  1. The way he describes Ruin and Preservation in Secret History are both very Cosmic Horror-esque. The way they are the withering of the wind or a painting kept perfect for centauries, somewhat Cosmic Horror... and now Adonalsium is making me scared... Speaking of horror in Sandersons work (and derailing your thread even more... should we just make a PM so we stop derailing everything?) Is it only me or do the Kandra remind someone else of John Carpenters The Thing?
  2. Because everything needs a dash of Lovecraft. Im not being sarcastic, there is nothing that wont be better with a little bit of Cosmic Horror.
  3. No I like the idea of the beast wanting to eat them, that is really ambiguous. The ending can go either way there, though a giant carrion is a beautiful downer ending XD Now I just made you more confused XD
  4. I thought you were going to go "And see a giant carrion descending upon them". XD It feels a bit too... happy I guess. Sure you have the implication that they are just going to do the same mistakes all over again, but for the insects it is a very happy ending. It feels like all the problems are just suddenly solved, not because of something someone did, but because they were lucky. It feels a bit too much deus ex machina, you know. On the other hand, it is not a happy ending for the beast and there is that implication that they are just going to make all the same mistakes all over again. I think you could make it work. Just all my opinion, of course XD
  5. It is one of the coolest concepts Ive ever heard XD
  6. Start writing and it will be as long as it ends up being?
  7. Try some mythology, I love mythology myself.
  8. A couple things you could do is Write something on mythology anyway. Write something about greek theater and focus on mythology Write about a famous Samurai or whatever? Basically, stretch the assignment a little and take the fight later if they complain.
  9. Alice Isnt Dead, by the same writer. And Midnight Marinara, because I will keep recommending it DX Also Lore, Lore is great.
  10. Except "I wish I had thought of that"? The only pitfall I can see is getting too heavy handed with the environmental message, but other than that I really like it.
  11. No, he saw them and instantly knew that they were Adam and Eve.
  12. This explains everything.
  13. Have you ever wondered why my scary stories are so awesome? I just took a nightly walk and I think the answer is: "Because I am scared of everything" I decided to walk down the hill towards the school, realized that there is a small factory of somekind next to it. I have lived here for years so of course I knew it was there, I just havent realized how bizarre it is to have a small industrial building on a parking lot right next to a school before. I walked around on the school grounds for a minute, decide to sit in the gazebo that is for some reason on the playground, who puts a gazebo on a playground, seriously? I however dont go near it as it is obviously cursed or whatever. On my way back up the hill again a cat starts mewling at me, now my first reaction is to pet it, it is a cat, but it is also way past midnight and this is their domain. I will be cursed or something if I pet it. As I keep walking I see another cat, just chilling on the side walk, staring at me. I thought it was the same cat as previously for a minute. It wasnt, that would have made me even more paranoid. And finally, about 50 meters or so away from home there is a black cat, just looking at me. In review I was paranoid about An industrial building A gazebo Cats
  14. You are getting way too complicated. The answer is much easier than that.
  15. Lets see, I am reading Small Favor at the moment, I read way too much Lovecraft in my late teens, I have read Perdido Street Station, my favorite film is Spirited Away and I've watched the two first in the Dollars series. I am also really terrible at critiquing, but that is a minor detail, right? I havent read Moorcock, I should do that...
  16. A man dies and goes to heaven where everyone are naked. He sees a couple sitting under a tree, walks up to them and says "I see you must be Adam and Eve." How did he know?
  17. Yes, if we pretend there is a reason for something the reason needs to be some kind of true, otherwise it is a horrible reason. Im just going to write reason a few more times until reason stops looking like a real word for no real reason and then I will unreasonably link this because it is mildly related
  18. That's as good a reason as any. Are we though?
  19. This may have been the reason I felt obliged to welcome you- ... Why are we talking like this?
  20. I do believe so, yes~
  21. Ive gone on tangents about this before, but racism aside (we are all equally meaningless), Lovecraft was right. Same, the sheer weight of Cosmic Horror is just so powerful to me. The first time I read The Color Out Of Space (which is still among my favorites anythings ever) it blew me away. Oh yes, I am the self declared anthropomorphic personification of Weirdness, which sounds all fun and all, until you realize that Lovecraft is considered weird fiction, Night Vale is weird, House of Leaves is weird and so on. But I do usually just end up making really stupid jokes.
  22. I feel like I, as the resident Lovecraftian Horror need to welcome you.
  23. Someone thought that was hilarious, I just know someone thought that was really witty It made me laugh so I guess it kinda is...
