not gonna do a crazy long new years post
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who put up with my random (possibly over enthusiastic) posts/chatting this year. I think this year has been subpar for everyone, so thanks for sticking with me through my 3 months of figuring out what is going on, then not shutting up. The Shard and everyone on it was a big pick-me-up during the depths of my winter depression and finals anxiety. I owe most every active member at least a bit of thanks for that.
As for tagging/specific shoutouts:
The cool ones know who they are
All members of the hat clan deserve their recognition from their supreme leader (I’m not tagging everyone, there’s like 30 of us)
Oh, @Treamayne thank you so so much for all your help with my research paper debacle. Don’t know where I (or my grade) would be without your expertise. I owe you, and I cannot thank you enough

No thanks necessary. It's just being a decent human in a digital world.
And if you beleive otherwise, simply pay it forward - be kind, courteous, and helpful to somebody esle reaching out for assistance.
In Korean, they say: Saehaebok Mahni badushipshiyeo (새해 복 많이 받으세요) for Happy New Year - but the literal translation that I prefer is: May you receive many New Year's blessings.

Hey just thought of a question:
If you could live on a cosmere planet which would it be?
(I'm music planet through and through)
-
To paraphrase pop culture - if you ever need more, there's a thread for that. . .

That's what you said last time
Synopsis:
SpoilerThe series follows the adventures of three dragon siblings. All having hatched from a clutch of five eggs carefully protected by the female dragon Irelia and her mate, bronze AuRel, the young dragons quickly establish themselves into distinct roles. Upon hatching, the males of the clutch are instinctively driven to fight each other to the death, which leads to the death of a Red hatchling, while the Copper suffers a crippled leg and must live as an outcast, leaving grey Auron to dwell with his two sisters under the protection of their parents.
Dragon Champion (Book 1)
Perspective: AuRonDragon Champion follows AuRon (Auron), the youngest male and clutchwinner. After being separated from Wistala, he is captured and sold to humans buying dragon hatchlings. He escapes and sets forth to seek the dragon NooMoahk because of a rumour that the ancient black knows the secret of dragonkind's supposed fatal weakness. Along the way he encounters many friends and future allies. . .

The referenced converation is here.
PS - @CoderDrag0n8: You ever check out that Age of Fire trilogy?

me and my science teacher who read the first mistborn book (i keep telling her to read the next ones but she's like "im busy and you're about to be late to your next class) and we were talking about the mist and gasses and we were like "is it a gas??? or is it a living organism because its sentient????" and then she was like "wait does it have cells" and anyways does it have cells y'all does the mist have cells
-
In real life, matter and energy are the same (e=mc^2 being the conversion formula of matter into energy) and convert into each other (e. g. burning a wood chip converts the wood into light, heat, and ash). In the Cosmere there is a third axis to this - Investiture.
In the Physical Realm, investiture can mimic energy and matter states, but it can also be pulled fully into the physical realm and become matter or energy. Examples:
- The Well is investiture mimicking a liquid state
-
Mist is investiture mimicking a gaseous state
- Which is why it becomes less opaque burning Tin - investiure reacting to use of investiture
-
Shardblades are investiture (spren) becoming a physical matter state
- Note the condensate when deposition causes the gasous form pulled from the cognitive to turn directly into metal without an intervening liquid form
- Stormlight becomes light while in a gem and freely mimics a gaseous state when not in a physical vessel
WoB:
QuoteKurkistan
If Investiture can neither be created nor destroyed, and Feruchemy is all fueled by the Feruchemist himself, then how do metalminds end up being invested without Feruchemists seeming to suffer any long-term loss of Investiture? If they're not "creating" the energy that's going into the metalminds, then where's it coming from?
Brandon Sanderson
The cosmere takes physics from our universe, and adds additional layers to it. Where we have energy and matter (simplified), the cosmere has additional building blocks that make reality. Investiture is one of these. It IS possible to change matter, to energy, to investiture, and back.
A science teacher could get a lot of mileage teaching states of matter, conversion (phase transition), physics equations for movement (like this post), etc. just by exploring the facets of the stories.
Hope that helps

Wow, it is whiplash looking back on my Mistborn posts from 2023. I was a child when it came to knowledge of the Cosmere and Shards

-
Hi I'm Molly! I love the cosmere and all it encompasses. I'm currently up to date with the exception of white sand and am waiting patiently for the release of stormlight 5!
-
Welcome to the Shard. Waiting patiently. . . you must be stronger than most of us.
You may want to check out this thread about White Sand, espcially if the reason you have not checked it out is due to either availability or because you are not a fan of the Graphic Novel format.

Hey y'all! It's my Shardiversary today(has it really been a year?)! And I just wanted to say y'all have been awesome!
First, I'm going to mention someone that I don't really know, but that I admire, and that's @Treamayne My friend, you always are so painstaking in answering all the theories and you always put so much time, thought and effort in answering and citing everything. Go you! Sorry if this is random.
Next up is @Shining Silhouette. You're so friendly and SO AMAZING at piano. You are one of the first people who comes to mind when I think of cool Sharders. I'm not good at articulating my thoughts, so this won't be very eloquent, but just know that y'all are all awesome, not proportionally to how much I say about you.
@CalanoCorvus, you're such a good writer and are so friendly and cool to hang out with. Thanks for reading my story!
@The Wandering Wizard, you're such a cool dude. Your wisdom and randomness are so much fun.
@Cinnamon, you are so sweet and so much fun to be around! Go you. And thanks for all your feedback on The Night's Broken Daughter.
@Shadowed, continue being awesome, because you already are! But keep doing it! Thanks to you too with your help on TNBD.
@Robin Sedai, you are kind and awesome and also articulate. Good job!Sorry this has been really short and I KNOW I'm forgetting some people. But if I don't post this now, I never will.

Thank you for the shout out. I hadn't realized I'd made such an impression SFKA Shallan Stormblessed. I just try to be helpful since having Calibre makes it easy for me to look up quotes from the eBooks, and I know not everybody has that kind of access.
PS: How's that friend's journey through Stormlight Archive. Did they continue after Way of Kings?
