  1. So I was just at the WJ signing at B&N, Brandon stated that as far as Movies for mistborn go, He has an actress who wants to play Vin, but no deals yet. He wouldn't say who though, has he mentioned this before?
  2. Should've looked at this thread before going to the WJ signing, we only asked a couple of those. Quick summary before someone put's up the whole Q+A list. Q: Telegraphs? A: They have coinshot messengers,so are slow to develop those technologies. They have not been invented as of AoL. Q:New Snapping? A: RAFO Q: Is Demoux "Thinker" from the purelake scene? A: Demoux is one of the three.
  3. Could be that the sea peoples have Chromium and Nicrosil, but not those in the Elendel Basin? We know they have them all when the second trilogy starts because:
  4. Considering how long it took to grow atium geodes in the pits themselves? Transplanting crystals would take decades at least to start producing anything. They would only be able to sneak out a few crystals at a time, making the mysterious atium cache very small. You could have someone take out a kandra, who demand to be paid in atium, and steal theirs. Might be an opportunity to introduce a kandra posing as a human looking for his 'friend' to aid the adventurers. (The plot thickens...)
  5. Light isn't distorted much, so I'd tend to think that at most the message would be distorted a little. And I'm starting to think that bendalloy and cadmium work more with Brandon's Special Cosmere physics than ours. Something to do with either the cognitive or spiritual realm. Weaknesses in the structure of the metal would cause it to deform unevenly, possibly separating into two pieces going either direction. In the case of a perfect metal sphere, It would guess that the 'blue line' is drawn from the coinshot's center of mass to the sphere's center of mass. flattening it in the center with a bulge around the outside. Water dumped to a cadmium bubble to quench a fire would move and extinguish the fire at cadmium speeds. As to how fire behaves inside a speed-bubble: How fast can slow air get through the 'barrier'? A fire would consume oxygen and fuel at a pace that seems normal to the misting inside. If air takes time to be drawn through the barrier by dispersion, the fire may use up all the oxygen in the bubble, and extinguish itself. The smoke would be cool to watch as it leaves the bubble, then freezes in place. If air moves easily into the bubble, then air would be drawn in as the fire consumes it a bendalloy speeds. Creating a little breeze.
  6. Footnote on my bucket list: If I ever become ridiculously rich and compelled to be buy something random, it would have to be an airship. No contest. Also, I believe Wax mentions that coinshots work as messengers. The broadsheet advertisement for electric lights reads "Send runner to [such and such address]" Presuming that 'runner' was put there on purpose, I'd say that these messengers are common. It wouldn't be too far a stretch to say that Wax could probably outrun a train if he had enough steel to burn. (I'm assuming that allomantic steel is fairly cheap.)
  7. Eccentricity's sake.
  8. If you don't take the easy route and make him a Keeper through Hemalurgy, just make him like Rashek. He's revered by his people as a keeper, yes. But it goes to his head. He sees himself a superior being, and should therefore rule over others. He's dissatisfied with the Terris population's humble ways and tries to incite his people against other Scadrians. If there are any other keepers, they try to subdue him and his followers without killing them. (because they're good guys and they need his bloodline) He escapes, and is trying to build himself up as a King.
  9. I maintain Vitality. Children in general don't actually have more or less vitality than a 20 to 30 year old, they just store it differently. A child's greatest vitality is their ability to grow and adapt on their physical and cognitive states. So you would be able to regress yourself to a child by tapping vitality, and the benefit is your increase your own ability to grow and adapt while keeping your full memory. How young a ferring can go while tapping vitality? I think they can regress to age zero: infant; after reaching that age, the tapped power would work differently. Maybe it starts decreasing their "normal" age permanently so that they're a few years younger when they stop tapping than when they started. After they hit zero again... I haven't thought that far yet.
  10. Final Empire: Breeze surrounded by the crew while everyone but him is speaking in eastern slang. Breeze turned to Dockson with exasperation. "I believe our companions have finally lost their minds, dear friend." Dockson shrugged. Then, with a perfectly straight face, he said, "Wasing not of wasing is.” Well of Ascension: My favorite part was when Zane called Tensoon by name and Vin realized that the person she'd trusted most in her investigation was the spy. Hero of Ages: Captain Goradel's death. It was kind of sad for me since I can picture his face as he dies. (I really can btw) Alloy of Law: I love when Wax is having his conversation with Harmony at the end of the book. He's lost his gun, been tossed around by dynamite, is losing the fight with Miles... Then he spies mistcloak tassels hanging out of the chest in front of him. "You're welcome."
  11. I think that's a very good point. It seems like it would be a key difference between Modern Scadrial and Present Earth. Why on earth would you watch a play/movie at home? Theaters are much more engaging.
  12. Sudden thought! A Cadmium savant would be able to really slow time down. If Marsh hasn't been sitting on his rear and somehow got himself a cadmium spike, he could slow down time for himself; effectively 'jumping' through time, making himself not have to use as much atium to stay young.
  13. I think so too. But a number of those parlors (or their equivalent) have dealt in opiates and drugs throughout history. I think it'd make a great base for a high-class thieving crew. Have a few smokers, some soothers, rioters, and duralumin ferrings, and they'd play puppet-master to their noble clients. They'd mostly deal in information and blackmail.

    Kandra Blessings

I tend to think that Inquizitors are in fact a different species. First, there is the quote by Sazed which seems pretty explicit. Second, they have 11 spikes. Even if Misting(allomantic) and Ferring(Feruchemic) spikes don't warp the subject as much as Human(Kandra Blessing) Spikes, 11 should be more than enough to warp them. Lastly, they may still be able to breed w/ humans even as a different species. Like the Koloss. Think of Inquizitors like lions that were magically changed into tigers. They can still breed with Lions, although the offspring won't really be either.
  15. Mind=Blown If this is true, this opens up another 16 possible effects for Doubles.
  16. Thanks for the merge, I don't know why I couldn't find this earlier. I thought it was weird that no one would've started a thread by now. Also, I composed a short poem in her honor! (Using the statement her son made for her when she couldn't make it to dragoncon.)
  17. I'm actually starting to like Sapping. It is similar to tapping, but not in a bad way, I think.
  18. I'd think that it would make for a weaker investment overall. The metal is what tells the power of Harmony what to do. If it's not pure, the message is muddled, and every aspect of using it for Feruchemy becomes more difficult.
  19. So I was browsing the internet after work today (as is my custom) and I stumbled onto a notice that Anne McCaffrey, most famous for her "Dragonriders of Pern" books, passed away last month. I loved her as a writer, and enjoyed nearly all of her books. In fact, "Dragonsinger" was the first book of hers that I read, and it was the book that spring-boarded me into my love of Sf/Fantasy. I'm sorry to hear that she's gone.
  20. I propose "Squeezing" . Silly yes, but it fits the bill.
  21. Yes erm... So I think that adding a hemalurgic spike to a ferring to improve their power should grant them more ability to squeeze? their metalminds for feruchemic juice. Without worrying about the pulp of diminishing returns.
  22. Personally I think flood rolls off the tongue better, but funnel is a bit more accurate. Poll?
  23. Has he patched the hole yet? I don't want my name to fall out.
  24. I guess it would depend on how much time was stretched. If you compare the timeshift to bendalloy bubbles. I remember reading twenty seconds in near an instant? How many bullets could a gunner get off in twenty seconds? By the time you notice the first bullet, there could be a lot more. And the hostage thing is a good point too. I suppose it's only plausible to shoot inside the bubble if you don't really care who gets hit.
  25. Wow, good call. That would make a lot more sense. The bullet, while transitioning back to normal time, hits "slow air" and gets deflected slightly.
