So I'm thinking about this. Let's break down the components: You're a dude with the knowledge of gods, but not their power. You know where all the gods live, you can visit them in their realms, be they physical or otherwise. You really don't like this guy, Rayse. Especially since he became a god. Now what do you find on Nalthis? Perhaps hundreds of years after Warbreaker and Vasher, for all we know. A blade that feeds on Breath -- Investiture, the power of the gods themselves. It has an insatiable appetite for the stuff. So is this Hoid's hand? Kill Odium by giving him an unchained Nightblood? Imagine what Nightblood could do if unleashed in Shadesmar. Left to his intent, no physics to restrain him.

Why do the Parshendi shoot at the bridgemen?
Pechvarry replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
First off, can someone +1 starlet? I accidentally voted you down. Next, I'm essentially imagining like you said: if they have a prophecy that he will stand invincible in the fodder, they try to kill bridgemen. But with the chaos of war, this strategy for locating him has proven less efficient than expected. Luckily, he eventually made himself known more blatantly. -
I like the idea of being named after forgettable side characters. If it's at all fantasy related, I use Pechvarry, because he's at least from a fantasy novel.

I'm wondering if the description in the kaladin scene is wrong. Alternatively, doesn't he visit Kaladin while officially disappearing? I could see him wrapping the silvery scabbard with a black material to help avoid notice and recognition. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if one could feed Nightblood any type of investiture. Like, ohhh, stored calories from all those lighteyes feasts.

Gaming the System - Crazy Extrapolations
Pechvarry replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We know feruchemic Iron doesn't make you get crushed under your own weight, and (at least according to the RPG...) tapping brass never makes you burn yourself. Oh man, don't get me started with cross-magic interactions. I think about that crap all the time. We'd probably want a different thread to discuss things like that. However, here's my contribution (which does cross planets, if not magic systems) Idle Hands Step 1: Sever your arm using a Shardblade. It now hangs limply at your side Step 2: Awaken your dead arm (<-- this will also be the name of your metal band. You may need to play drums, Def Leppard style) I'm not sure what you're going to accomplish with this. But if someone else awakens your arm first, you'll have to man up, cut it off, and find yourself a chainsaw. -
Ehh. Spren was just a cosmere-aware way to mention QEDs. Maybe taking an invested object to Roshar and splitting it under that planetary identity would make it still see itself as a whole. Maybe bonding with a spren, Syl style, makes it a strong enough part of your identity to be considered you and it can just go sit on your metalmind. But this is all rather semantic. Whether it's achieved via spren or straight cognitive aspect or particle fission, it's just an amusing thought that for any power that specifies touch, one could feasibly trick the universe into thinking you are touching.

Why do the Parshendi shoot at the bridgemen?
Pechvarry replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's feasible the Parshendi are looking for Dalinar and Kaladin. Who knows? Maybe the whole war is an effort to draw out those chosen to become the Knights Radiant. If they have prophecy to guide them, perhaps they know Kaladin will be a bridgeman. They know their place in it, and they do their best to bring him out. But with the chaos of war, it seems logical they wouldn't know for sure until the climactic battle. So in other words... Unbreakable. (Which, unfortunately, I didn't reference intentionally but wish with all my soul that I had) -
Emperor's Soul Theory Discussions
Pechvarry replied to Windrunner's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
(Actually, anthracite is real) Woops. Reading Comprehension fail. Carry on, good posters. -
I haven't read anything that contradicts the OP, though. It really seems like The Old Magic is end-neutral, like feruchemy. As for Taravangian, it's a pretty neat parallel. It seems mostly a difference of dimension. Take, for example, Pewter. Allomantically, it makes you stronger/faster/more agile/better healer. Feruchemically, it just makes you stronger. So Allomantic pewter does the same stuff as Feruchemical pewter, but it also does other things. Similarly, Sazed gains/loses mental speed, while Taravangian gains/loses complete mental faculties. Worth noting: Taravangian need not be a product of The Old Magic (unless i missed something. I haven't read the WoR transcriptions).

yeah, that single breath could simply be reanimating the brain/central nervous system. This could give it the capacity for thought in much the same way as a computer. Not compelling evidence that lifeless having a breath means much. I'm starting to think (without any good cause) that a Breath is less a part of a soul, and more a microcosm of the soul. Like those Russian dolls, it's a part of a human soul that is a mini-soul in itself. A lifeless doesn't possess a real and complete soul (the thing we cannot endow), but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a splinter of a soul. We really need a thread soon discussing the similarities between Lifeless (chunk of a soul) and Koloss (stapled bits of souls).

Yeah I'm not gonna pretend I have any idea what you're trying to say. Still on phone, so staying brief: to connect 2 objects such that touching one qualifies as touching both, one could maybe subject them to some sort of quantum entanglement. Fancy that. Spren exhibit a few quantum physics-esque properties. Not a theory I actually intend to argue. Just a fun thought experiment.

For whatever reason, this makes me think of the EPR Paradox. Short version: have your Copperspren access your metalmind for you!

Why do the Parshendi shoot at the bridgemen?
Pechvarry replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
Has no one suggested they were looking for an invincible bridgeman? -
Too bad Titanium isn't an Invested Metal (I just decided on this term because "metal arts metal" sounds kinda dumb, albeit rather metal). Or else joint replacements and such would be fantastic for feruchemists.

Shaizan has scars and shorter hair, and the beggar is apparently emaciated. Those are obviously pretty minor compared to limb loss, but I thought I'd mention them as they set a precedent.

I always kinda felt what she says there at the end - particularly the "You see, a dramatic rescue such as you have effected will be expected to create an outpouring of my emotions" part - was Steris actually feeling that outpouring of emotions. But being Steris, she distances herself from it. I think she genuinely has a mega hero crush on Wax, at this point, and just hides it.

I'm guessing you could up the metal content/purity if you cared more for the metalmind than art fidelity. Just don't get TSS.

Sorry to be dense but... I don't get it.3 of the stronger mistings but with really good luck? Or is there some very obvious supercombo I'm missing? They better not all store while standing in the same room...

The self-destruction shard could work pretty well with the theory on the front page about Hoid being a former shard... a rock that became useless for his wearing it.

Question: Can someone point me to a thread (if it exists) discussing whether or not Miles' lines at the end of Alloy of Law are at all connected with the Death Prophecies of Way of Kings (iirc, Brandon has said they match up pretty closely on the timeline). In lieu of that, can anyone quickly shoot the theory down before I make a thread about it?

You could save a lot of points by cutting the Hulk down to the only compounder. He's the only one that really needs it. Though my vision of Iron man is probably a rioter with a spike rammed through his chest, granting him feruchemic zinc (and therefore compounding) at the cost of some sanity. The suit is still just his (alluminum alloy) invention. It had to happen eventually... MMO XP Party: Tank (iron/gold) - Focuses on his shotgun and a long barrel pistol with rounds designed around the bunker-buster concept of splattering -after- the first centimeter of penetration, resulting in a decent lurch anchor. Rogue (tin/duralumin) - close combat specialist. In addition to the scout/infiltration skill set, he stores as much connection as possible just before delivering the kill blow, making for a cold assassin without needing to be a total sociopath. Back line nuker: Wax Support: a Soother or Rioter (they're usually designed around a shallow gimmick with few alternate options anyway)

Emperor's Soul Deleted Scene
Pechvarry replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Holy crap. Brandon is listening to one of my favorite bands (Explosions in the Sky). Being a fan of music no one else likes, this is a very emotional moment for me. Carry on... -
Ok, so we know there is a residue. I'm guessing we can agree it changes you. But I don't really want to focus on just how strong Kelsier is compared to a Shard. The big thing I want to focus on is that Demoux is more likely to be an agent of Kelsier's than of Sazed's. Which would mean Kelsier is involved with the Seventeenth Shard, which brings me to the fact that he's technically a Sliver. Say you have a small business. There is a team of Salesmen who answer to the Salesman Supervisor. There's an Engineering department that answers to the Lead Engineer. The Salesman Supervisor and the Lead Engineer both answer directly to the President. The President's Assistant also answers directly to the President. He's, from a hierarchy perspective, peers with the different department managers. But that doesn't mean he has the same power to make changes in the company. Likewise, A Cognitive Sliver like Kelsier would quite likely see himself as a being "Of Adonalsium" now, just like a shard. He doesn't need shard-like power to recognize himself to be on the same level of hierarchy. This would explain a name like Seventeenth Shard which is a bit pretentious for a sliver (and Kelsier probably is), but is absurdly pretentious if you're just a group of dudes whose power has gone very far into the head. Also, thank you for the search help, WW.

I think we actually had a several-page thread just trying to settle on an appropriate word for it. Don't expect much immediate success. The biggest problem is that it's the perfect word in both instances (Wax compounded several hours worth of weight into a single moment). If I could choose, I'd rather find another word for the Miles process. Something referencing the exponential nature of it (since normal feruchemy is never exponential) but we'll just have to cope.

This is frustrating. Where do you people dig up your quotes other than searching that WoT database that never returns what I'm looking for? I know we have a quote where he states Kelsier is considered a sliver (I'm sure I've seen it just in the last week, yet I couldn't find it in the database). I also think we've seen quotes that basically spell out that "Splinters are special". So if Kelsier is still considered a Sliver after Vin ascends, that necessarily makes him still special. That's a lot of Ifs. Can someone provide quotes to refute, at least?
