  1. He has been generous because he knows that he is coming to Chicago, and he knows that we will be there... He wants to get out of there at a decent time, and he knows that if we have questions left, we will hound him until the very end...
  2. So I have spoke with Rebecca at Volumes Cafe the host of the event once again. They will be at the library about an hour early to setup. They once again confirmed with the library, and Brandon's people that recording would be 100% okay. I have her cell phone number and we will be allowed in early to setup our recording devices. @Zmann966 If you can get there early, I can get both of us in and we can setup.
  3. I spoke with Volumes Book Cafe, the hosts of this event, and they said that there should be no issues with recording equipment being used during the event. The person I spoke with did take my contact info, and will be double checking with her manager, who is the actual organizer of the event. I also called the library, and the person I spoke to looked up their event guides, and she saw no rule against it. I work for a different library system in the state, and I have a contact at the library, and I will be reaching out to him personally to see if there are any limitations or bonuses I can try to get for us.
  4. I will try to get a hold of some equipment again, but my company uses it much more frequently now. I think we will have an easier time since the signing is in a library this time.
  5. The Orange Line is the closest to me and runs 4am - 1:25am during the week, so staying late should not be an issue since the official end time is 8:30pm. For people who cannot go, let us know if there are questions you would like answered and we can possibly try to find people who do not have questions to give them to. The same can be said for people that have too MANY questions... (I'm looking at you Argent), we can try to get them to others to ask as well.
  6. Just announced signing tour is coming to Chicago on Dec. 6th. http://www.volumesbooks.com/event/brandon-sanderson-harold-washington-library Creating a new thread so that we can start planning our questions. Who all will be showing up? POST SIGNING EDIT The event was amazing! I have two audio files to share with hopefully more to come. If we start a transcript please let me know and I will add a link to that here as well. As I have stated later in this thread, these files are only slightly edited but please enjoy. Singing Line General Q&A - Unedited Outside Q&A Session Cleaned up audio version Transcription Google Doc Edit #2: Thanks to @Zmann966 for cleaning up the outside Q&A audio! Here is the full transcript as requested.
  7. My copy arrived a day early! I opened my front door to a nice surprise this morning!
  8. I cannot agree more. I am also in the middle of a reread of WoR currently. I read that as they left Szeth in Alethkar with the blade the night they ordered the assassination.
  9. Got my copy this morning. The bookstore only had 5 copies. For the price this is an amazing book with some nice illustrations. It even has the 17th Shard website in the front of the book.
  10. Thanks for the help Zmann! Sorry to hear that your recording fuzzed though. So who do we contact to get a copy of that group pic?
  11. Okay, yesterday's signing was awesome! I have two recordings to share with the class. The first one is Brandon's intro and reading, the other is the Q&A during the signing. My only regret is that my recorder ran out of space just after the group picture so hopefully someone has the last few questions that were asked during the event. I have not had the time to try to clean up this audio, but here it is. Intro, General Q&A, and Reading Signing Q&A
  12. It is possible to survive this but you probably would not want to... WoB: https://twitter.com/BrandSanderson/status/695365263240212480
  13. The hallways are lit by Spheres, this is Kaladin pulling Stormlight from spheres. Kaladin flew across the plains on the light that he had gathered earlier, I do not see any relevance since he is not drawing in any new stormlight. Again these lanterns are made out of spheres, and he is drawing the stormlight from these the same as he did the hallway lamps. I agree that this is a little ambiguous, I would argue that Kal would always keep spheres on him because he is now, A) not a slave anymore and he is getting paid for his services, B ) He knows what his abilities are, and he knows that he needs stormlight to power his abilities, he would not want to rely on the battlefield to supply the source of his powers. Again this is all conjecture, but getting back to the topic of this thread, this proves that this is a good topic to ask Brandon about.
  14. Kal has a single sphere on him when he was strung up. My impressions from reading was that he was constantly drawing light from that sphere while the storm was constantly filling it.
  15. Just bought my copy, and got number 35, see all of you there
  16. disgusting crab thing with seventeen legs*
  17. The major problem with this is that Humans on Scadrial did not exist in the time of Adonalsium. As we know these humans were created with investiture of both Ruin and Preservation, and Feruchemy has been around for quiet some time. Allomancy and Hemalurgy are relatively new players in the game. You could argue that Feruchemy is the original magic of the planet from the time of the creation, and that when TRL ascended he saw the two individual powers for what they were and created both Allomancy and Hemalurgy.
  18. Okay here goes attempt number two on writing this post after the shardic power of this forum ate my last attempt. What would happen if a bloodmaker was 100% convinced that he/she should not age past a certain point. And either he is the only one around, or he also convinced everyone else that he/she should not age as well. This could be done a few different ways, through religion, brain washing, who knows... The end goal to all of this is that the cognitive aspect of the bloodmaker is sure that this person should not age. Once all that is in place, whenever the user taps gold, would it convert his physical body back to the age that the cognitive aspect knows it should be? We have several WoB floating out there that states that almost all magical healing in the Cosmere is done the same way. The investiture reverts the physical aspect of a person back to their cognitive aspect's view of themselves. This is why when Kaladin healed himself with Stormlight, this slave brands did not get removed, he views these as part of himself now. I have also read that the spiritual aspect of ones self knows the absolute truth about yourself so this might fight the effect over time, but would it be enough for a bloodmaker that uses gold on a regular basis? I don't know if i wrote this as well the second time, but I hope you guys get the idea of my theory.
  19. That is another good point, all Aons are made from multiple Aon Aon. Thus, would you need to add the chasm line to each and every Aon Aon that makes up the more complex Aon? (I dont know if I said the word Aon enough times in those two sentences...)
  20. So when reading back through Elantris this time I noticed something i found a little weird. To fix the Aons, the chasm line had to be added, this was very obvious for the simple single aon commands, ie. draw the base aon, add the chasm line, and poof it worked. But where I found it weird, is when there were multiple aons in the command. The primary and then all of the modifiers. From the text, it sounds like the base aon is drawn, modifiers are added, and then the chasm line was added to the base aon and poof it worked. My confusion is, wouldn't all the modifiers need the chasm lines added as well? Was this just something that was glossed over and never stated? And if so, what order would you need to draw them in? Base Aon, Modifier Aon(s), Modifier Chasm Line, Base Chasm Line? Base Aon, Modifier Aon(s) with Chasm Line, Base Chasm Line?
  21. I will be trying my hardest to be there as well. I plan on leaving directly from work and heading there. The time listed on Anderson's site says 7:00 pm. If I remember correctly, last time he did a signing there it went well past midnight, so it should be a fun time as long as they do not kick us out early. If need be, I can try to record the event as well.
  22. Not sure if this was officially asked before, but i got one of my questions answered. Q: If someone was taping gold, would spiking a separate ability out of them kill them? Or would it work at all? A: It IS possible to spike someone without killing them. But they'd never be the same. It would be worse than being a drab.
  23. In the broadsheets there was an ad asking for help testing new Allomantic metals. I could only see this as a way for the Set to get a supply of Allomantic spikes...
  24. I was really sad to find out that the Ars Arcanum was not included with the new audiobook. It was something that that I was looking forward to and it is listed in the Publisher's Summary on Audible where I purchased it.
  25. I have delurked! I was the one to ask that question. My interaction with Brandon went as follows: Me: Humans on Scadrial have investiture of both Preservation and Ruin inside of them. Brandon: *Nodded* Yes Me: Feruchemically, with Nicrosil, (At this point Brandon's body language changed, and i knew that he would not want to answer my question), does storing investiture in Nicrosil store this connection to Ruin/Preservation/Harmony? Brandon: You are on the right track, and asking the right questions but RAFO.
