  1. The full might of Roshar is utterly hypothetical. The full might of Scadrial is current. If you want to use historical mights and guess what Roshar might have available in terms of Radiants, Scadrial get the Lord Ruler, and win pretty much straight away
  2. Basically, you should have to prove that you have read the books with all the involved characters in (via writing an essay) to ensure you can judge the contest in an informed way before you are allowed to vote.
  3. Yeah the whole argument works on the fallacy that everything follows human logic and the pattern of cause-effect that we have been programmed to perceive and would never be able to perceive if things did not follow this pattern.
  4. Other skaa like Camon knew that it was something a skaa could have, and Reen knew that Vin was only half-skaa and even made a point to tell her this, but I get your point
  5. Also, being Mistborn seems to automatically instil grace, based on Vin's thoughts when dancing with Elend in HoA
  6. THought it was dodgy from early on, when you find out about all the spikes an Inquisitor has. Once we found out about the Koloss spikes, I was sure it was similar and once we found out about Haemalurgy properly I thought it must be a Spike
  7. Did Reen beat Vin because he didn't know she had Snapped/she hadn't Snapped but he thought she might be an Allomancer given her parentage and thus wanted to try to bring her powers out so she had a way to survive when he was no longer there?
  8. Yeah, but let's take Vin for example: she had significant trauma through her entire childhood, some clearly enough to Snap her (question: did Reen beat her to Snap her and thus give her the tools to protect herself if he left? Anyone asked Brandon this? Or did she Snap long before this, given that Sazed thinks she may have drawn in Mists when younger - but I suppose even then Reen might not know this and beat her for the aforementioned reason anyway) and then had Investiture from Preservation fill this in. But there's no evidence that further trauma allows more Preservation coloured Investiture to come in and presumably boost their Allomancy (we surely would have seen this?) and Vin definitely receives significant further psychological and physical trauma. Does this leave new cracks that Preservation can't fill but another colour of Investiture could? Or is cracked a binary state?
  9. Only if they are physiologically similar enough! They are physically less identifiably human than the people of Scadrial, for example
  10. Why isn't Doors of Stone out yet?!

  11. Just as a side point, the setting of Mistborn, though unlike true Dystopian fiction it gets better (after getting worse) is pretty Dystopian!
  12. Pretty sure we do know, I'm looking for a WoB but at the very least Leras and Ati leave human bodies so they were in human form at some point Edit: found it - it implies that some might not have been human but I'm pretty sure that Leras and Ati were human Quote
  13. With the slight variation from what we would recognise as humans on Roshar, who knows?
  14. I think you may have mixed up Obligators and Inquisitors? I could be wrong though
  15. I think this is at least partially because he writes so fascinatingly about faith and divinity on different levels, with characters that fit the whole range of the spectrum.
  16. Pretty sure Radiants can't possibly be TOO shiny
  17. 15 years, isn't it?
  18. I'm seen someone else suggest that he might harvest his own children for spikes :/
  19. Rothfuss' quality of prose is probably the best I have read from a modern fantasy author (maybe Wolfe, if he counts). His descriptive word is gorgeous
  20. I'm an apathetic agnostic - I don't think we can know whether God exists or not, if we did think so I think it would be objectively difficult to justify picking one faith over another (and selecting faiths based on the appeal of what they say is noble but more treating them like a philosophy), my own vague opinion on whether there is a God or not tends to lean to the atheistic side but occasionally moves and sometimes into moments of thinking he could be there, I think the questions as to what God's nature is/would be like are more interesting than the mere fact of his existence but most of all I don't think it matters: A benevolent, fair God would judge us based on our actions and intentions rather than following a strict plan that has been written in many subtly and less subtly unreconcilable ways, judge based on merit having given us the tools of logic and conscience. A God that would punish arbitrarily and fixate on worship is not one I have any interest in spending eternity with and appeasing him just because he has infinite power to punish me would seem, to my own morality (not making judgments about anyone else's) to be moral cowardice My girlfriend (and more so her family) however is Catholic, and I was once relatively religious. I find faith fascinating
  21. I'm not sure, unless Brandon has said otherwise, that Cultivation does clash so much with Preservation. Change is not inherent in the meaning of Cultivation - it can refer to the growth of new living things and ideas and skills but also to the maintenance of them and making sure things flourish. I'd say that Cultivation is an even more perfect opposite to Ruin than Preservation is and has a decent cross-over with Preservation, even if one is static and the other is dynamic
  22. It was incredible. Worried about Second Season syndrome but it managed to continue to be everything I wanted from my favourite superhero on the screen and everything that the Affleck version was not
  23. Fair enough, thought there was a WoB about that, but just seen the annotated version and it agreed with what you say so that's canon
  24. Thinking about the interference between different Intents colouring Investiture, I guess it depends largely on the Opposition of those Intents? So Cultivation and Preservation would mix more easily than say Preservation and Honor, and much more easily than Honor and Dominion, for example? Or am I making too many assumptions?
