  1. You know ferrings get bigger the more pewter they tap? It's a good thing I'm a gasper, you took my breath away! Are you burning zinc? There's a riot in my pants. With my bendalloy I will stop the world...
  2. Since you're pushing instead of hitting, it's not an impact, just a transfer of force. Steelrunning won't increase your physical strength though, so the ferring would have to be strong enough to push them in the first place.
  3. Are you wearing a brassmind? Because you are smokin hot! Ever dated an archivist? I promise it'll be unforgettable.
  4. Except that the person behaves like he's changed mass to other objects as well. If it was just storing gravity, Wax couldn't throw inertia around the way he did.
  5. I wrote a post earlier... Somewhere I'm not going to bother to find since I'm using my mobile... That dealt with how feruchemy protects the user from his own power using steelrunning as an example. Feruchemy protects steelrunners by increasing the tensile strength of their muscles, ligaments, etc... Otherwise steelrunner would tear his own limbs off. A small amount of that tensile strength would also help against impact damage. Otherwise steelrunners would shatter their own ankles. Steelrunners have to be careful when impacting slower moving objects (punching, kicking, faceplanting) because the bigger the difference in speed, the bigger the impact. The reason I listed flails and rocks is because these can be used primarily with tensile strength and won't harm the ferring. I listed knives for the Count of Montecristo. Speed is the key to a knife fight.
  6. Suddenly I realize another weapon that's perfect for steelrunners. Throwing rocks. A steelrunner could totaly take out thugs and brutes will well placed rocks moving at 100 plus mph. Total David vs Goliath.
  7. Not really, but IRL I am spectacularly unintimidating, and it bites me in the chull when I lose my temper. I guess I'd just like some overkill in the "you can't make me if I don't want to" department.
  8. I agree with Deus. I would choose steel. Knives and knuckle-dusters for unparalleled close range combat. Whips and flails for mid-ranged death-dealing.

    Mistings

Thug. Nobody expects a skinny thug.
  10. That being said, an allomancer who is also an awakener wouldn't see too much overlap in their abilities. Aside from being able to affect both metals and organics.
  11. I don't think that mistborn could burn the tears because the tears are actual flowers, not the body of endowment. Even if they were touched by the shard, the flowers aren't necessary for awakening to work. Atium was created by Preservation, who is tied to allomancy, from stolen power. Which may be the only reason allomancers can use it. Mistborns might be able to do some funny things if they're given breaths, but I'm pretty sure the flowers are out.
  12. Stormlight = Cultivation, why didn't I think of that? As I remember, it's discussed in the book that highstorms bring not only stormlight, but crem. Crem was the clay/sludge-like substance found mixed in stormwater that helped crops grow. It also was used in ceramics... And is a curse-word.
  13. I just found it odd. Spren are an integral part of Roshar, and I doubt Brandon would write the introductory scene to TSA sans spren without a reason.
  14. Sudden thought, does Kalak mention any spren? Any at all? I don't remember him doing so.
  15. You're welcome.
  16. But there's still the problem of density and mass, the Man had a higher mass and density than a normal cloud of burning gas his size and shape, Shallan should at least have noticed a sudden gust of wind as the cloud dispersed outward. I'm begining to think that it was an error, or there's something different in how Jasnah soulcasted.
  17. Nathan Fillion as Wax. That's what I'd like to see.
  18. I kind of guessed that the guy was changed into burning particles, but going from solid to gas would make him mimic the stone-to-smoke and diffuse outwards. If I remember correctly he appeared as flame for a moment, then vanished. Does soulcasting a living person change the way soulcasting conserves mass?l Was the man soulcast into something we haven't thought of yet?
  19. Feruchemy acts to protect the user from hurting themselves with their own power. Therefore your body is proportionatly strengthend to handle the stress of high-speed movement. There are two limitations to hitting things while Steelrunning. First, feruchemy protects the user internally to deal with internal force. In Steelrunning, the user's body is is toughend (especially the ligaments, tendons, and other musculature) to deal with the stress of rapid movement. Some of the toughness carries over to protect the user from external impact, but shielding from blunt trauma is not the same as strengthening ligaments to not rip themselves free from the bone. Second, you have to be careful how you hit someone at normal speed. If you don't know how to hit someone properly, you could hurt yourself more than you hurt them. Going back to my earlier point, if you hit someone wrong while steelrunning, the immense impact could do permanent damage. I can see steelrunners learning a form of martial art to maximize the damage they can deal before hurting themselves. Also, I noted earlier that being a thug/steelrunner would overcome the drawbacks by enhancing strength, endurance, durability, balance, reaction time... It's definitly my favorite twinborn ability.
  20. Tineye/Firesoul Masseuse. Tin to feel tension with the lightest touch, icy to dull the pain and hot to relax it away.
  21. Actually I think Iron and Steel were the ones to worry about, but only if they push or pull. Kelsier traced the geodes with steel, then pulled on the metal traces in thed delicate crystals causing them to shatter. It wasn't proximity to someone using allomancy.
  22. Annoyed maybe, but only mildly. You'd build the city out of cognitive bricks, Jasnah built a temporary raft pretty easily, two full orders of knight radiants could build a truely impressive city. New question for Brandon: "Can you eat cognitive waffles?"
  23. Is it possible to build a city that can only be accessed by utilizing the cognitive realm? Or build a city or structure that only exsists in the cognitive realm? (Since everyone else dismisses my Urithiru theory out of hand)
  24. Her family wasn't going to be poor, they were going to be bankrupt. And if the rest of roshar is anything to judge by, their creditors are going to collect rather violently if they don't have the money. In other words her family's goose is well and cooked without the mines a working soulcaster would provide. That and I felt Shallan's chapters were less about her being selfish and more about her struggling to resolve the timidity and hesitation that's been trained into her with the rebelliousness she comes by naturally. She can come off as wishy-washy if you don't read it right.
  25. The whole teleportation thing has me sold on it being somewhere in Shadesmar. Of course there would likely be a physical landmark too...
