    Actually I'm not sure it's been confirmed that the first part refers to the name Topaz. The wording doesn't seem to match that interpretation.

    Yeah that's one of the things I think may link the stone with the Aether of Night. Just a feeling more than anything.

    I don't see a problem with it. If you want equality in storytelling you have to have weak characters as well as strong characters and if there are no weak female characters it's pretty unrealistic. As long as you don't present it as an archetype for all females you should be good.

    So I know this is wild speculation, but has anyone ever considered that the black gemstone is actually the titular Aether of Night? Not much is certain as to how much of that book will be canon, and the description of the stone sure seems to fit with just the name itself...

    I've had a half formed theory in my brain about Aethers and their importance/involvement in the pre-shattering cosmere, especially concerning Hoid. I'm really curious to see if what I think is going to pan out pans out.

    I guess that's pretty similar to stress leave, which people where I work have gotten away with.

    My only issue comes from the wording of the WOB. Just losing the gemstone or some magical abilities to me doesn't really constitute "no longer exists in the same form". To me that sounds more drastic and fundamental.
