I love Thai and Indian food, so I've always been really curious about the curries they mention. I LOVE curry.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Emerald101 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I have held it in my hands. It was a good feeling. -
I doubt that there is any connection between how Shallan struggles to draw Urithiru and Pattern. Pattern is hard to draw because he's fractaloid (at least that's how I've interpreted the descriptions) and the geometries repeat down into infinitely small detail. This makes him hard to capture precisely. Urithiru is hard to draw because something is just off about it. I interpret this as it messing with Shallan's "mnemonic abilities". This causes it to come out surreal-looking, and she interprets it as a problem with her perspective because she can't conceptualize what's happening realmatically. Basically, Pattern is hard to draw because he's hard to draw. Urithiru comes out surreal in her drawing because there is something surreal about it.

It's funny, because I had to stop lending out my books because I don't want people to read the spoilers I wrote in them. -

When you're copies of WoK and WoR are full of little footnotes for things you've noticed on rereads. -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Emerald101 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
At quantum levels, does investiture exhibit wave-particle duality? "Resonance" is the term we use to describe the interaction between different magic systems/surges/what have you. Would it be correct to describe it as constructive interference? -
A guy can hope, right? I don't expect Argent to just drop the secret on here, but he apparently directed the questioner to the correct place.
-
This WoB has Brandon saying that he dropped some very blatant hints about Renarin, and that he directed @Argent to some specific pages. Would you mind showing us what he was referring to? I'm fairly confident we've considered them, but having the perspective of them as Brandon "dropping a hint" might be helpful.

Kelsier, he's the master of misdirection. Who would be more likely to assassinate the King's Wit, Sadeas or Miles Hundredlives?

Would a parshendi be able to hear the rhythms off-Roshar? -
Ati, because he was nice, back in the day. Who would be better at calculus, Kelsier or Adolin? Totally not in Calc III right now

It's true that they no longer have bodies in the same way that they did before they ascended, but we've seen pretty clearly with Kaladin's brands how the way people view themselves can have very tangible effects in the cosmere. Since the vessels likely view themselves as being that gender, we should treat them as such. Also, WoB says vessels can have children.

The Oathbringer prologue implied pretty heavily that Gavilar's black spheres contained "Parshendi gods" i.e. two of the unmade.

There's also Bavadin, which we all assumed was a male name.

I always saw Honor as much more of a spiritual shard than a cognitive one. Honor is all about bonds, and connections are spiritual.

Harmony did something to the people of scadrial that has made it easier for them to snap. If one of these post-Catacendre scadrians were to travel to Roshar, would the change that Harmony made make it easier for them to bond a spren? -
Keep in mind that it isn't necessarily "mental illness" which leads to stormlight being able to enter a surgebinder. The requirement is "cracks in the soul" i.e. the spiritweb. Clearly emotional trauma is sufficient to create those cracks, but their may be other methods that we aren't aware of, which don't lead to mental illness, or it could easily be possible that cracks can occur via emotional trauma without any subsequent mental illness whatsoever. IMO the correlation between mental illness and spiritual fissures is illusory, simply both caused by the same thing.

Vin, because pewter. Who could hold their breath longer, Adolin or Elhokar?

The discovery of Urithiru, the battle with the Voidbringers, the Everstorm, and the emerging population of Knights Radiant lend Dalinar a great deal of legitimacy following WoR. It may be that the system would be sufficiently upset for a legitimate court of law to convict and hang Sadeas, especially with two highprinces absent and two more backing Dalinar. Even without that though, I have to agree with @KidWayne. One individual never has the authority to kill unless granted that authority by Society. No matter how perfect a system we humans attempt to create, there will be times when the victim feels as if the system has failed them, that there is absolutely no recourse. That doesn't make the acts of Vigilantes acceptable. If we allow that we might as well not bother making a system. edit: Not to imply that Sadeas wasn't scum of the lowliest type to ever walk the face of Roshar. He was. I simply contend that Adolin was wrong to deal with Sadeas in the way that he did.

@phoenix2563 Why do you read the second WoB as indicating that all spren are "alloys"? The wording, "of either Honor or Cultivation, or some mixture between them" to me doesn't exclude the possibility of a 100% honor spren, and in fact implies that for some spren that is the case. And this the more concrete of the two WoBs.

My first impression was absolute elation. I didn't notice anything being off about his writing but that might just be my excitement showing. My first though on the vision was Odium's champion being silhouetted by Odium. I really don't know why Brandon would write a scene like that only to go 'Oh that was just symbolic, Odium's champion doesn't actually look like that', or the person in the armor is secretly just Odium's avatar. This isn't a tricky plot twist building or hidden meaning scene. It's purpose is straightforward: make the reader scared for what's coming. Too much is being read into this. Dalinar being reluctant to be happy about Sadeas's death feels dead on to me. I for one am happy he died, but it feels right for Dalinar's character. Other stuff is mostly a blur, except cool worldbuilding things. I'm going to have to read this again soon. About how other people know about the Everstorm - there are cities east of the shattered plains, on the eastern coast of Roshar. Specifically, Dawn's Shadow and New Natanatan as seen on the map, as well as who knows how many other settlements that aren't large enough to be on the map. Spanreeds are a thing guys. About Honor not being able to have information about the current state of events - that vision in particular was of what Honor feared happening in the future, via shardic future sight and the spiritual realm. I definitely doubt that the familiarity Dalinar sees is referring to a specific person - more likely he recognizes the thrill or something similar, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. About the gold light being similar to that at the end of WoR - I highly doubt there is a connection there. Here's the quote from WoR The light in this vision is described as being "[a] golden light, brilliant yet terrible", and "'It was brilliant and golden, but terrible,' Dalinar whispered. 'It bathed everything in its heat'". The first is never described as golden, and is something enjoyable. The second is overwhelming and terrible. Further, if they were similar I'm sure Dalinar would comment on it.
