  1. I'm gonna go ahead and assume you meant "Rappers"
  2. Is their a source for the table of Hemalurgic Properties found on The Coppermind? Specifically on this page. A couple of them point to sources from the Mistborn Adventure Game, which I understood to be non-canon as far as the Metallic Arts go. Are the rest from an Ars Arcanum from one of the books? I don't have access to them currently.
  3. Asymptotic to 0 makes a lot of sense to me, as does the actual ironmind itself restricting the amount you can decrease. I enjoyed Wax's discovery of the principles of rocketry (even if he didn't realize it), but it seems like this isn't the path that will get us to Allomantic FTL travel. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
  4. Does anybody know if there are limits on the amount you can decrease your weight? Like, can you make yourself completely massless?
  5. I had a great time at the signing tonight. Didn't really get a chance to say hi to anyone because I showed up late and had to leave as soon as I got my books signed, but I did have time for a couple questions. Not sure where else I should post these. The wording is as close as I can remember. Q: How much of Nightblood's personality and effects come from the Command he was given? A: A moderate amount Not much info there, unfortunately. I did a little better on the second try. Q: When someone is inside a time bubble where time is going faster, do they age more quickly than they would outside? A: Yes. Q: So there's a sort of relativistic effect going on there? A: Yes, I tried to keep it as close as possible to the actual effects. The only thing I didn't include, I think, is the red-shift of light when it leaves the bubble, because that would irradiate everything around it. That's very interesting to me, personally. I had no idea how much physics Brandon knows, or how much research he does when creating these systems. But together with the question above about spren and subatomic particles, I have some theories to craft. If you'll excuse me, I need to go do some calculations...
  6. Someone in another thread asked about people using Shardblades without arms and it was postulated that (WoR spoiler) , and I immediately thought of the Winter Soldier from the Marvel-verse
  7. As a Boston-based Sanderfan, I'd love to do a meetup somewhere in New England. Philly is a little far for me, but I could probably swing it with some planning.
  8. Just watched the most recent episode (The Dirty Half-Dozen) and really, really enjoyed it. I like Ward so much more as a bad guy than I ever did as a member of the team. Plus I thought the action sequence that was all one shot was probably the single best fight scene of the whole series so far.
  9. Except for anyone who can compound Atium or any Returned, as long as they have enough of their respective resource to survive (atium and Breath). Kandra as well, for that matter. So the recipient of the letter could be any of these three, in addition to other magical methods I'm forgetting or we're not aware of yet.
  10. Honestly, I never really think about it in terms of momentum and force as physics concepts. I think of Steelpushing and Ironpulling sort of like learning to throw a baseball or run on a rocky path. There are definitely physics concepts involved as to the mechanisms behind the actions, but that isn't how the brain thinks of them. Baseball players don't think "how much force do I need to throw the ball with in Newtons", they just practice until their brain makes the connection between the visual distance and the muscular force involved. That's how I imagine the strength of the Allomantic abilities. Some people have more raw strength to draw from (stronger Allomancer like Elend or The Lord Ruler), but everyone practices their Allomantic muscles to learn to judge the strength needed instinctively. So you can push a coin with just enough strength to sting, or you can push it hard and have it rip through someones bones (if you have a lot of control like Kelsier). Just a like a baseball player could toss a ball at your arm and have it lightly hit or throw as hard as they can and possibly break your bones.
  11. I emailed a month or two ago and I haven't heard back, but I assume things are just busy over in Sanderson-land.
  12. That's an awesome theory! I could totally see all of that being the case and I would definitely freak out in the theater if that happened. I'd say it's definitely a solid possibility given that the Russo Brothers are directing both Civil War and Infinity War, I wouldn't be surprised if they're more closely tied together.
  13. I thought the movie was pretty good as a stand-alone superhero action movie. The fight scenes were very well done and lots of Trademark Whedon Witty Dialogue. Spader definitely did a great job as Ultron and as much as I hate the trope of "They weren't dead after all", I would love to see more from him. As far as being a movie set in a shared universe, I thought it didn't do quite as well. I've watched everything from the MCU (except maybe The Incredible Hulk I think) and I'm all caught up on Agents of SHIELD. Maybe there was some material that got cut out in editing, but I was really curious how the setup of the movie was going to affect and be affected by the status quo from Agents of SHIELD and I was disappointed that they didn't really touch on that at all. I think I'm probably spoiled from reading Cosmere stuff and I expect too much from a project with so many authors writing for it, but I really felt like Whedon just didn't care about putting in anything to that effect, even just a line or two explaining how we got to where we are. Any of the scenes involving various characters and lifting Thor's Hammer were gold (I think there are like three or four total places where it comes up). That was a really good running plot throughout and it paid off well with Vision picking it up. Somebody online was saying that it would've been cool for Black Widow to pick it up at some point since they seem to set it up with her not trying in the first scene. That could've been cool, I definitely would've freaked out if it had happened.
  14. Got caught up on Agents of SHIELD and marathoned Daredevil.
  15. I'd recommend the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane. There are something like 9 books now, but it's YA so it's a pretty easy read. It has a really cool magic system that takes a pretty simple concept (secret language that you use to cast spells) and adds a lot of interesting stuff on top, especially being set on Earth. As an added bonus, the books get more and more intense with each one, but in a very natural and interesting way. The fifth and sixth books in particular delve into much deeper fare than your generic YA fantasy would (namely, dealing with someone you love getting cancer as well as an autistic character). There's a bit in the eighth book that makes me cry every time I read it. I would probably avoid The Kingkiller Chronicles, as many other posters here have said. It's one of my absolute favorite books, but the second book has a fair amount of sexual content in it. You may be able to get through the first one okay (it's been a while since I've read it so I don't remember exactly), but if you aren't going to read the second one there really isn't much point.
  16. Random question related to Sixth of the Dusk: I thought when I read it there was a reference to many different types of Aviar, more than the two we see. I took a quick skim through again but couldn't find a quote to confirm this. Am I crazy? Or do other people also remember that being in the story?
  17. Somebody asked Brandon and he RAFO'd it. From here. In my opinion, it's definitely possible. As Joe says, there are three races from Yolen and we know all 16 original shardholders are from Yolen as well (further down on the same link). So I don't see why there couldn't be a non-human shardholder.
  18. I see! Well, I do like cookies, so that's a very tempting offer... I knew a little about Hoid thanks to my lurking through the forums, so I was looking out for him in Warbreaker and Elantris (and obviously Way of Kings as well). When I read through Way of Kings I figured the three guys in The Purelake were worldhoppers since they were looking for Hoid. I found some theories on here about their identities and immediately pulled the book back out to verify that, yes, that was indeed Galladon with his verbal tics. Other than those, I don't think I'm aware of any, though I think I had a theory about somebody that I now can't remember.
  19. I'm uhhhhhh... not really sure what that means or how to do that
  20. Hey there, I've been lurking around here for a while, but I decided to make an account so I can start contributing to theories and questions and such. My first Brandon book was Mistborn, recommended to me by a friend and I absolutely loved it. I didn't jump straight into the rest of the Cosmere stuff, but when Words of Radiance came out I couldn't resist any longer (large fictional universes being a passion of mine). I knew I wanted to read the other Cosmere books before jumping into Stormlight Archive, so since picking up Words of Radiance for Christmas last year I've read through every one of the books except The Emperor's Soul. Currently reading through Words of Radiance for the first time, so I'm happy to have reached my initial goal. Plus it's just been a fantastic reading experience. Even knowing Brandon's penchant for twists and use of foreshadowing, I still find myself surprised by the end of each and every book. Hopefully I'll be posting somewhat actively here, especially since I'm now in a position to read new books as they come out (very excited for Shadows of Self, since I loved Alloy of Law). Anyway, hello and it's nice to meet all of you!
