  1. Thanks I just felt, amongst other things, there were some valid criticisms of the Vin - Elend relationship (and less valid ones), that I wanted to try to address. Some have said that it lacks passion, and I think this is very explainable by putting oneself in the mind of these characters at the time of WoA, as is the chasteness of their relationship, but someone did validly point out that the implied post-coitus reaction after they leave Luthadel came across as a bit of a cop out which I felt deserved some addressing in backstory as well as other things
  2. Trenches in the first one. Second one, the Germans changed the rules, and there was fairly little open warfare, as I recall, depending on to which front we are referring (jungle warfare in the East, quite a bit of urban stuff in the west)Also, logically, the average psychology towards killing people has logically changed a lot now from when ethics were entirely different and war was a constant reality at even a local level: we have more regard for human life now that at any point in history, I think. This probably actually favours the Alethi Shardbearers though as whoever is shooting at them would seem to be more bothered about killing than their militaristic society constantly at war (albeit clumsily) and driven by the Thrill
  3. If the Parshendi are counted, despite being the enemies of the Alethi and thus more likely to side with Roshar, wouldn't The Southerners be counted?

    MV6 Vin And Elend

    Amazing
  5. I know that this site here is a sexual content (inc links) free zone and for good reason, but does anyone know what Sanderson's viewpoint on Fanfic with sexual content (as well as story exploration and sticking to canon situations) in general on other sites? In my opinion there's a good reason to write this one, and I think I've written it well but wouldn't want to go against the author's wishes so will delete if he would not approve.
  6. you can technically sense either with Bronze, I think?
  7. I second Anathem, and the Cryptonomicron
  8. The A Word, a BBC drama (2 episodes so far) about a family whose 5 year old son gets diagnosed on the autistic spectrum disorder. So far, it's intense
  9. It also assumes Vasher is team Roshar, which I admit I think he probably would be based on him aiding the Kholins as far as I can tell voluntarily But I think the biggest risk of using Nightblood vs TLR is that he has enough Investiture to survive Nightblood being thrown at him for a while, then takes it for himself
  10. You assume Vasher can make another Nightblood a) at all without a vast vast vast amount of Investiture c) on Roshar and d) without the large amount of help he had before
  11. Not sure amount of Investiture is the sole thing determining lethality: Nightblood is very powerful but pretty much indiscriminating in this, and hard to use, with no allegiance to Roshar itself, unlike the Bands which the user is in control of.
  12. Could always have a Lord Ruler card: "You win"
  13. Good point though I think Atium Mistings would be able to perceive the actions in the Cognitive, no? Isn't that how it works? Also, liquid and solid are inverted in Shadesmar- would the Radiants even be able to do this?! Unless it were a naval battle, wouldn't they be drowning in the battlefield?
  14. From the 2 uses of Elsecalling we have seen, it doesn't appear quite as easy as all that. It could just be that Jasnah is really bad at it, but as she's been a proto-Radiant for a few years, I'd have hoped she'd experimented a bit! If they had the Stormlight to do it and got within range, the Soulcasting could have a big impact, but only against the non-Allomancers. And woe betide Roshar if Scadrial get their hands on a Soulcaster or 10...
  15. Another side point, entirely supposition, based on another thread I started because I asked myself this very question. Say Vin is on Roshar. Would spren, you think, consider bonding her? Would they care about sides in this war? I think that certain Allomancers would be candidates for Radiancy and would be able to be bonded given their cracked souls and continued trauma, but I do suspect in this very hypothetical situation the Spren would side with their Shard and planet and thus not bond Allomancers. It does make an interesting extra angle, though. Rosharians could spike themselves, if they learnt how, though that might just allow Harmony to control them (if they went for more than 1). They would also be able to use the medallions if they captured one And yep, it's a WOT reference and my old Wotmania name for anyone who was once on there.
  16. Important question: healing comparison of Stormlight (normal Stormlight, not regrowth) vs Ferruchemical gold. We know compounding gold can protect you from ANY injury (see Miles, see TLR surviving beheadings, multiple) and pretty amazing healing when just used without compounding (see Inquisitors healing). We know Stormlight can heal severe wounds, and that swearing a new Oath gives a super boost that healed a very badly hurt, even dying, Kaladin. We know Stormlight can heal Shardblade injuries. Can Gold heal the same?
  17. That doesn't sound all that unlikely really, Sanderson writes outside of his own religious perspective in my opinion and I've read weirder Fantasy
  18. Someone needs to create a Real Time Strategy game- Stormlight vs Mistborn- to let us experiment properly in canon settings. Please get on it, computer game companies
  19. It would be when Wax was born, around 10-20 Years old, so they very very likely have guns, though
  20. Shardbearers would destroy Koloss, though eventually get overrun. Koloss are bad at fighting in a unit though, although Inquisitors with doubled emotional Allomancy might get them to do it. Mistborn assassins would play a big part too- Szeth alone is definitely more dangerous than a Mistborn who isn't a main character, but he made Shards, leaders, soldiers all look utterly hopeless. A bunch of Mistborn would do a lot of damage off the battle field never mind on it. And then assassinate a leader, replace him with a Kandra and watch the Rosharian effort collapse
  21. War on his planet might be one of the few things that allows Harmony to match his two halves perfectly- it's acting together in everyone's best interest in tandem (Harmony), for the Preservation of his people and the Ruin of theirs.
  22. The former is one sided towards Scadrial, the latter is impossible to consider as we have no idea what Roshar will look like after it gets whacked hard by a Desolation it is in no way prepared for, and even then I think it's hard to imagine a set up that sees Roshar getting close to a win. The last option, once again hypothetical as we have no idea what either side looks like...
  23. Unless you think SA part 2 is going to be barely surviving in a post apocalyptic wasteland post the release of Odium, which seems to me to be the most likely possibility. I think Scadrial cake-walk both scenarios. I think 1000 Radiants vs a prepared LR is still a curb-stomping
  24. You're making up a hypothetical scenario that isn't either the current lineup between the two worlds, or the world's at their greatest. You're making wild guesses as to what the future of Roshar will be, and then assumptions (that I think are unfounded) about their scientific capability to reverse engineer in a world that has from what we have seen very little in terms of complex mechanics and no knowledge of gunpowder itself. Personally, I think after Stormlight 5, the popular of Roshar will be in pieces and their world at the very brink of utter destruction And you've just invented some Fabrials! You are far more optimistic about the future of Roshar than I can be, I think they are barely getting out of their own series in a functional state- much like Scadrial
  25. You can only make the war winnable by Roshar by skewing the terms in their favour and even then guessing as to what they could do. Any concrete comparison, to me at least, comes out brutally one sided
