The Heralds (namely Taln and Ash) will get their time in the back five, probably other Heralds too with smaller roles. I've been thinking about this non-stop so, current take: Group one: 1. Kaladin - group 1a) 2. Adolin - group 1a) 3. Szeth (minor POVs) - group 1a) 4. Renarin (minor POVs) - group 1a) 5. Venli - group 1b) --> Primary plotline: Fight the Desolation! Group two: 1. Rock 2. Shallan --> Secondary plotline: What's going on in the Peaks? Group three: 1. Dalinar 2. Navani --> Tertiary plotline: Getting Taln and Ash back on track! They also will have insight on how Jasnah copes as queen and how they're trying to make Urithiru a safe haven for refugees. Groups 2 + 3 could swap roles easily. Originally, group one was four people and group two three. My guess is that Adolin was supposed to be group two but Brandon decided he'd better work in group one. Jasnah doesn't have a main role here, just as Lift doesn't. They're around, they probably will have small POV chapter (like during the OB climax), but they won't be first line of defense. I don't have Lirin listed as well even though he has a POV in the very first chapter (if Brandon doesn't scrap that). But having one POV in the entire book doesn't make for a main character, and I can't imagine Lirin is going to stick around with group one through the whole book and fight Desolations. He's more likely going to stay in Hearthstone.

Yeah. These refugees are from Herdaz. No mention of Kholinar at all. Also, wasn't this a reading from the first chapter? So we have absolutely no idea where Kaladin will be later on.

That is of Lirin in Hearthstone. I don't think there's any confirmation of Kaladin in Kholinar.

Did I miss a reading involving Kaladin in Alethkar?

I prefer Venli over Eshonai. I liked Eshonai fine in WoR but during OB I came to like Venli as well and her viewpoints would serve the same purpose as Eshonai's in terms of listener lore and life and bring us more info about the Cosmere. Also, Eshonai's dead. There's no need to get more attached to her than necessary.

Very good points, buuuuuuuut. According to the current update group 3 hasn't been written yet and Brandon did a short reading of a scene from Venli's POV. So Venli likely isn't group 3.

So group one could be divided into subgroups 1a and 1b, both being involved with the same plotline and maybe team up eventually? That would certainly work.

I agree that Kaladin is most certainly group one, same as Dalinar likely will be group three. I'm inclined to agree with you on Jasnah being group three as well since she (likely) knows so much about All Things Roshar and the Cosmere in general that it would be hard to have lots of viewpoints from her while at the same time keeping things secret we're not supposed to know at this point. I tried to think about this a bit as well and currently I believe the following would make sense: Group one: 1. Kaladin 2. Adolin 3. Shallan 4. Venli 5. Lirin? (He does have a POV in the first chapter after all) (Not Moash, puhlease not Moash! Couldn't he die in a tragic accident between books?) Group two: 1. Jasnah 2. Renarin --> Trying to figure out the nature of Renarin and Glys' bond Group three: 1. Dalinar 2. Szeth One could switch groups 2 & 3 here, depending on the weight of the plotlines. Where would Lift fit in? She's still rather young, so she might be stepping back for a while? On the other hand: I can hardly imagine Venli being with the other characters in group one? How would that work? Did they officially team up between books? It reads as if the members of each group will be in the same place most of the time. So, while I believe it would make sense if Venli is in group one (it's her book after all!) it would make more sense if she were in separate group from the "main five". So Venli in group two? With whom? She can't possibly be group 3. And I can hardly imagine her not being present in part five.

I'm one of those extremely common Kaladin people. Well. But Jasnah and Renarin have potential. And Lift's POVs are a delight.

Are we talking about a hypothetical scenario in which there are no ways of determining the newcomer's status? Because regardless of eyecolour there's always things like: - clothing - a blind person would still be wearing clothes according to their status - overall health - if you're lighteyed you likely have better access to medical help if needed - mannerism - it would be hard for most lighteyes to convincingly act "darkeyed" and vice versa. Best example: Kaladin in OB. So even if someone stumbles into town, maybe a lighteyes who has been robbed on the way and is the sole survivor of their group and seeks help, looking all disheveld and dirty and not at all like a lighteyed person should look, it's not going to be hard to find out where they came from.

Chances are good if he keeps it up like this. I think Brandon said he would need to finish 1st draft by early 2020 for a christmas 2020 release. Maybe we'll meet the 50% mark by the end of august?
