Not insisting, just stating that i found it an odd scenario but i'm with you on Vin's earring. Granted, she was oddly strong allomancer anyway but it still is weird EDIT: Found this WoB about the Piercing's purpose Emphasis mine. I'm definitely leaning towards ritual sacrifice now, perhaps even a willing one, especially if a religious sect or something similar managed to acquire/interpret the corrupted prophecies. Makes me wonder if there was some sort of tome/tablet of Haemalurgical practices/methods during this era, which would explain as how they knew what to do.
-
True it doesn't, but I just found it an odd scenario. It could just simply be, that when stealing human attributes that the Law of Decay may just affect them differently (or at least at a slower rate)

A Semi-Objective Look at a Herald's Identity
ParadoxicalZen replied to Witborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it would allow for perfect recognition of sound deviations. So he knows what Alethi spoken by a native and foreigner sounds like, so even if it was someone who had learned Alethi well enough to speak it like a Native, there may have been still a slight trace of accent imperceptable to even the most keen eared folk -
Well, even though norm spikes and blessings are both Haemalurgical in nature, yet given how they differ, it could offer some (very little but still) explanation. Do we have confirmation that Haemalurgic Decay is total, meaning do spikes decay until there is no charge left or is it more like radioactive half-life where it'll keep decaying until it stabilises?

A Semi-Objective Look at a Herald's Identity

Hmm...broken nails...do we have a description of the man who is presumed to be Kalak in either of the Gavilar's death POV's? -
Weren't the blessings two spikes combined/paired or am i just remembering wrongly (again)? If i'm not and that is the case, perhaps that could offer some resistance to decay (don't ask how, but blessings are different from normal spikes). It is interesting where the first/second/third/etc.etc. get the spikes to make new generations (or was that covered in book?)

I like Argent's explanation. Presence probably does grant a certain degree of mental acuity/fortitude, a capacity for incredibly rational/logical thought or perhaps the ability to compartmentalise your thoughts via awareness. As for the example of Elantris, Kandra have very different physical bodies, and so very different phsyiological processes, to what we see of Humans in general. I think the Blessing of Stability was created as defense against Allomantic/Ruin influence, especially in regards to Kandra, seeing as the only way Vin could effect TenSoon in anyway significantly was through a Duralamin powered push. SA/Elantris With the pewter/tin thing, surely you could also argue that the brain is part of the body, notably one of the most important, so surely it should also be enhanced. I see it as a Realmatic combination/puzzle idea; Body is the Physical, Mind/Senses are more linked to the Cognitive and together they represent your Spiritual Ideal/Form which fuels both aspects.

I think it is a tricky one. We haven't really seen anything in-book of what happens when a Parshmen is around normal Spren (have we even seen any Parshmen in a highstorm at all?) + I think one of the songs from the epigraphs (or it might have been in-book dialogue) was that Parshendi in whatever Voidform willingly (however much willpower it may have took to resist Odium's influence, going from Eshonai's POV) forsook them to become Parshmen so as Pulse said, it could be their lack of bond will make it easier for Voidspren to force their way into the 'lock mechanism' that allows the Listener's to bond with Spren, whereas if the Listener has a form already, it looks like it has to be a conscious choice.

A Semi-Objective Look at a Herald's Identity
ParadoxicalZen replied to Witborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Is there a seperate description for when the man arrived and when Shallan visits the institution, or is it in the same scene? -
Question: Were the Piercings of the Hero confirmed as actually ear piercings? Could they have been something like a lip/nose ring or perhaps dermal piercings (or maybe Alendi was a huge fan of body modding and got metal spikes implanted) Or something similar to TLR's arm bands? Personally I'm a fan of the Ritual Killing/Sacrifice method (although it would help if we actually knew the rate of Haemalurgic Decay) Do we even know if Haemalurgy was known of pre-FE (maybe as a hushed, Dark Alley, hand-gesture-to-ward-against-evil kinda thing)?

Wonder if Hoid stole/borrowed TLR's?

This fourth law only being related to Adonalsium....fascinating!

Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is why i think a Bondsmith is involved. Granted we know little of their capabilities and abilities, but given that Ishar created the oaths to organise the Surgebinders into one cohesive force, it isn't too far of a leap to guess that Bondsmiths could perhaps be included in the mending of a Nahel Bond or at least sever it completely to set the Spren free. As to how...well, we could speculate for hours on end and get nowhere But Brandon's explanation of Kaladin healing his soul-severed arm brings to mind an interesting idea: the stormlight forms a blank soul patch over the severed spirit web section, like a skin graft. (or perhaps a more apt analogy could be enzymes/substrates and the 'lock and key' mechanism) so maybe something that can act as a substitute long enough to sever the bond maybe? Bah, damnation you Mr Sanderson and your billion-and-one questions!!! EDIT: Another interesting WoB on theoryland got RAFO'd when asked What the effect of a Nahel Bond is on Lifespan -
Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
Not so much the key, more like knowledgeable of Spren Bonds, especially as he more than likely knew Ishar personally going by the vision. I am 99% convinced a Bondsmith is involved somehow, mainly due Ishar being their patron Herald as well as being the architect behind the bonds. Hmm, that provides another line thought... -
So what exactly are halfshards
ParadoxicalZen replied to InstantWalrus's topic in Stormlight Archive
Don't forget the Oathgate locks aren't affected either and I thought Half-Shards only proved mildy effective against Shardblades (well Honourblade in this case) I need to re-read that Szeth scene again.- 19 replies

A Semi-Objective Look at a Herald's Identity
ParadoxicalZen replied to Witborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm of the opinion it might be Ishar. Given he was the Patron of the Bondsmiths (and apparently of Luck too), breaking any sworn Oath can't be good for you. -
Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
Interesting thought train: I was trawling through Theoryland when i came across a WoB about how a person thinks Nohadon might be alive, along with the possibility of him being a Bondsmith (in relation to my earlier point of how the original bladeholder may still be alive) Granted it is a stretch especially with how the WoB turned out, but if this could be the case, and should Nohadon still be alive + be a Bondsmith, then it could be a coup-de-grace plot point of how to turn back all the half-dead Spren -
Trying to find where i read it, but i can't remember if it was direct WoB or if it was topic based (hence why i said "I believe"). I think it was more to do with each Order's qualities, the way each Radiant varied from the next and how each specific Radiant manifested the Order's qualities. So like not all Windrunners were just fighters (probably most though), not all Elsecallers were just scholars etc. etc. and that Shardplate was optional depending on your preference. (This is going to bug me now, I'll root around on theoryland, see what i can dig up, but i think it was on here) As for the topic, I'm not sure she will, but I'd say if she did, it'd be towards late book, or even as far as it would be in the 4th book (maybe even never). I'm more interested in what it could be than anything. What else is she denying!!

Not all Radiants wore plate, I believe, although it would be entertaining to see her stumbling around in it

Week #1 of Roshar Fact of the Week!
ParadoxicalZen replied to Blightsong's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'd say it is probably a blend of the two, but more the Shardpool given it's proximity to the Cognitive realm. -
Perhaps it wasn't so much as Worldhopping but more Worldglimpsing (granted this is just an idea) like seeing through a window or something (perhaps using Endowment's Shardpool? major leap but it could be possible) EDIT: Interesting thought; When the Heralds 'broke' the Oathpact, wasn't it theorised they could be worldhoppers. Granted, they did abandon their blades so it would have been hard for Vasher to imitate/copy one had they Worldhopped to Nalthis. Would Nightblood be closer to an Honourblade than a Sprenblade? EDIT 2: In relation to my above comment, found this particular WoB (context is a little vague but it is interesting) It could be taken literally and metaphorically, in that Vasher has a very long association with Roshar prior to WoK or in the way Brandon said above. Interesting EDIT: >.> Found another, though the footnote is more interesting than anything

The status of Aether of Night
ParadoxicalZen replied to WeiryWriter's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I would like to know about the Aether magic system (and that WoP) but i'm not particular interested in the story. Would it be possible for one of the Admins who has read them to inbox me a brief summary of it? (If not, that is totally understandable) -
By the morale point, I could have sworn there was a very very small mention of should a Koloss not be in a bloody frenzy and it realised it was in an winnable situation, it was possible for them to feel fear? Or do i have hyperactive imagination and completely imagined that whole scen. (I don't know, i'm due a re-read soon anyway). In terms of Lifeless management though, surely they'd have messengers to relay order Commands otherwise i doubt the commanders would be able to read the flow of the battle? (the original assumption of one person was purely because in Warbreaker, it seemed like they just ordered the Lifeless to just march on Idris, no mention of setting up a command tent up upon arrival or any other human company were going with them etc etc) But wasn't Ruin's control broken when he was weaker, because not even Vin or Elend could have ripped away the control of them and Ruin seemed to display perfect control even when they were blood frenzied at the last battle. Yeah, i meant reach. ^^

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ParadoxicalZen replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Was Hoid on good terms with Aona/Skai? Was Elantris (the book) Hoid's first time visiting Sel, and if not, did he ever converse with/interact with Aona/Skai? Again, if it wasn't his first time, what connection does he have with the Enefel? Are you going to post more History of Aons? Have we seen Hoid's 'real' appearance? A Dysian Aimian; are they an 'experiment' by Cultivation? Have we seen Nohadon (the author of in-book WoK) before Dalinar's vision? -
Well...to be fair, dangerous could apply anything a Shard is capable of and in essence, she is right to an extent. Seeing the future isn't something Honour/Tanavast was really good at (as in Honour is how you are acting presently and the like), especially compared to Cultivation (using the best method for the situation to achieve the best results) Seeing as Syl (and honourspren in general) are 99.9% likely to be one of the pure Honour-invested spren species, the reason why she refers to Foresight as dangerous is probably because the actions one might take as a result of what has been seen (preemptive strikes, acting/judging before anything has even been done etc) might not fit with the Windrunner oaths and ethics. As for Voidbringing futuresight; the Unmade, Moelach, is hinted at being behind the Death-Rattles as well as being the most skilled at Precognition among the Unmade, so presuming that there is a void/Odiumspren the Parshendi can bond that may come from Moelach, Vorin faith might have appropriated this and made it part of their Dogma. Would explain why they didn't vouch for the Truthwatchers given the whole Radiant's 'betrayal' etc.
