  1. 1) Lerasium that Hoid got after Vin released the Well of Ascension's power. 2) he did write the letter 3) they might have more uses we haven't seen, it may be their rarity or the fact they would have been more useful in the past and this had been remembered in tradition even if the reason for it hasn't 4) Dalinar kicked him in the chest and he was remembering that and that brought back the focus on his chest and likely some pain and thus a subconscious reaction Oversleep, on 13 Apr 2016 - 10:32 PM, said: Also, doesn't Vin use it on Marsh near the end of HoA?
  2. The Well of Ascension wasn't the whole Shard or even most of it, was it? Just enough to affect the whole world and to become a Sliver
  3. I was torn between Cumberbatch and Hiddlestone for TLR. I would be very happy with reversing my roles for them. I would also consider NCW as Kelsier, but then I need to find another Marsh and I really like Mark Strong as Marsh
  4. Thanks for the replies guys. Just to note, whilst Leras/Preservation is connected to Allomancy and demonstrably has some control over the way it works, as now does Harmony, I don't believe that he "invented" it. I thought all the magic systems could exist due to interactions between Shards and natural focus/investiture of the planet, over which the Shards have only limited access?
  5. Depending how instant the heat transfer is (does it go from immediate body contact to the Metalmind or does it have to be in contact with your body directly for a moment of time) there may or may not be radiation burning and severe skin damage. But it's really impossible to say
  6. Yes. Most of the damage from burns is not due to damage by raising body temperature! It's direct damage. Light radiation. Oxidation.
  7. If we can pick pre-Splinter Vin, she's second pick after TenSoon
  8. Yeah but then the external heat can still harm you. And the metal minds would only really be useful if you stopped being able to thermoregulate. It wouldn't really be useful for other people, certainly
  9. Ah, the way Brandon explains what is happening there is the opposite to the explanation he gives a sentence before His explanation would NOT make them immune to harm from fire or even really any external temperature and doesn't really make much sense. Or it does make sense but they are essentially useless
  10. I'm not sure it could realistically be used for this survival of others then- for firesouls to radiate heat to help
  11. The body not being broken at 98F in a firesoul is a necessary secondary power- in order to function at a level that makes the power in anyway useful, you have to assume that their body can work above that temperature and I thought it was confirmed that it did? Different temperatures in different parts of the body generally relies on the variable surface area (non-existent in the internal organs), blood flow, make up of blood vasculature, a small amount of highly regulated global metabolism, different amounts of insulation from various layers etc. With very large temperatures, it would be very hard to use these mechanisms to make one part of the body warmer than others and keep them that way, except that as always the more internal parts will be somewhat warmer than the external parts and extremities cooler again. My physics is all a-level and then personal interest knowledge. However, I am a clinical doctor, so my biology may be of help! Basically though, you have to assume that Feruchemy breaks the rules a bit to work at all, and the 98F (which isn't really the figure things stop working at all, you can function fine with that core temperature and a fair bit higher) is one of these rules that Feruchemy would realistically break in some way, for Brass to really be of any use
  12. Wax as a Twinborn with detective skills, a quick thinker and an incredible shot walks into the team. Jasnah and Shallan both have very useful skills, but especially Jasnah. Definitely TenSoon.
  13. I need this
  14. There would definitely be problems and indirect damage, and the metalminds would be one of those, as would breathing and hydration. But not direct damage. ANd in that room, heat would leak out so it SHOULD never reach the point of homeostasis
  15. But if your hands are the source of heat for the other person's skin/the air/whatever, you CANNOT according to the Laws of Physics be damaged directly by it, because the heat cannot transfer back towards you. Heat cannot move to something hotter, and your body is de facto hotter than what it is heating, so even if they would be hot enough to kill you, they cannot because the heat cannot go towards you.
  16. Or it can be manipulated by the user, who has to consciously decide what the "lucky outcome" is? Think he's been inspired by Matrim Cauthon on this particular ability, though probably less OP than that. Khriss thinks it is Luck that is stored, right? But apparently, she can be wrong, think yhere is a WOB on that to be fair Would it, technically? If the air were ablaze, you would get the chemical reactions that high temp oxygen has and this could cause harm. If it's merely very hot (and hot enough to burn skin doesn't need to be that hot), then all you have is hot air rather than oxidation reactions. The only way this is causing harm is by transfer of heat. The air can only transfer heat to something less hot. By definition the fire soul is more hot than the air, in order to heat it (plus the hot air rises and thus the air around the fire soul is constantly replaced by cooler air). The hot air cannot pass heat towards the firesoul to cause harm until the firesoul starts to cool. As long as he doesn't do this, no external heat could possibly harm him, only the indirect reactions of external heat. The only thing that I can see being an issue is 1) dehydration- depending how the body reacts to the power this could be a limiter 2) cooling the firesoul too quickly- if they don't cool VERY gradually, as the air around them rises away, they could be burnt by the air Though to be fair, it's been a while since Physics has been something I do properly, so it's possible that I might have misapplied the Laws of Thermodynamics. If I have, or someone thinks I have, I'm sorry
  17. Logically would she be able to access the essence of Preservation though? As a previous Vessel/Sliver depending when this is? And thus channel the mists as she has an inherent link now? Anyway, still think it's the killer instinct that will shape the winner rather than the power. The power is all very debatable depending on the exact set up and we haven't really seen much inter-investiture interaction to judge how people from different worlds match up. The willingness and innate skill to kill would be more consistent, as would the pragmatism of certain characters.
  18. Vin has been Preservation, as a Sliver who knows what she can do?
  19. Don't know about that, Vin lent Mist power to Elend (though a limited amount) in HoA when she was Preservation. Also, if Saze is in the fight and not Harmony, it's very up in the air what is happening with that Shard As for the Sel problem, doesn't SH imply that they might be able to move the Dor or something?
  20. Personally I think that Vin, if born on Roshar, would have been a Windrunner, but I suppose that doesn't really matter as the Blade doesn't rely on an Honorspren Nahel Bond I'd say items have tp be brought along, unless you want unarmed combat, and the items we have mentioned are all an integral part of the characters' "kits". Ditto all have access to all magic systems they would usually have access to. Bonds with Spren included. The mists aren't an entity but whilst I can see a location in which all the magics worked, I think the fight would have t literally be on Scadrial to use the mists
  21. Tricky to resource it, but A Atium and F Steel. Future sight allows you to minimalise use of speed and Speed allows to minimalise use of Atium, even if they burn Atium too you can move too fast for them to react for one instant. Marsh and TLR both underused this combo
  22. And another relatively small amount was enough to make Ruin- Marsh flee from her in HoA. Still, hard call. If Marsh has speed stored up and uses it to KO Vasher and take Nightblood, would his Feruchemy fuel using it? What's its rate of non-Endowment Investiture use? Do the other combatants need a connection to Honor/Roshar to use the Honorblade when they kill Szeth?
  23. I thought Vin initially using the Mists was pre-Ascension of any sort? Also, does she/Marsh get any Atium?
  24. I have a theory that sometime in Era 3 Mistborn (what was going to be Era 2 but has been moved up after W&W), or maybe the Lost Metal or Era 4, another Shard will try to lead a direct attack on Scadrial, sending an agent protected with their power in some way and capable of beating the basic human helpers Harmony has. They will be sent to unbalance Harmony by trying to basically force his remaining excess Ruin into him, causing him to break up into separate Intents, which I could see happening in the Lost Metal if that references Atium. The human helpers and Marsh will try to hold them off for a while, and just need to do it long enough for Harmony to ask Vin, whom he can contact across the Beyond apparently and couldn't bring back - at the time of HoA- and ask if she will come out of retirement to help an old friend (him). TenSoon will then take up Vin's bones and shape her body with her advice, as Sanderson has hinted that Vin can contact TenSoon too, create a Vin Avatar and then have the mental link that they already have due to Vin bodyjacking TenSoon before to let Vin take control of the avatar as a Harmony-Mist-fuelled, Fullborn Kandra Vin. Curbstomping of invading agent ensues, before she has a brief conversation with the new humans helping Harmony and then returns back Beyond to Elend. This may be wistful thinking
