[OB] The sudden ease of becoming a radiant
Toaster Retribution replied to borg's topic in Stormlight Archive
Lopens stuff seems like too much comedy for me. His spren felt kind of irritating, and while his "becoming Radiant scene" was funny, it felt a bit too jokey for my tastes. He doesn't really feel like a leader either. -
Time to get an Assassin in White, I think.

So people should post here in order to get their avatar/sig upvoted? Is that the idea @podman36?

[OB] Adolin-Shallan-Kaladin Discussion
Toaster Retribution replied to Harbour's topic in Stormlight Archive
I can stand Amaram dying. I can stand Elhokar dying. I can stand Eshonai dying. I cannot stand Pattern dying. -
I read the title and for one second thought that it had something to do with me... dunno what that says about me as a person :-D

I'm on it, whenever he gets here. -
Part of me wants to jump onto the "I don´t touch shipping threads" bandwagon (and I don´t, at least not very much), but I won´t do that, because I have made a few posts on those threads. I am not generally a shipping guy though. But as long as it has relevance to people, which the shipping stuff apparently has, it should be discussed. One thing I do dislike though, is "Character X will be brought back to life" or "Is Character X really dead". Mostly because I want Odium to win prefer stories where characters stay dead. So I am with @RShara on her big NO to Eshonai=Timbre. I wish I could get to one of the Eshonai=Timbre posts before her to voice my discontent, but she is always there before me.

Oathbringer is wierd. Some stuff, like the arcs of Dalinar, Kaladin and Elhokar, were great in both concept and execution. The climax of Part 3 ranks among the best Brandon climaxes, for me. Some things at the ending climax is awesome too. Some of the flashbacks were really powerful. Rocks chapter was beautiful. A bunch of the Taravangian-Dalinar scenes are masterpieces. Pattern is unbelievably funny. Odium is a great villain. Taln had two lines and became a fan-favorite. Some stuff are pretty great in concept, but not in execution. Amaram, for example. The Venli and Moash chapters felt a bit like a drag too, but there is great stuff in there. And Shallan... she is confusing. Adolin is a mixed bag. And some of it are things I don´t like. Things I disagree with. Choices I wouldn´t have made. Amaram can probably go in here as well. Aesudan too. Some parts of Adolins arc and story too. Some minor characters get very little screen-time. Mraize and Vasher hardly makes appearances, Iyatil isn´t even in the book. Bridge Four gets a lot of focus. Lift... she is a bit much at times. In the end, I like Oathbringer. I prefer it over WoK, which is a little slow for my taste, but I do think WoR is a better book. Oathbringer is simply wierd, because there is a lot that worked much better than in previous books (I think Kaladins story here is better than his previous arcs, same for Dalinar) and also stuff that didn´t really work as a lot of people wanted them too (Amaram, Adolin). I feel like this post sounds pretty negative, so I´ll just add a note here that says I really do love the book, and SA, and Brandon and his work. EDIT: On another note, for some reason I found @JoyBlus entire post really nice, and kinda beautiful. Good post, mate.

(OB) Most Disliked Stormlight Character
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don´t really agree with this sentiment. Amaram suffers from too little on-screen development, which is why he seems bland, or in this case, inconsistent. But his goal in WoK is basically bringing the Heralds back through causing a Desolation, and gather the power necessary to beat the Voidbringers that will come with aforementioned Desolation. In WoR, his goal is the exact same one. In OB, it starts that way, but he finally breaks from his own guilt (and the hate he receives from others). he joins Odium when he learns that his religion, which his goals were built upon, was a lie. In order to escape the guilt (and to gain power/glory, which he has always wanted as well), he joins Odium. This isn´t really inconsistent, but can be seen that way because of bad on-screen development. Had Brandon added a little Amaram POV to the book (I think that one scene of him realizing the truth about Vorin faith and breaking down would be enough, actually), it would have been so much better. I like the idea Brandon had for Amaram in this book, but the execution was kinda bad (unusual for Brandon, but I guess it happens to everyone). Personally, I say he could have cut one of the Bridge Four/Moash chapters, or shortened some of Shallans or Kaladins bits to add in an Amaram scene or two. In the end, I think Amaram, and the book, would have been stronger for it. -
poll Favorite Shard Weapon
Toaster Retribution replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hard... I like a lot of them, but either I go Aquaman with the trident, or I join @The One Who Connects in axing people. The fact that I live in Scandinavia, which means vikings, which means axes, means that I go axe. Shard-vikings! -
Do they have Ikea on Scadrial though? They might...

I hear a lot of people hating on it, and I don't get it. Seen 3 eps so far, and I think its great. The story is interesting, they have some good characters, and the fight scenes are not too bad. Care to elaborate on why you don't like it?
