  1. A good healthy dose of Iron is absolutely necessary for human survival, putting grass into a cookie is just a travesty.

I'm willing to overlook your hateful comments this time because you used the word "travesty" correctly. I bow before you.

    Have an upvote, gon.

  2. Warbreaker is a tropical setting, but admittedly it doesn't come into play very often. Still, that doesn't matter because, in my opinion, it is the best cosmere book.

...Though for maximum effect, I recommend reading it after you finish the Mistborn trilogy. For... reasons.

    Anyway, welcome!

You know, until I read this post, I completely forgot about the tropicality fact that Warbreaker has a tropical setting.

  3. I'm not sure what, exactly, you're saying no to, but I would like to point out that even after Preservation died, the mists on Scadrial still "worked"  I'm not saying that there might or might not be differences, and honestly I think the stormlight is more analogous to the mists than the Honorblades are, but I have yet to see a reason why it's impossible for honorblades to cease working after Honor was splintered, even if they were a part of him.

Especially since we know that they work. Szeth used one.

One more thing, is there a list of forum commands/posting tips grouped together somewhere, like for inserting images (I saw the button though) and spoilers (no button?) and such? I searched and couldn't find it. If there's not, that might make a good sticky for newcomers.

That's a good idea. You should PM Chaos or one of the other moderators to start something like that...probably...i really have no idea.

You can't use those on tablet, however

  5. That doesn't quite address Titan's concern... he's not suggesting that Mr. Sanderson doesn't full-well KNOW the answers to the questions. He's pointing out how often someone will ask a question about one book, character, magic or item, and get an answer that is clearly in reference to something else. When it's obvious, we catch it. The point is, however, that the existence of misunderstandings proves that they can happen, and we can't know we've caught every single one. Perhaps there were nuances to the question asked that Mr. Sanderson misunderstood, but the answer he gave sounds like it could fit the question, so we think it's fine and let it go.

Under most circumstances, I'm willing to accept WoB as canon, especially when it's clear, specific, and unequivocal. In a case like Honorblades, however, when he's contradicted and corrected himself so many times... well, it proves that in the past, we've either misunderstood him, he misspoke, or he simply changed his mind since. Or, one of a number of other reasons that might lead to miscommunication. Since one of those has happened in the past, it proves it's possible it happened again. In an instance like this, with such clearly ambiguous WoB, I feel like picking one or two things that support our personal theory and saying, "This is the WoB that's true, all the others are wrong" doesn't have a great deal of support.

    Aaaaaamen.

  6. Thanks everyone! I have only recently started to read the Sanderson, almost done with the Mistborn series now... I am quite a slow reader but completely hooked already. I really like the first one especially.

And glad I perked up your day inexorablePanda, what a ...Pandamonium we have here!

    Indeed we do.

  7. I have to agree with Moogle here Arthur Dent. I have a personal theory that Honorblades aren't related to Spren at all, but are rather unique and more like Nightblood - heavily invested swords.

You've been confirmed correct on that as far as I know. We know that spren were trying to copy the Honorblades, which, we can assume, where invested by Honor.

That's interesting about the perception of the summoning. Thanks Blaze.

  8. I know Sanderson is very scientific when creating his magic systems, but I think we're really doing in that first part of your argument is disagreeing over the exact definition of "catalyst." I probably used the term incorrectly, and I'd even go so far as to say Sanderson probably used the term incorrectly, as well. I can't speak for him, obviously, but the point was I was trying to really make is the idea of having a "gate" and a "pipe," where the actual allomancy is fueled by the "pipe" and the metal is the "gate," and the allomantic powers that you actually see can be affected by the size of the pipe and the size of the opening in the gate.

Thanks for that terminology. That visual is going to help me out a lot when discussing Allomancy. I've just been saying "gate" and forgetting about the "pipe".
