  1. You felt so sick.. and then you came over to the shard I am sure half the humanity were decedents of one type of raiders (viking or not). We came and took over from all the dinosaurs, who really could have made a fist of developing a brain at some point after millions of years. But yeah, nuclear holocaust type weapons shattering Natanatan might be it to cause mass disarmament...
  2. I thought of this one, "I will protect others even when facing some who I care about" Somehow, I think the Moash bout was about Kaladin facing the fact that he cared about Moash. He didn't. So, I think in facing Moash again is where the next ideal going to come.
  3. It was such a big secret that it must never be known by the Radiants as the back cover proclaims. Yet, here we are, people found out about it, and other than Nale, nobody else cares. It's sad, it's mildly shocking. But really, most people will say, "Ancient History! Blah blah!" and move on. It is such a big secret that besides someone asking what it was, nobody who's read the book has bothered to make a thread about it until now. So, is it a case of the "so-called" secret being only part of a bigger one? That it affects the future. Otherwise, I don't know why all the Radiants would also drop their oaths. Here we have Jasnah willing to kill the Heralds to eliminate the risk of desolations. I don't expect her to drop Ivory just because a really old document says that human beings are voidbringers. What are your thoughts?
  4. Moons have specific meanings. The second moon was speculated to refer to Honor. http://stormlightarchive.wikia.com/wiki/Nomon
  5. I knew it but didn’t recall it, until an earlier post by @Rydersaid Nazh and I thought, OK, go with that. But @Ryder did pick up the 9 quote by Moash as well. @Argent - thanks for pointing out the repetition in WoR and WoK. This got mentioned in the Oathbringer typos section (particularly the repetition bit) and Peter will bring it up with Brandon! EDIT: FWIW - The voidbinding chart has 10 symbols... so I dunno. My original question was around 9 unmade vs. 10 orders...
  6. Arcanum Unbounded or Ars Arcanum? Anyways, even WoR’s Ars Arcanum mentioned 10 levels of voidbinding...
  7. Oathbringer- A very apt title for a book which makes you swear A LOT with the surprises and twists. A great book. An ode to epic fantasy. Brandon’s writing was brilliant and had some great highlights, particularly in part 3 and 4 with a very poignant Dalinar oath in Part 5. Chapter 74, 75 and 76 are some of the most powerful chapters except the ending of Part 3. Elhokar's death is an unexpected blow and so is the capture of his son at that point. Hoid was muted somewhat, but I think the whole book high octave that there was very little space for even Wit to loosen up. Secrets galore and revelations truly mind boggling. But, there is a royal “But-t” It felt as if the weight of feedback, requests and expectations got better of Brandon, resulting in a book that is too eager to please at times. Indulgent in Part 1, tightening up in Part 2, explosive in part 3, scattered in part 4 and dragging after an awesome fight climax in part 5. The indulgence in Part 1 meant that the story lagged and had to be rushed somewhat in other parts of the book. And then the trip in Shadesmar to Celebrant was redundant and could have been skipped to give more writing time to Part 5. Part 5 is where Brandon’s central idea shows his brilliance. But there were big stumbles in my view with the Szeth storyline with boulder sized plot holes due to his part being under-cooked. · Szeth comes and starts helping and Dalinar/Jasnah are quick to accept his help. · Kaladin harangued Shallan just because she took her boots. Yet, no consequence for Szeth turning up. · No one questioning Kaladin who had claimed that Szeth was dead. · Szeth becoming Dalinar’s bodyguard despite Dalinar having enough. · No other kingdoms wanted to put a bounty on Szeth’s head? Really? · Szeth tells Nale that he’s going after the Shin. Yet, now, he’s standing around being Dalinar’s bodyguard – so that Dalinar can go to a bloody wedding reception. · I’d been surprised if Dalinar had let Szeth stay if Szeth had mentioned the other Honorblades · Szeth hasn’t told Dalinar about Taravangian · Dalinar is happy to have Szeth – when they have fought a bloody war for 6 years just coz Szeth killed Dalinar’s brother, and effectively started the whole desolation (Dalinar wouldn’t have known about the rest of the things going on). That whole Szeth scenario was bizarre, and needed more polish. That mealy-mouthed end to Part 5 which dragged forever after the big fight with Odium is why the entire book felt unfinished. I lay the blame on people chastising Brandon for Jasnah’s return in WoR. Such a great plot device. I loved it and I am sure others did too. Sometimes if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Brandon, I felt, tried to fix WoR and in a bigger book with a wider scope, resulting in some mis-steps. So, in summary, it is a great book, but I am struggling with the concept of re-reading it. It was a daunting read with the size, and I loved every minute of it. But next time, I’d prefer a smaller book with more tightness around the edges from Brandon. My criticism is an honest view for my favourite author and I would still recommend this series and serious love for all the characters. Oathbringer is still a great book, but just not the best one of the Stormlight Archive. · Some of my favourite quotes are below.
  8. And yet, Jasnah doesn’t pick up wards easily....
  9. Still voidbinding is 10 orders. So, it’s not always 9. I have a wild guess that the unmade were the worldsingers corrupted by Odium. Sja-anat specifically mentions, “We were made, then unmade”. So, definitely corrupted spren.
  10. I think Hoid is stuck with Cultivation’s perpendicularity under siege by Odium. No way to escape and re-enter on another planet without the perpendicularity...
  11. I posted some in my reviews of each part But this one is from part 5...
  12. I was just speculating on discord. See, the king’s sword that Elhokar had 10 symbols on it for each order, making it unique. Perhaps the sword had some significance to it related to the weilder, irrespective of the order.
  13. Not sure. Can’t find that quote. I think Nazh wouldn’t write something if he wasn’t sure of it.
  14. 10 levels of voidbinding? Why the 9 shadows then? All those niners are just for the unmade only then?
  15. We just have to find the well of ascension here.
  16. Shallan - got a splinter stuck in me joke with Kaladin Lift/nightblood - Lift telling Crazyface and Nightblood asking if Lift can explain the meaning of certain obscenities she’s shouting.
  17. I can see Taravangian being a Gollum like character from LoTR. Helps kill the big baddie inadvertantly
  18. Or maybe Eshonai is stuck in the Rosharan CR?
  19. Guys... great audiobook! Enjoyed heaps and the had a few red eye moments in there. But, just one bit at the end. The audiobook does not include the endnote ketek as shown in the book version. Did anyone else notice that? I'll have a much longer review of the audiobook later on...
  20. I am still to finish part 5. Listening to audio is much slower than reading it.
  21. I loved this part. This part was wine, like old wine. This part reminded me of John Green's "The fault in our stars" a bit. Some great quotes that thankfully I bookmarked:- ... .. Great passages that I wonder we have passed in our haste to read the entire book and this part had aplenty. I felt as if there were so much to say in this part that Brandon really had to tease it in a highlight reel. Yet, when you get down to it, as I quoted above, some awesome passages. I don't think any fantasy book writer besides Lois McMaster Bujold has gone into such depth of emotion in this genre. Oh, and btw, the secret of the recreance comes out. The secret of Taln's abandonment came out - I don't know whether that was this part or part 3. The dawnchant gets translated. And Dalinar has apparently met Cultivation - and my favourite suspect is Evi for anything (EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A BODY!). Hopefully I find out in the next part. Vivs says goodbye. Adolin's shard's dead spren. There must be some significance to it. Kaladin still hasn't resolved. Shallan got another sugar hit from Adolin after one from Hoid. Come on Shallan! And Jasnah - are you always going to be a cameo? Lift - I miss Wyndle.
  22. Mid-way through Part 4 of the book, and it came to me. The book's title is Oathbringer coz you swear so much through the entirety of the book (same as your review)!
