  1. Another thing- the Hero is snarky. Brandon said that he'll be coming up with a lot of the in-game dialogue on the back of napkins as he thought about them. He'll write out the cutscenes like normal though.
  2. You know, maybe "where Honor lies" isn't in the West. In our early culture, (and in our present culture), if you ask someone where Heaven and God is, they'll point up. So perhaps Uritihiru is being put in the West because there's a really high spot where they could make a city. EDIT- And I'm working on my Spren theory. It will be here soon. And it's not so much a Spren thoery, as a spren stance of what I believe, and why I back it up. EDIT 2- Another random idea- Maybe "where Honor lies" isn't where Honor lays- maybe it's where Honor doesn't tell the truth. Or where the Honorable thing to do is to not tell the truth. Edit on Edit 2- Umm... Eri pointed out correctly that it's not "Place where Honor lies" but the "Place closest to Honor" Here it is:
  3. Only occasionally.. When he can't help it. My guess is that he isn't converting mass into energy, or making a perfect O2 H2 mix. Do you guys know what Entropy is? Well a basic description is that in the Statistical sense, things tend to go toward a more disordered state, as there are more possibilities in disordered states than a clean state. It's like a dirty room. There's about a bajillion different possibilities that will define your room as "dirty", so it is simply more likely that it will be dirty than clean. Under this definition of Entropy, it is theoretically possible that for a mixed gas of N2 and O2 in a container, all of the N2 will be on one side, and all of the O2 is on the other side. It's possible, but it's only one possibility out of a bajillion, so it's not ever going to really happen. All sorts of things are possible but improbable. It is possible that the glass plate next to you suddenly has all of the molecules vibrate exactly right and it randomly changes form. Or it suddenly turns into gas. Or a liquid. What I believe Soulcasting is, (at least Shallan's) is to "convince" the spren of an object to vibrate just a little bit differently. So it isn't so much that the Flaming Man is actually turned into Fire. It's that Jasnah has convinced the spren to vibrate just a little faster (okay, a LOT faster) so that he burns. So yes, there should be ash (or at least Smoke). And the reason why there are Ten Essences, is because there are certain vibrational "hot spots". Do you remember Kabsal's demonstration with the cities? How the sand will end up looking JUST like a city if you have the right parameters? This is like the Ten Essences. They are vibrational "Hot Spots" that are easier to find and stay at for the spren. "Now what about the change in elements? How do you account for the lost protons and electrons?" I don't really know. Perhaps they are changed into the Power of Creation, where they are kept there, until there is a mass increase transformation, and then the Power of Creation is turned into mass. Or maybe it's the Stormlight. Maybe it turns into extra Stormlight and diffusses, or the energy in Stormlight is turned into mass. I think that Brandon doesn't really Break the Laws of Thermodynamics in his books, as they're just a little bit... different. See the Iron mass/momentum thread, or the Redshift thread, where he tweaks the laws just a titch so that we can have sweet powers- so he can tell dynamic stories.
  4. I was looking around, looking up theories for Girl Genius, a webcomic l love a little too much, when I came across a fan site: http://modojiesen.proboards.com/index.cgi I died a little inside. It's about 1/2 of our size, but still. *shudders* Thank you, designers and coders for making 17th Shard look so pretty.
  5. Hehehe... That was a fun post.

  6. No, it's clear. I think I'll go ahead and answer this since I think I can do it effectively. Actually.... my answer ended up being a lot longer than I expected. So I'll make a theory instead. My answer? Honorspren are just for Windrunners. I'll link my theory after I'm done with it.
  7. I believe that makes the most sense for Demoux's immortality. Marsh has a Feruchemical atium spike from an old inquisitor, it makes sense that Demoux would too. It is also possible that Harmony fueled his immortality. Brandon has talked about how either Ruin or Preservation could fuel any of the Metallic arts, so maybe Harmony has been fueling him with a atium de-age every so often. Or maybe it has to do with Hoid's time dilation technique. But I believe that from Occam's Razor, the Feruchemical Spike from a former Inquisitor makes the most sense. Plus, that way, Harmony can communications in the Seventeenth Shard (since he can read MINDS! But maybe that's just because Wax is a allomancer, a feruchemist, a hemalurgist, believes in his shard, and there's mists around. Maybe being without the mists makes it not possible for Harmony to read minds).
  8. Glad to see you here Telcontar! Can I ask you to do one thing? Could you put "Way of Kings spoilers" in the title? That way someone who hasn't read it yet won't have anything spoiled. *Way of Kings and Well of Ascension spoilers! This is possible. Maybe the Herald's Shardblades (or Dawn Shards, or Honorblades, whatever they have), have been pulled down by gravity, and as they did, they slowly sliced and sliced until "CRACK" the land split. Erosion took care of the rest as the Highstorms always ran down these cracks, and the shardblades went down further and further, and the land cracked more and more. Yeah, there's something going on with the Parshendi that we don't quite understand. Why are they so honorable on the battle field, but then only make a treaty to break it? Does it have something to do with the Dark Sphere that Gavilar had? Is it to draw attention to the Shattered Plains? What is it? I think there's a couple people that believe that. After all, just because Jasnah and Shallan believe that the Parshmen are Voidbringers from the records doesn't mean that the Parshendi are bad, or even that the Parshmen are bad. We've already seen a Shard (Ruin) manipulate the words of records, and although I don't think Brandon would do the same thing twice, he might. Only if Hoid gave it to him
  9. I'm trying to figure out how many people that would be... 5 because Gandalf and Dumbledore was played by the same person? Oh wait, I can't forget about the original Dumbledore, so that's six. Oh! And I can't forget about Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White. And what about the doctors? How many doctors have there been? 10? 11? And according to some, there was an original Hoid who died, and then the current Hoid. That puts us at about 18? So I'm not sure if the Universe would explode from concentrated awesomeness or from Mistaken Identity Crises.
  10. I don't think so. Some more numbers on lurkers- I seem to see three big spikes of joining. One is in February, one in September, and then a third in December.
  11. Better the psychopathic hermit than zombie corpse #23424.
  12. Some other random numbers. I just passed the 175 reputation mark, and just passed the 1024 (16*16*4) post mark, and Chaos passed both the 2084 mark (16*16*8), and his old TWG post count. Oh, and about 75% of the members on 17th Shard have posted once or less, and 3 of them (Senseless, Unicornlover, and Supernatural Aura) not only haven't ever posted, but they haven't even ever seen a post. But Brandon wins the award for biggest lurker. He's got something like 700 views without a single post, while the nearest competition only has 450-470 views. Oh, and I'm in second place behind The Lord Ruler. Oh yeah.
  13. No, it's a great question, and one that I think a lot of us haven't thought about. I haven't heard about it before.
  14. I've been watching Numb3rs, in hopes that watching it will somehow magically make progress on my math homework. It's not working out too well.
  15. Why, yes I do! It's from the 17th Shard Interview.
  16. Just a quick note here, so people remember. You can try to extrapolate all you want, just remember that this is speculation. It's speculation that makes sense to me, but it is still speculation. The fact that there are Oathgates (or whatever they're called- that's a good enough name until we get a canon one) is pure speculation that does make sense with the "regular method" that Nohaden talks about. *sigh* Never mind. I'm wrong. Chapter 39: As to this.... Remember this quote? The fact that the Knight Radiants lived in Uritihiru during Dalinar's vision doesn't mean that they always did. Just because they trained there doesn't mean that they built the city. Indeed, This seems to reference Urithiru. The fact that it wasn't crafted by man could mean that it was made by early Soulcasters, as has been already mentioned, or it could mean that perhaps the Almighty built it, as Shallan's ardent (Kabsal) seems to think is the case with many of the other original cities.
  17. I would like to announce that Legion is on sale now, with signed and numbered copies: http://www.subterraneanpress.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=sanderson01&Category_Code=PRE&Product_Count=28

    Atium Alloys

There probably isn't. There's a good chance that it would (techinically) be called , but for the same reason that I didn't show it, if it shows up, the characters would probably call it Harmonium. And that may be the exact same thing as Leratium and Aterium. Many believe that that metal would be powerless, or that it would make you a Feruchemist.
  19. Happy Birthday!

  20. Elantris Spoiler! Or, if the disease happened to be based off of some metals, then I would be very happy to be an aluminum gnat. Being able to not get the disease? Perfect. I guess on the far-more-likely chance of it not being allomantic-metal based, I would want to be a Coinshot. Burn it for long enough, become a Savant, and then I can "see" in the dark, and I'll ALWAYS KNOW WHEN THEY'RE COMING. Not to mention being able to make a Shotgun out of anything. Which everyone knows is the perfect zombie weapon.
  21. I'll post this, even though I think I know what you mean. You mean a body that exists in the Physical Realm, correct? Rather than the way that Ruin/Vin appears to those they have a Spiritual Connection (Hemalurgists for Ruin, and believing Allomancers {Elend} for Vin), which is just a form projected from the Cognitive Realm.
  22. Welcome! I love your picture. It's fantastic. I hope you enjoy yourself here. And I second the opinion of Elantris before Way of Kings. Oh! And don't forget Warbreaker. I'd read that before Way of Kings too. (Though Elantris is my favorite of the three. But maybe that's just for sentimental reasons).

    Marsh

Another option- maybe Ruin wanted to be able to destroy other planets (or Shards) too, and so he wanted servants who could live long enough to help him do it. So he has the Inqusitors start travelling (whether through Shadesmar, or through other means is unknown), and then they can use Atium to last until they get there.
  24. If you want some more details, go to the home page and read this month's week, I meant week, Around the Cosmere. It's got some more information about the game. EDIT- *sigh* I need more sleep.... Oh, and you accidentally posted this topic twice, so I deleted the other one.
  25. I'm pretty sure the answer is yes. They have the ability to replicate humans, dogs, souped up horses, and "skeletons" made of wood, crystal, rock and metal. So since they seem to be able to do it with those things, they probably can do the same with Parshendi. Unless there's something really really weird going on.
