MeLaan could always pretend to be Ranette for Wayne. I think the chemistry with Wayne is going to be something that MeLaan isn't going to ignore.
-
Is it possible she spiked a dog or wolf to grant animal-like attributes to a normal person? I believe I remember a WOB saying that Hemalurgy could do more than grant powers, but regular attributes as well.
-
Not to be rude or anything, but you missed about half the theory. What if the mystery metal spike came from Odium? There are many little things that show evidence for this in the book as well. Wax feeling extreme hatred and it forcing the mist away from him. The 'Visitor from another world" in the broadsheet is described strikingly close to a Parshendi or Lyatil, both of which as far as we know are on Roshar. One of them could have easily been an agent of Odium and brought the spike with them to disrupt Harmonies plans for nefarious purposes. It just seems to me that a shard with the Intent Autonomy wouldn't be going around messing with other shards. While ,yes, Bleeder was autonomous to Harmony, medeling seems to go against the intent. Much like Preservation was unable to destroy Ruin because doing so would destroy himself, while he was Leras that is. IDK, there were just too many references to Wax's random feelings of extreme hatred in the book that halfway through I was thinking to myself, "This smells of Odium." That and the possible Parshendi coupled with the MeLaan at the end talking with Marasi about this being the work of another god cinched it for me.
-
My personal view after reading the book and some of the other theories is that yes it is a Parshendi, probably on some sort of mission from Odium. There seemed to be an unusual amount of Hatred in this book that stuck out at me, not to mention drove away the mists at one point. Add that to the not so subtle hint from MeLaan at the end that there was another shard in play and the unknown metal that the spike was made from that enabled Bleeder to use powers. I think the Parshendi delivered the metal or spike and somehow got it to end up in Bleeder to undermine/distract Harmony.
-
I believe the reason that there are Human/Koloss is because Koloss were originally Human to begin with. Kandra start out as a blob of Jello. Although, Bleeder does mention that she is aware of Human beings cells. Perhaps she could imitate a human well enough to fool the 'real' human half of the reproductive system to achieve conception. On the other hand that might just create a normal human in that case.

I think they are leery of producing compounders because they don't feel that that much power in one person is a good thing. They still remember what TLR was able to do with it and would rather not have a repeat.

Renarins Radiant Abilities
TwelfthOfSnackTime replied to TwelfthOfSnackTime's topic in Stormlight Archive
The way I saw it was that he used his healing much like a doctor would use a sedative. I don't know if that is right though because healing magic doesn't seem the same as regular medicine, but its the only thing I can think of here. -
The possible powers the hypothetical Nightblood bond could give to Szeth should be linked to Nightbloods own abilities (like Honorspren bind things). So IF Nightblood gives powers I think it will be the power to consume Investiture as well, or use the Investiture that Nightblood consumes for something. whatever way Brandon does it it will be really cool, I don't think he'd bring Nightblood into the story just so Szeth can chunk it at his enemies.

So I'm on another re-read of WoR and something caught my eye in the scene where Dalinar and co first notice the strange writing on the wall (I'm using kindle so I can't give pg numbers). Now I read in another thread somewhere where it was put forward that Renarin was the one responsible for writing the warnings, based on his ability to see ahead as a Truthwatcher and wanting to warn everybody without attracting attention to himself. In this scene Dalinar wakes from his vision and tells it to Navani and everybody leaves him alone in his room, at which time he promptly falls asleep. This scene stuck with me because he mentions how weird it was for him to fall asleep during the day. The second Surge of the Truthwatchers is Progression which is the 'Surge of healing and regrowth.' My theory is that Renarin was somehow able to use this surge to put Dalinar to sleep so that he could etch the warning without anyone noticing him. What do ya'll think? I don't know if this has been discussed yet or not so feel free to tear it up.

There seems to be an awful lot of peoples migrating to different worlds in the legends of different Cosmere peoples. The Rosharans and their Traquiline Halls are one group that is a distinct possibility. Not to mention the residents of Threnody specifically say they left their world as refugees or pilgrims of some sort. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Terris people are another group. In fact most if not all worlds should have something like that in their mythologies if you consider that most shards didn't create their own humans like Preservation and Ruin did, but brought them from Yolen.

I agree that is a chink in my theory. I'm still trying to figure out how the Spiritual realm comes into play with it. Unnfortunatly we don't have much info to go on in that regard. On the other hand while the realms are all part of a greater whole, and everything exists in all three at the same time, they do seem to display a certain level of distinctness. At least from what I have seen on Shardesmar and such. My theory doesn't go into the day to day relationship between realms but Individuals within different realms when Investiture is involved. Either way I hope the next Stormlight book goes into greater detail on Spren and the Cognitive realm so Brandon can tell us we were all wrong.

It was an over-simplified idea. Basically I meant that Physical realm inhabitance use investiture to affect their own surroundings, while the exact details of what the power does to achieve those effects varies they all have one thing in common, that is, making the investiture do things requires a cognitive direction. Much like the shards use the shardholders as the cognitive direction. You have to know and think about what you want to do to achieve it. Now based on that idea I figured that the spren, as Cognitive Aspects can't change anything in the Cognitive realm as much without a 'Physical direction'. I figure this because the Cognitive realm is based on the perception of the Physical realms inhabitance. So in order for a spren to really change their own surroundings they have to alter physical world first in some way. Now as for what they do with investiture or how they make any changes I don't know. But they do use it for something or else Soulcasting wouldn't work because you can't bribe someone with something they don't see as valuable. Maybe all they use investiture for is to change, and with enough, are able to manifest in the physical realm more and more in order to help shape events and outcomes that would be more beneficial for their own interests.

The 'nutrients' Nightblood gets from investiture is probably what constantly powers his Consciousness. He obviously doesn't have a physical brain to store it nor physical digestive system to power it so it must work something like a Nahel bond for spren. They get something out of the bond that gives them sentience as well. As to where it goes after he re-emits the waste energy, I think we'll need to know a bit more on the Cognitive realms inhabitance relationship with investiture. My personal theory is that it works for them the same way it works for humans but opposite. Investiture for humans gives them abilities to alter the physical world through the cognitive (gives their ideas and thoughts shape and power). Maybe giving investiture to cognitive aspects gives them the power to change things in the cognitive realm through the physical. Idk, its just what came to my mind when I read this thread.

That's an interesting theory. I've never thought to connect the Recreance to the Listeners abandoning their gods. while it sounds like a good connection I don't believe that the Parshendi turned away at the same time as the KR though. that would mean that the last Desolation never really ended when the Heralds thought it did and that it was going on the whole time via the Odium controlled Parshendi. Now that doesn't mean that the Parshendi didn't have something to do with the Recreance. if I'm remembering right it was thought to have been caused by a terrible secret coming to light, at least Mr. T thinks so. The Parshendi could have been the once to tell them that secret, which may have been the same secret that they used to break away from their gods in the first place.

Isn't there a Feruchemical way to store Identity with Aluminum and Connection with Duralumin? Do you suppose with both combined Demoux and Asyldin could have hacked compounding by forming one Identity so that he could burn her metalminds? Remind anyone of marriage a little? Idk, I'm just spitballing.
-
Demoux could have is age affected because he virtually became a Atium Savant during the last battle. Plus, and I don't know where to find this but I read it from a WOB somewhere, Demoux's new girlfriend is the Terriswoman worldhopper. It seems to me he had a perfectly reasonable reason to join his girlfriends little club. As to how, maybe the Terris know something about worldhopping that the rest of Scadrial doesn't.

I'm gunna throw a monkey wrench in all of this theorizing on the origin of Urithiru and the oathgates by adding that the Dawnsingers could have bee the ones to create them. Aren't all the main cities specifically shaped like sound waves or something like that? Not to mention, how on Roshar could KR even create something as powerful as the oathgates anyway?

You develop the most creative imagination in history, but no way of letting it out. I wish authors would be able to write awesome books faster than I could read them. -

You receive the next ten books but they are written in Braile. I want to absorb and use investiture directly from the earth
