Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Oversleep replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Does anybody know Brandon's mail address? He told us to mail him so he could put up links to our fansite on his page but I can't find his mail save for the "contact form" on his page. -

There are multiple recordings of the Q&A and I have already told some of the people who did the record my mail, so I expect to have them. Actually the question about Listeners spiked with Feruchemical nicrosil being able to store the spren and then bond another one and then being able to swap was not the first one. It was like fifth? I asked that and earned my third RAFO. The signing line... I'm not really pleased with how it turned out, we were planning to leave a recording device on the table but it turned out the interview from Friday took all our space. So I and @Kanrei entrusted our belongings to some people we kinda knew from the fandom and went to stand by the signing table. I were writing down everything interesting (but it's not verbatim) and Kanrei was recording it although I don't know how the quality of the recording will turn out. I want to cross reference my notes with his recording and his notes before I post all of it (my notes are very bullet point and I've got terrible handwriting and I was writing midair...). Things I'm fairly sure about will be below. The signing took 4 and half hours. After the queue ended I and few other people stayed to ask some more (I got two questions in, the mixed Investiture people and BoM questions) and we all were given Syl sticker. That probably is the most precious thing I got from this event Anyway, the event was cool, even before it started Brandon recognized me in the crowd which was totally awesome, I waved back I asked some questions. Note they are NOT VERBATIM but should be close enough. Q: Allomantic strength. There are stronger Allomancers, they can burn metals faster, right? A: Yes, they can also squeeze more power out of it. They can use it more efficiently. Q: So there is some loss of power along the way? How do savants work into that? A: Savants can use it way more efficiently. He also said they are more Connected to the Shard. (So savants do increase their Connection to Preservation) I asked whether we could call Bands of Mourning the Survivor's Spearhead and whether it did have all 16 basic metal metalminds. He hesitated a little but eventually said yes, there were all 16 metalminds. I asked whether Marasi tapped all of them, because she would tap Kelsier's Identity and memories and he said intentions are important and she didn't tap all of them. I asked about Radiant Surgebinder who would tap his Connection to the spren and would he be able to summon Shardblade even at First Ideal? He said it's possible but spren wouldn't like it. IIRC he said something about increasing flow of power (???) - my memory is not that good, sorry. Q: Back in Mistborn Marsh said that there is a pattern for higher metals. So that would mean that atium and gold would share a pattern but they're not really part of the same quadrant... A: Humans see patterns everywhere, that's it. Q: Let's say we have a Twinborn aluminium/nicrosil and he tapped a lot of nicrosil, so much he started to emit mist and then burned aluminum. Would he destroy his own Investiture? A: No. Q: People with mixed Investiture, coming from different Shards, with heritage from different worlds. Will we see them and how would they interact with magic systems? A: You have already seen them. How they're gonna... it depends on the magic system. Things I have overheard, written and I'm fairly sure about: Jasnah does not know about Adonalsium. She is not cosmere aware. (Actually Brandon turned around to us and pointed that this is a good question) AonDor isn't used around Shardpool not only because of culture reasons. Survival Shard... it was wise decision [to get away from all of that] unkeyed goldminds in hospitals in the future - very likely. Allomantic air conditioning - [they don't know how to do this] RAFO Kaladin would look half-Asian half-Arabian to us If he were to die, who would he pick to finish cosmere? Right now he would pick Brian McClellan. Stormlight Archive - the name means an archive of books (summoning @Kanrei), something like the ten books, the actual in-world books? @Darkness Ascendant, Brandon said he's gonna visit Australia, Perth and Sydney, in June. EDIT: I don't have it in my notes (since we already knew that already) but Hoid is not in Edgedancer but Lift referenced him. So now we are 100% sure he is the man that was eaten that Lift remembers.- 196 replies

He's probably running out of place in his copperminds by now -

I asked a ton. I can barely remember what I did ask. I was very excited so my memory is hazy. I got RAFO'd when I asked about the Shard which didn't Invest, the one floating in the space, the one that just wants to hide+survive (I'm not really sure that we know all these things apply to the same Shard). hm... I asked about technological progress on other worlds than Scadrial: Taldain was progressing technologically... but then Autonomy did the isolation thing and it stopped. Roshar is headed towards magicpunk since they've got a ton of Investiture flying around. I asked about AI/sentient machines in cosmere... but without the recording on hand I don't want to feed you mistruths. I asked a lot about AonDor - turns out you could write a higher-level programming language with that. I think he said there is a way to make functions (so object oriented programming). I asked about going deeper to access the assembler and he said that there are things we don't know about Sel yet and why magic works that way but my impression was he said he'll dig into it eventually. I took a shot at the Terriswoman in Warbreaker, he asked what do we think and I said one of the nurses. He didn't confirm but said something like that I shouldn't be able to make that guess and was surprised I did. I think he said that we will eventually figure this out/we'll get to know her. We asked about films, Brandon said that he'd want to do cameos where he dies every time. Like ultimate Redshirt. Oh, and he said my shirt was awesome. I agreed. ... And I may have left my printed list of questions in his room.- 196 replies

Yeah, irrationaly is the good word. I just got spoiled, the entire series, by the author himself. I'd be angry if that wasn't so awesome. -

We did interview with Brandon! It was awesome! More than I can tell you because I promised I won't: -

Oh guys you wouldn't believe what happened during the interview. I managed to ask some juicy questions (I got RAFO'd twice and the event hasn't even started, beat that) and then... ... ... then it got weird. See, I started to ask some questions, he answered, I went with follow ups and in the heat of the moment he went "you will see [REDACTED] at the end of the Stormlight but cosmere will end differently, it will be [REDACTED]". Then he realized what he just said. We were sitting there with our jaws literally dropped. Of course he asked us to keep silent about what he revealed and we of course agreed not to say anything... but it's gonna be awesome, I can tell you that. The rest of the interview is free to be posted, we will get around to that soon.- 196 replies

We will probably have something to record the Saturday event but if you have a recorder or something of the sort, please bring it - better safe than sorry and better doubly safe than safe. I'll be wearing T-Shirt with cosmere symbol if anyone wants to say hi The FB event has 80 people "going" and another 30 "interested" - I don't know how will that translate into real numbers. We made a Google document for the questions so people without their own can pick one. I'll post it tomorrow (today... in 20 hours). Still no inside info :< -
Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Oversleep replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Is somebody here who would have time for a short talk on voice chat on Discord? I need to go over a few cosmere terms as I have no idea whether I pronounce them right (it's not the "how do I pronounce Szeth" but "am I saying Odium correctly" thing). It won't take long, I promise. But I'm a little in hurry... -
You can always use Worf Effect... if you wanna make sure the enemy is powerful, make him curbstomp some widely-recognized-as-powerful characters. I know, that's not a good trope but all I can think of right now.

Random Stuff X: Something Weird

In 40 hours I'm gonna meet Sanderson. The whole idea seems weird. -
Depending on how you count, there are 30 magic systems on Roshar. Or three - Surgebinding is one but then it's also ten smaller systems. Anyway, Rosharan magic systems grant access to the Ten Surges, each in its own way (Surgebinding by establishing a Nahel bond with spren, Voidbinding (probably) by bonding/merging with spren to enter the Form of Power, the third system in the third way). All in all, the conclusion is simple: it's 10, not 16.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I feel like somebody is stealing hours in my day away. Especially when I'm asleep. -
The thing is, that while Radiant do have squires (of varying numbers) and Windrunners' Resonance is "strength of squires" which makes Windrunner squires abnormal in strength and number, Heralds do not have squires. And since the Resonance of Gravity and Adhesion is "strength of the squires" Jezrien has it; but he has no squires it can be applied to.

Writer's block? This comic can be really helpful in overcoming it. -
There is a WoB on reddit (which I can't look for right now) about Heralds on their effects - they do have them which sucks for Jezrien since Heralds don't have squires.
-
Not really. His Lightweaving is Yolish, not Rosharan. He also has at least 200 Breaths.
-
but there was also one about "whether the steel is iron is pure enough".
-
Okay. I have seen it mentioned on the forums few times: "Breaths cannot be stolen by Hemalurgy". But I can't find any WoB to back it up. Help?

Am I the only person who doesn't like Name of the Wind?
Oversleep replied to matademonios's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Well, before Kvothe starts telling his tale he does give a warning that stories rarely go straight way from beginning to the end. It's one of the basic premises of Kingkiller Chronicle - to reconstruct the story itself. -
I see it now. In that case copper could probably be a better choice than zinc. If you had your copperminds nicely organised, you could do complex Awakenings on the fly.
-
Wait. Guys. I forgot something. We're talking Stonewarden here. A Radiant. It means... SHARDPLATE. Now my idea of the Awakened exoskeleton is not so smart anymore You can still wrap it over the Shardplate for extra strength, though. Although I wonder whether Shardplate would not create interference - could you Awaken in Shardplate? Breath would need to go from inside of the Plate to the outside of the Plate. @Drake Marshall, this WoB could be of interest to you. I'm imagining a regular clothing, but with tassels everywhere. Like... mistcloak is kind of cape cut up in tassels and mistcoat is a duster cut up in tassels. I'm saying regular mistclothing. Like, you get a regular shirt and sew in tassels everywhere, in every part of it. I don't think Feruchemical copper would be that useful - you probably memorised the Commands during training, Feruchemical zinc would be more useful in the fray. Feruchemical copper really shines for Elantrians.
-
I came up with a new one: Stonewarden Awakener. See, we don't know what Tension and Cohesion do exactly. We know that: Awakeners use mostly cloth and fabric in Awakening. Combined with ability to alter its flexibility/stiffness and (probably) malleability... You'd no longer be limited by the fact that you're using fabric in Awakening - you could alter it how you want at will. One moment your Awakened sleeves "grip what you must", the next moment you can parry swords with it. If you have long tassels, you could Command them to spring at enemies and then make them stiff and rigid and pierce their bodies. The idea started when I thought of Vasher using his clothing to enhance his limbs; I thought of designing clothes which you could Awaken to form an exoskeleton around your body. Stonewarden can make armor out of it (or use them offensively like in example above). Then I threw Twinborn in that, because that's what I do. As of right now we have an Awakener wrapped in Awakened exoskeleton which can also be used offensively (tassels. Tassels everywhere), who can inhale Stormlight (boost in physical abilities + powerful regeneration) and alter the physical properties of things he Awakens. Which Allomantic power and which Feruchemical power goes with that? Well, I think Allomantic pewter is good - it combines nicely with the enhanced abilities of exoskeleton + Stormlight. Another one could be Allomantic tin, to play along with the Heightened senses. Feruchemical powers... it's hard to choose from. We could go Feruchemical pewter just to add even more strength. We could go Feruchemical tin (although it's a very inferior choice to Allomantic tin). Feruchemical steel is always OP. Feruchemical gold is always helpful. Feruchemical duralumin could enhance lifesense (if it works on Connection). Feruchemical zinc would probably be the best - faster thinking to Awaken in combat situations. I think I would settle on Pewter/Zinc Twinborn or Tin/Zinc Twinborn, depending on what you want enhance more. All in all, the combination is Pewter/Tin & Zinc Twinborn Stoneward Awakener.

Yes, Brandon talks about Taln... the thing is, he didn't confirm anything about Taln, we don't know whether he is who he claims to be etc. Brandon is especially evasive around this topic.
