  1. So, did anyone else get the sense that the writing quality wasn't up to standard? I got the feeling I was reading a Rithmatist/Reckoners book, not a Stormlight book. Small sample size, obviously.
  2. Not to mention Brandon hasn't even read ASOIAF, doesn't want to, and their writing styles are totally different.
  3. Really? Brandon wouldn't write about gratuitous violence? Did we just read the same three chapters?
  4. So, I'm sure this is impossible and crazy and ridiculous, but my initial thought on the identity of the champion was... Gavilar. I don't know, something about how the prologue read, how much Gavilar knew that we didn't know he knew, something about the way he died, something about all those events made me connect those ideas in my head even though everything we know says it's impossible.
  5. I really like how this serializes the novel (well, the first 300 pages, at least). Looking forward to these threads over the next few months
  6. Extremely disappointed. I mean, I'm glad we got something rather than nothing, and I'm glad Brandon can spend more time on Stormlight and the rest of the Cosmere, but this is simply not up to par with Brandon's novels.
  7. Haha, I totally missed the connection to the WoR quote. That's great.
  8. Absolutely agree with this. Honestly, the way WoK and WoR have set up SA3, I don't think I can be disappointed here. We all know Sanderson pumps out quality like it's going out of style, and all the threads left dangling from the first two books make this so incredibly juicy before the first word is even read. Edgedancer just made the wait that much worse, IMO. I am anticipating this book something fierce.
  9. First time I've ever used negative rep on here. Get over yourself.
  10. Are the back-of-the-book blurbs in the eBooks? I think I've missed them...
  11. Would you prefer Pancakefullness?
  12. My thoughts before I read anyone else's: Thought it started off a little slow (I think reading something entirely in Lift-prose is just kind of a strange departure from Sanderson's usual stuff), but once it picked up it REALLY pulled me in. Really enjoyed the character development in Lift, Wyndle, and Nale, and this has me absolutely SALIVATING for Oathbreaker. Also loved the too-short appearance of Szeth and Nightblood.
  13. Man, I started in on a lengthy list, but it's a lot easier to just say 'everything'. I just finished a Words of Radiance re-read and I'm itching for the next installment. It's hard to imagine this series getting much more epic and we're only through 2 of 10!
  14. Not really sure where to put this, but I am the kind of person who absolutely loves finding additional details or nuance in a re-read. For me, re-reads are often much more exciting than the first read. I'm currently re-reading Words of Radiance and just came across a part that could potentially be taken to be something drastically different than the way I read it as the first time. At the very beginning of chapter 51: Adolin goes on to confront his father and insist that Dalinar doesn't go out onto the Plains to meet with the Parshendi. On the surface, this seems to be the "other decision". But could there be a deeper subtext here? This chapter immediately follows the Adolin POV chapter where Adolin and Shallan have their Highstorm balcony date. After the Highstorm hits, Adolin is confronted by Sadeas in the bunker. During the particularly vitriolic encounter, Adolin displays even more direct hatred toward Sadeas than usual. He even has the thought of killing Sadeas right then and there, but his inner monologue rationalizes non-action because killing Sadeas would "undermine the very laws and codes Adolin's father was working so hard to uphold". Could the "other decision" quoted above have a deeper meaning? Could Adolin have decided right then and there that if he cornered Sadeas he would, in fact, kill him? _________________ Also, is there an area anywhere on the forums where people can simply post things like this? Something like a "Things I just noticed for the first time" thread? Because I think a thread like that would be cool, but the only Cosmere-wide forum is the Q&A forum, and it doesn't make sense to put it there.
  15. Uh... should I be calling a lawyer?
  16. Man, I really need to get to my re-read of the Wax and Wayne books. It definitely makes sense that the Set would be bigger than Scadrial, but I'd never really put that together until reading this.
  17. Oh, I saw your post count and read it as if it just happened. Haha. Very cool to hear, though.
  18. Welcome to the Cosmere. Buckle up, you're going to love the next 4-6 months of your life.
  19. Thanks for the info. Where does one go about finding information like that? I mostly just keep up with the progress bar on his site.
  20. 71%!!
  21. Man, looking back on this thread is kind of depressing. We know Brandon has said he'd like to put out a Stormlight book every other year, but the reality is dates keep getting pushed back and there is actually about 3.5 years between books. Obviously he puts out a lot of stuff besides Stormlight and it's hard to complain about his output, but 3.5 years per Stormlight book puts the entire Cosmere arc at: Fall 2017: Oathbringer Spring 2021: Stormlight #4 Fall 2024: Stormlight #5 Spring 2028: Stormlight #6 Fall 2031: Stormlight #7 Spring 2035: Stormlight #8 Fall 2038: Stormlight #9 Spring 2041: Stormlight #10 Then, after Stormlight, you have the Dragonsteel series and Mistborn Era 4 (at least) before the Cosmere is wrapped up - which is probably another decade of writing. That means we're looking at 2050-ish for an end date, and I still feel like I'm being conservative. Brandon would turn 75 in 2050. I'm really starting to question whether the scope of this whole thing is too big even for Brandon's writing pace. I mean, I'd love to be proven wrong and see him start putting out Stormlight books every two years, I just don't really think that's going to be realistic from what we've seen so far.
  22. Thanks for the responses, guys. Very helpful.
  23. Hey guys, really stupid question (and I haven't read WoR for awhile so I could be missing a detail that answers my question for me): Are we sure that Adolin gets caught? They were in a relatively isolated spot in a place they'd never been to before. Is it possible Adolin could literally get away with murder here?
  24. Warbreaker is hands down my favorite Sanderson book and a large part of the reason why is there are so many awesome characters. Lightsong, Siri, Vasher, Nightblood, Vivenna, Susebron... they are all amazing characters. I honestly don't think I can pick a favorite.
