  1. Is the implication that Eshonai survives?
  2. Is it possible that Taln is actually a title? And the the guy is the last wielder of the title of Taln?
  3. I think it's interesting that the thrill affects some and not others. In the fight between Adolin and Eshonai, Adolin is not affected but Eshonai is clearly taken over. Someone else can maybe provide the direct quote from WoR.
  4. Thanks, btw. I did finish Lies of locke lamora as I promised. Thankfully, it did have some redeeming features. Still, it wasn't enough to interest me to try the next volume if there was any.Have you had a chance at trying Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold (as per my original post).
  5. Eddings is cliche and fantasy by the numbers writer. Also, restate my earlier post about avoiding orson scott card other than for Ender's game. He recently ruined his new gate thief series. Apparently, 14 year olds want to impregate themselves just because the protagonist has some time travel powers. :thumbsd:
  6. If you read my original post - I am only saying it's not offensive for someone to seek treatment. You are OK with how you are - and I say power to you. But at the same time, you are getting offended if others seek it for themselves or their loved ones. No point blaming society. Being toilet trained, able to point something with your finger, socialise, not be freaked out by light, being able to go to a dark cinema hall, are pretty basic things. We can choose not to do any of them, but everyone should have the capability to do those things if it is possible by therapy, etc. Thanks maxal - exactly what I said above. It is OK for people to be OK with it, and it is OK for other people to seek treatment.
  7. I think there are two issues. One is showing respect to individuals with autism. They are not diseased. It's like they have a slightly mangled little finger (not the best comparison). No one would hold or should hold anything against them. Would you try to help anyone straighten a mangled finger, if you are their parent and they are a kid or if they wanted to? Absolutely. @maxal. One of my kids is mildly autistic, so I have some idea, even if I am not autistic myself.
  8. I wouldn't call it offensive, atleast IMO. ASD can be debilitating until people learn how to cope. It is something worth investing medical dollars to prevent / treat.
  9. Just checked the progress bar on brandon's site. He is at 28 percent. Just makes me think his progress speed means It might be early 2017 when stormlight 3 comes out. This is because brandon will still do side projects. Also, there's a lag between book being completed and it being published (3-6 months). So I am assuming a late 2016 completion with proofreads/editing increasing the time lag to publish date.
  10. Just read up on Genghis Khan on wikipedia... urgh. Dalinar is an angel compared to him!
  11. We digress into AOL, but remember the scene where wax is pinned and ge asks for some help, up pops up sigzil giving a comFort power boost to Wax.
  12. To be honest,Warbreaker jarred a fair bit. The whole skirt thing was strange. Restaurant was one of my jarring concerns in that one. Alloy of law jarred when cosmic help came on demand in the climax. Mistborn - yeah we get it - ash is falling from the sky. I liked almost all the books that Brandon's written, but yeah, I am only discussing SA here.
  13. Look - That's neither here or there. Roshar is not earth. That reason can be applied for saying anything. Maybe they are really advanced and can launch rockets. I would say that goes against how their technological progress has been portrayed. But what do I know. After all, Roshar is not earth and maybe they can launch rockets. All I am saying is that the word didn't fit in my view. I acknowledged in my original post that it might just be me, but the word, given its strong recent origin, ie nearabouts the French Revolution just didn't work for me.
  14. I agree that restaurant is a common word. In fact I would struggle myself to find a modern equivalent. But, I would struggle to find a historical equivalent for the word laser as well. My point is that the word sounded too modern and out of place owing to the clear french origin. No, I am not from USA. I've read a lot of these swords and dragon type books and have never seen the word restaurant used.
  15. I also listen to the audiobook version, but I would say that the narrators have got this one wrong. The " r" is silent because of the french connection. It was just the other day that JK Rowling confirmed on twitter that Voldemort should be a silent "t" owing to french pronunciation. And that was after 8 movies were made with the wrong pronounciation!!
  16. Maybe i am being picky. This one really grated for the use of the word "restaurant". It just jarred - Brandon could have used the word eateries, but the french word felt quite out of place.
  17. Thank you for picking my bad on the years up.
  18. Well, they can also avoid the everstorms by switching back between Urithiru and the shattered plains when the storm is near.
  19. The first quote was I am wondering if the first quote is an world hopping breath system of warbreaker?Just the whole Szeth revival and nightblood references all popping up in my mind. Plus wandersail is such a similar naming convention to say lightsong?
  20. Either way, it's your loss I guess you'll have to force yourself to be alive and despite being serious, schedule some off time for the book For the second one, I can suggest using audiobook version during a commute. But, the rest is up to you PS hot tip: becoming a serious person with little time is a lot better than dying.
  21. Well, I just did some math. At (2.5 years, x 7 books) + (1.5 year x 1 book), it'll be 19 years until the series finishes in 2044! Also wondering about the titles. The first two books were titles of books within each of the novels. Oathbringer if finalised as the title would be an interesting change. It might also be worth wondering, if the title has a second meaning to suggest something promoting more oath taking?
  22. Interesting that you mention a sect. Hallaran also tried to join skybreakers apparently.I wonder if Shallan's mother was part of the skybreakers... And tried to kill Shallan to avoid a desolation.
  23. Personally, I felt that generally a lot of scenes which needed more explanation, got pushed into the following book, when they could have stayed in the original book. So, one ends up with this huge rush at the end in both books, that we end up just rereading the last few chapters for a few words. + WoK was too dry at the start. And the whole Kaladin the slave story line was so predictable/cliche. It could have been done faster. Instead the below would have served better. + A lot of the explanations came in WoR. I thought the most powerful scene in WoR was:- This scene should have sat next to Shallan's disclosure in WoK where she discloses to . + Perhaps more viewpoints could have been added. I know Sadeas got a POV in WoR, but it would have been great to see some more of Amaram's POV, e.g. when Kaladin was betrayed in WoK. + I think one of Jushu/Naan Balat got a POV interlude in WoK. It would have been interesting to see their POV in WoR as well. I suspect they will get more in "Oathbringer/SA3".
  24. Everyone has said it already. WoK drags in the start and the middle with a thrilling finish. WoR will keep you glued though. I listened to the audio version and WoR is 10 times the quality of WoK. A whole lot of action, rather than just character background stories...
