Anti-investiture: A Useful Term?
Sirce Luckwielder replied to Windrunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Replying to Windrunner's Cross-Examination I was meaning anything that uses a Shard's power. Generally this is a person, an Allomancer, Surgebinder, etc. but it can also refer to a sentient object, Nightblood, for example, feeds off of Investiture. I was referring to when an Invested gains the ability to use Investiture to access a Shard's power. A Misting Snapping or a Knight Radiant saying the Immortal Words. Here is my quote: Investiture is the things that allow an Invested to access a Shard's power. Things like drawing an Aon, Stormlight, or Metallurgic metals. You said "If you're already Invested there's no need to transcend the borders of the Realms, you have spiritual energy already." I disagree. We have seen that an Allomancer without metals cannot access Preservation's power. An Elantrian can't cause someone to heal without drawing the proper Aon, etc. So an Invested does need these things to access a Shard's power. Just look at the quote that Moogle found: By this, we can see that my analogy works. Invested can use Investiture as a key to unlock a Shard's power. My thoughts with anti-investiture is that it removes the key, making the power unattainable. It doesn't matter how good you can draw Aons if I can dissipate them as the Dahkor seem to do. Change of View Here is the original question that I asked him. When I used the term, I was mostly molding it to a theory that I had, that there were different materials in the Cosmere that are integrated parts of each system but interfere with the system. I was thinking that this was something significant that could tie all of the systems together. I thought that if each one had this anti-investiture, that it would be significant. Maybe it ties the systems together, maybe they all be combined to do something special. I wasn't really sure. We don't have enough on the concept of theorized anti-investiture to even make assumptions as of yet. Now that the discussion is going, I like this theory: I had never thought of aluminum having more investiture than the other metals. I always thought that it was an investiture-canceling material, and called it anti-investiture. However, if it indeed has more investiture than the other metals, it would explain how it cancels them. he "Investiture interferes with other Investiture" idea is actually pretty cool, and I am halfway between my theory and this one. Based on the quote above, I have realigned my thinking of the Dahkor ability to counteract Aons. We do not know much about that ability, so it could be that the Dahkor just have an Aon-like ability that dissipates the effects of other Aons. This could be just them having an ability with more invesiture (it took fifty deaths to gain it) than an Elantrian Aon has. This could just be another case of investiture messing with other invesiture. Notice that all of that all of the examples that I used as "evidence" in my question are physical, ralkalest, aluminum, and the blunting material on Shardblades. If the materials that contain excessive investiture are all physical manifestations, there could be a link. I refer to the same post as before: If things like ralkalest, silver on Threnody, aluminum, and the Shardblade blunting material are all the same thing, just with different names on each planet. If we are going upon the theory that all of these materials have too much investiture and thus interfere with the systems, then these could be a key that fits into a bigger lock that just one Shard's power. I am going to leave that open for right now and see what people say, but I think that this could be something crazy big that we have figured out. Conclusion But wait, what about Duralumin? When I was referencing an "Anti-Adonalsium" I was just referencing your first post, and mistook that you shared my views in there not being an Anti-Adonalsium. I was thinking that you supported it and was trying to reference my essay to yours. Here is my referencing Anti-Adonalsium, you can see that I believed anti-invesiture to be of Adonalsium. Even not believing in it, I don't think that we can discount Adonalsium to be without an enemy. After all, it did shatter, perhaps by an opposing force, perhaps not. We still don't know, so we can't really use it until we know more. -
Does anybody think that we should create a separate thread to plan Astoria so we can easily set up teams, alliances, gangs, and other such things?

Anti-investiture: A Useful Term?
Sirce Luckwielder replied to Windrunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is awesome. I came to the 17th Shard to talk about theories and discussions with everything else second. Thank you Windrunner for this discussion. Your essay was well written and showed your intent with clarity and supported it with evidence. I will attempt to do the same and I share your intent that this is to be a constructive argument rather than a verbose attack on your character. Anti-Investiture As a Term Firstly, I would like to portray anti-investiture as I termed it. Anti-investiture disrupts or stops the flow of an Invested from using investiture to unlock a Shard's power. It is something that is of similar substance, but counteracts and nullifies investiture. Anti-investiture is of the same medium as its investiture counterpart, but cancels it in some way. I see investiture as the manifestation of a Shards power. Investment is the process by which an Invested gain said power. Investiture is a lock and key relationship. Investment is the key and the boundaries between the Realms are the locks. When a being is Invested, they can then transcend the boundaries of the Physical Realm and access a Shard's Power. If the boundaries between Realms are a safe, then a Shard's power is the bullion within and the manifestation of Investiture is the code to unlock that safe. Any other code will not open the safe, only the preordained set of digits. Elantris spoiler It is the same way with impure alloys and metals on Skadrial. The Shard's place their power into specific system and any taints to it result in the power being warped. This is like Agonists. Agonists are molecules that are similar enough to a neurotransmitter, such as dopamine or serotonin, that it can mimic its effects when it goes into the neurotransmitter's receiver. Because they can mimic the effect, they cause a similar response, but it is warped as they are not the pure neurotransmitter. In the same way, an impure alloy can still cause an effect as long as it is not too much different. In this way, Investiture must be in a pure form to obtain the highest utilization of the Shard's power. So, onto the "anti-" in anti-investiture: Looking at the definition of "anti-" from the British Dictionary. Going back to my definition of anti-investiture Each of these definitions of "anti-" work for this. Anti-investiture is the opposite of investiture, it is its rival, it counteracts, inhibits, and neutralizes it. Most importantly, look at the fifth definition. It is the "antiparticle of the particle specified." The British Dictionary definition of "antiparticle." Systems in Regards to Anti-Investiture Anti-investiture is of the same system as normal investiture. Take aluminum as an example. The investiture on Skadrial is the 16 Allomantic metals, not counting the god metals. One of these metals, aluminum, destroys the others when burned, and disrupts them when in physical form, as bullets or lining hats. Antiparticles are of "the same mass and spin as their corresponding particles," they are of the same system. "But have opposite values," the opposite of investiture. "When a particle collides with an antiparticle, mutual annihilation occurs," as you noticed before, when an Allomancer burns aluminum both the aluminum and the other metals in the system are destroyed. Now looking at both pieces of the term anti-investiture, I believe that we can all agree that it fits the purpose intended. It nullifies and is the opposite counterpart of investiture. The item used to blunt Shardblades cannot be a half-blade fabrial, as it was around before half-Shards, them being discovered only a short time before the book takes place. Since Shardblades and the items that blunt them have been around far longer than that, this is no mere fabrial. I think Zahel said that they came with the Shardblades and that he doesn't know who made them or what they are. I have only read Words of Radiance once so I can't remember too clearly if that is the case or not. When referring to Shardblades and the material that blunts it you said that you believe that Shardblades function on Stormlight. (Words of Radiance spoiler) By this, I can confidently say that this blunting material is something else. If a Shardblade is a metal, its anti-investiture would also be a metal, the same system. From what we can see of this blunting material, it is indeed a metal that is pliable enough to form an effective guard. It also nullifies the supernatural power of the Blade. With ralkalest, we see a material that cannot be bound to a Soulstamp and therefore cannot be changed. Forging comes from the symbols and patterns drawn on the material, but it is still just a rock unless it is bound to something. Even the Bloodsealing required a new bonding each day or it failed to work. Since this disrupts the Shard’s power from being used on it and is also a rock, the same material as Soulstone, which is what is used the most in Forgery. Forgery still works when using other materials, but it is not as easy unless carved into Soulstone. Looking above at my talk about impure metals being able to still be used, just less effectively, this can be seen to fit in that mold. I have already used aluminum for Allomancy as my example in proving anti-investiture so I will not readdress it. For Feruchemy however, it stores identity. Since all of the humans on Skadrial have a piece of Preservation inside of them, I am assuming that it stores or nullifies that. If this piece of Preservation within people is what gives the Skadrial humans their identity, than this does make sense again. Now to your thoughts on the black sphere. I have heard that the black sphere is speculated to be the cell or form or a beacon to one of the Unmade. I theorized that it was the anti-investiture to Stormlight. The problem with Roshar is that we don’t know enough about how its magic systems operate. We don’t really know what the Heralds, the Unmade, and any of the high beings of Roshar have in common other than that they are very powerful. We know that the Heralds are linked to Surgebinding and I believe that the speculation is that the Unmade are linked to Voidbinding. The highstorms are what fuel Surgebinding, and the Everstorm clashes and is an opposite to the highstorm. It is of the same medium and may or may not cancel it out. If the Unmade are linked to the black sphere and the Everstorm, and the Everstorm is the opposite of a highstorm, I believe that what is in the black sphere to be the opposite of Stormlight. The thing with all of this is that we just don’t know. We need more books and more Words of Brandon to be able to figure this one out. Your second problem is that that things like Chromium and the Dakhor ability to counteract Aons don’t fit in with the term of anti-investiture. The problem with assessing both of these things is that we do not have a lot to go on. Chromium has never been talked about in anything other than the Ars Arcanum. It has the same Allomantic effect as aluminum, but we don’t know if it has the same effect as aluminum when in physical form, such as in bullets. Until we have more to go on, I don’t think that we can use this as a valid point for either of our cases. The same goes for the Dakhor ability, we know that it does something, we just don’t know how. Refuting Silver as an Anti-Investiture Another thing that you do is tie silver in with anti-investiture. It has no metallurgic power whatsoever, that is true, but it never was said that it stopped investiture. If it could, why wouldn’t people be using silver rather than aluminum in Alloy of Law? Silver has been around since before the end of the first Mistborn trilogy, so it would be much easier to mine and produce it than aluminum. Based on these points, it qualifies neither of the qualifications of anti-investiture. Conclusion You reference something as “Anti-Adonalsium” and say this “is clearly not the case.” I agree in a way, these are integrated into the systems of Investiture, so it is likely to be of Adonalsium. It could also be something that is not Adonalsium, it could be this “Anti-Adonalsium” as you term it. Again, we don’t know. We can speculate, but we don’t have the facts or the data until Brandon allows us to know about them. In recapitulation I again stress that the term anti-investiture is valid and should be used until it has been disproved. With the qualifications set in place, it fits every magic system that we have enough facts to prove or disprove it being used. If there are any other things that can support or nullify my claim, I am happy to hear them. -
Conquest makes him sound like he has large amounts of ambition, which I am not sure that he does. That's not to say that he has no ambition, just that it is limited right now. If he kept all of those powers for himself without Gifting him he could be a crazy powerful dude. Maybe to keep his ambition high and still require the Horsemen I could put a stipulation that he can only use one power himself and can only Gift one power per person. The name is a good idea I will conder it. Thanks for the input.

I am going to keep his power balance in check or have him killed off, never worry. Thanks for the google doc, I will be sure to check it out. This was actually a big concern for me, I spent around thirty minutes trying to think of another name for him but failed miserably. Two things prohibited that mostly. One was that I came up with the idea of the Horsemen first and then built Squire around them since I liked the idea. The other was trying to create five Epics at the same time and acting like Squire himself and just being to lazy to do anything for myself. That's part of the reason that I posted their bios online, hopefully somebody can think of a better name. Maybe Dragoon? The dictionary says "a member of any of several cavalry regiments in the British army" so I suppose that could work rather well.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Sirce Luckwielder replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
No, you're not. Another thing that you will find is that no other book is as enjoyable as a Sanderson novel. Basically you will read ever story and think how much better it would have been if Brandon had written it and then you will go back to eternally reading and rereading cosmere until you die. I know, and I have only been a been reading his works for a few months. -
I can't wait to see it. Honestly with no malice (okay maybe a bit). Defend you position as you would your own child. If you can convince me I will find five of your posts and give you upvotes outside of the ones that will be flying around in the thread.
-
What would you rather it be? When used anti-investiture in my question to Brandon he didn't ask for clarification and seemed to recognize what the term portrayed. Due to that, I think that this term can be used until another WoB changes or nullifies it. Unless we have something else it would be beneficial to have a term that keeps everybody on the same page.

Squire: I was thinking along the lines of, he is already so corrupt that he doesn't need ro use the powers. He probably could use the other powers, but he doesn't have enough mental capacity to use them all at once. He is also too lazy to use anything but his healing power. On the ther hand, he doesn't want any of his other Horsemen to be too powerful, so he only gives them one set of powers each and never the healing ability. I tried to think what a lazy crime boss would be if he was a Gifter. Birthright: I gave him the starrting power so that he could actually kill an Epic, but I am thinking that he is only going to have killed two Epics or less by the time he comes to Astoria. I think I will wait and choose what he gets when I have gotten the feel for the power level of Astoria. I'm thinking that one of his powers is something like Backtrack's, terrible in a fight, but still a power (maybe that Metronome guy). His other power I sill decide later if he gets one, and I'm thinking it won't be a Prime Invincibility. I wouldn't worry about him getting lots of new powers at every turn, since people aren't going to want to sacrifice their Epics to him. Before he kills anything too big I will be sure to check it over with the GM first to know if that is okay.

Anti-Investiture is my own term for those things in each magic system that block it from being used. Things like aluminum in Mistborn. It destroys all metals that an aluminum burner has. In Alloy of Law it can also stop Soothing and Rioting if someone has an aluminum-lined hat and cannot be affected by Iron or Steel.
-
I think I will shelve him for now and come back to him, as I would rather join a new thread than an existing one. And no, he did not just go slaughter some people for food. He traded them some guns and ammunition for the food. Your right that storing emotions doesn't make sense, I will probably take that out for when I actually do add him. I am mainly trying to create a character with Lockpoint who sees himself as not belonging in either the Epic circles or the non Epic circles. I still like his powers, even if I can't make this happen the way I wanted to originally. That is why I asked for advice with him. I have never done an RP and going with a character that is so against what Epics are was probably too ambitious for me at this time.

First of all, I would like to ask if I should wait for Astoria or join the Dalles? With my character's roaming personality I don't think he would be too out of place in the Dalles. I don't know about Summoner's, but it could be cool for them both have their Storages in the same place. This could be cool, I think there would need to be a restriction. My idea for the layout of Storage is a gigantic warehouse that has a massive grid system. The warehouse goes on forever (or maybe not, limited Storage could be cool). Each grid contains his things and they are all timelocked in the same state that they came in. That way food wouldn't spoil, for example. For this Sidestep Epic to get into Storage he would probably need to be allowed in or know my character's weakness. I am down though for any other plotpoint ideas. Unlike Sidestep I don't want him to be able to enter Storage, or place people in Storage, which is why I placed in the no-sentience clause. He can more things around mentally, but that is the extent of how much he can physically effect it. Thank you for the honest feedback, that is why I placed his rough character bio here first. Regarding your question about emotion and strength: he can store mental processes like speed and emotion, but strength and other things like that would not work. Other than using Memory to recall information he has learned, he doesn't really use it for its other aspects. If he did he would probably call it something different, like Mentalmind (be dum chsh). Storing emotion would be a freaky experienced. Imagine knowing someone is soothing you and how uncomfortable that feels, but he does this to himself. In that context, I know I would usually stay away from that. Just the same, he is a nerd and loves to learn and think. This means that he also hates storing mental speed, as it puts him at a disadvantage to other people, which he hates. I am sure that while he is roaming between cities he might store little bits of emotion or acuity, but not much. He would also use it very sparingly as it is valuable to him. During his initial rampage when he became an Epic he Placed a lot of things in Storage. He stole guns, money, clothes, books, random crap from the city museum, and a bunch of random crap. Since he can carry so much material wealth around with him, he cares much more about his emotions and acuity. Just like Shai's Soulstamps are worthless to everybody else but is her most valuable possession. In regards to your your other question. Its not that he cares about the greater good exactly, he just doesn't want to hurt people. At the end of this I will include what I think to be his initial entrance into Oregon. As you can see, he is full of apathy and really only wants to study things and hopefully find friends. Being a nerd, he was bullied and hates to hurt people as he knows how it feels. As such a fundamental character quality of his, I think it can transcend the Epic compulsion to kill. He still acts like an Epic (as seen when he blames Charles for dying rather than the Epic that really killed him). I also think of him a lot like Conflux. Conflux's powers didn't make him evil as they couldn't easily be used to hurt people. The same goes for Dawnslight. Since his powers are not offensive unless used that way, he doesn't have as strong of a compulsion to kill. Here is my idea for my first post with Lockvault:

I was planning on joining The Dalles RP tomorrow or Monday and TwiLyghtSansSparkles suggested that I post a rough overview of my character here so people can give input. Anything is appreciated. I do have an Epic Weakness planned for him, but I am going to keep that to myself for now. Epic Name: Lockvault Real Name: Zeis Raynes Powers: -Dimensional Storage: Can place objects in another dimension and draw them forth later. Cannot place sentient things there. Small things can be placed and withdrawn easily, bigger things take longer. -Danger Sense. He knows approximately ten seconds ahead of time if he is in danger. If he is distracted he will not notice the warnings from his Danger Sense. -Mental Storage: The counterpart to his Dimensional Storage, which places physical objects in another realm, he has another form of storage. This stores internal things, such as memories and emotions. If he ever forgets something, it will go into Mental Storage. He just know that it is there to be able to Draw it out. He can also store emotions and other internal things, but he usually hates this second process and doesn't use it often. Backstory: Got his powers while in his first period Calculus class. He was in the same room as his friend, an Epic who could create illusions and teleport. His friend stood up in the middle of class, said "I'm done with this" and caused an illusion that made it look like he blew himself up. He really just teleported out so he could leave for good (Lockvault does not know that his friend was an Epic, so this could be a story point). His friend's real name was Steve Siskin and his Epic name is Slightspace. "Losing" his only friend made him snap into an Epic and he Placed the entire school into Storage, leaving a bunch of confused people in the middle of a crater. Appearance: Wears a long black cloak that billows when he walks and has lots of pockets (redundant with his powers, but hey, he's an Epic and he thinks it looks cool). He has gray eyes and black hair. Shorter than average and thin but always walks with a straight back so the height isn't always noticed at first Alternate Persona: -He has an alter ego of him as a non-Epic, normal person. Since he can easily Withdraw and Place things from storage he likes to sneak around as another person. When sneaking he goes by the name of Tagon Vohs. He is dressed in a utalitarian jacket, cargo pants, and sturdy boots. Since he can use his Dimensional Storage to hold lots of things he can usually make pretty good disguises. Personality: -Is timid when confronted but is otherwise fine. Is pretty witty and smart. He loves to know everything and is very curious. He was a nerd before he snapped and has some psychological baggage from that time. He likes to go around without people knowing he is an Epic at times. He likes to wow others with what he knows. -Since he has been friendless for most of his life he talks to different objects on his person. One is his wristwatch, Shay, who he always carries in both his Epic and his Sneaking personas. Both he and Slightspace had matching wristwatches, they actually became friends because of it. This is why Shay means so much to him. -He likes to organize and give things titles. Storage is what he calls his Dimensional Space. Placing is what he calls putting things into Storage. Withdrawing or Drawing is what he calls pulling things from Storage. Sneaking is what he calls using his normal persona. He calls his Mental Storage his Memory. -He has a hard time making friends since he wasn't good socially in his past life. Often he will use his Sneaking persona to get to know people better as Epics usually don't make amazing friends. -He doesn't usually stay in one place for longer than he likes it. He doesn't mind leaving to roam for a while but he always comes back to an urban area. As much as he doesn't work well with people, he still hates to be without company. -He hates to cause pain to others and if he offends someone he almost always apologizes immediately. He can still wound and even kill people, but he hates doing it and generally stays away from those situations. If he really believes in fighting for his own well being or the greater good, he will not hold anything back. This is party due to his personality before becoming an Epic, and party because in his initial rampage he didn't really have anyone to kill and only Placed lots of things in Storage and then just left town. Because of this character trait he usually will set people up, spy, run errands or be an informant. EDIT: I think I will have him snap at about age 17, his age will be factored into the time between Calamity first started making Epics, and whenever the Dalles takes place.

The Shard of Confusion. People don't know why they get powers and the powers never make sense. The Shard of Enigma. The more you hide your power, the stronger it is. The Shard of Dyslexia. Phones with autocorrect will be the most heavily Invested. The Shard of Awkwardness. Teenagers going through puberty are the most heavily Invested.

Granted. You never get jokes. But don't worry, to make up for it you laugh at all the wrong time. I wish there was a soundtrack of songs for each Brandon Sanderson book. Just to clarify, I can still listen to them and they sound perfect. -
If we lived in the Cosmere, how would our songs, quotes, movies, etc. be changed? For example: Now Your Just Some Bridgeman That I Used to Know. (Now Your Just Somebody That I Used to Know) Cosmere Wars (Star Wars) Hoid Who (Doctor Who) Settlers of New Skadrial (Settlers of Catan) Studio Shash (Studio C)

SPOILERS AHEAD!!! "Armada" by Two Steps from Hell for the battle betwen Szeth and Kaladin. "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran (Check out the Peter Hollens cover) for basically all of Hero of Ages. "Protectors of the Earth" by Two Steps from Hell for the last scene in Hero of Ages where Elend's army burns through atium in battle against Ruin's forces. "Roundtable Rival" by Lindsey Stirling for Wax and Wayne. "Royals" by Lorde (check out the Pentatonix cover) for Kelsier's crew. "Moving Mountains" by Two Steps from Hell for the Lord Ruler. He seemed to just be some random immortal guy who took over the world and then didn't do anything and then everything he did when he revealed himself was super powerful and deadly. "I'm Reading a Book" by Julian Smith for Elend. "Aha!" by Imogen Heap for the Ghostbloods in Words of Radiance. Watch the cover by Pentatonix on Youtube to see what I mean. "Battle At Hoback" by Two Steps from Hell for when the Lifeless are sent to attack Idris. "1000 Ships of the Underworld" by Two Steps from Hell for the Koloss armies. I can see them covering the land as they march under the gaze of the Inquisitors. "Sky Titans" by Two Steps from Hell for the starting scene of Hero of Ages where Vin and Elend open a can of whopping on the Koloss. "Hypnotica" by Two Steps from Hell for the scene where Sadeus has just betrayed Dalinar and he must battle the Parshendi on his own. Or perhaps the last battle in Words of Radiance. "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" by Two Steps from Hell for the Siege of Luthadel or the last battle in Words of Radiance. "Palladio" by Escala for the time when Shallan and Kaladin were running around in the chasms in Words of Radiance. "Strength of a Thousand Men" by Two Steps from Hell for the scene where Raoden discovered the secret about why AonDor didn't work and Elantris was restored and Dilaf decides to blow everything up. "Requiem for a Tower" by Escala for the end of The Final Empire when Vin finds out what Kelsier's true plan was and the skaa unite. "Enigmatic Soul" by Two Steps from Hell for Siri. "117" by Neil Davidge for Kaladin training his men in the chasms and learning how to use Stormlight. "Invincible" by Two Steps from Hell for TenSoon. "Senbonzakura" by Hatsune Miku (check out the cover by Lindsey Stirling) for Syl. This song seems so fast paced, non-stop, and energetic, just like Syl. "The Final Countdown" by Europe for when Shallan is trying to discover how to open the Oathgate to Urithiru. "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor for Adolin during his first duels and him convincing people to join him. "Awakening" by Neil Davidge for the Battle for Luthadel. "Undefeated" by Def Leppard for Adolin. This song is just dripping with the cocky attitude he portrays. "Baba Yetu" by Christopher Tin (check out the cover by Peter Hollens) for Raoden giving purpose to the Elantrians and building a better life for them. "Blizzard" by Two Steps from Hell for when Vin is rushing bavk to Luthadel in Well of Ascension and she realized that is actually where the Well is. "Infiltrate" by Michael Salvatori and Martin O'Donnell for when Vasher is sneaking into the Pantheon of Gods. "To Galaxy" by Neil Davidge (mostly the second half) for Szeth. This song is powerful, but laced with sorrow. "Skyworld" by Two Steps from Hell for Elend's armies in Hero of Ages. It feels like the world is literally falling into fire and ash but people are still fighting anyway. "City of Hope" by Journey for the city of Elantris. "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons (check out the Pentatonix cover) for the skaa. Just based on the words I can hear the skaa. "Asimov" by Two Steps from Hell for Dilaf. It seems intense, sinister, and just below the point of madness. "Madame Guillotine" from The Scarlet Pimpernel for the Citizen of Urteau. "Sons of War" by Two Steps from Hell for the stormform Parshendi. "El Dorado" by Two Steps from Hell for Kelsier and his plans. "Winterspell" by Two Steps from Hell for Vin. It oscillates between sweet and delicate and intense, just like Vin. "I Am the Walrus" by The Beatles for Wayne since he is so crazy and odd. Sorry, I like songs.

[game] Buy or Sell?
Sirce Luckwielder replied to firstRainbowRose's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Tentative buy. I don't think she will appear unless there is an army of Epics that gathers together. But may be referenced. There is a Hoid sighting in a book that we haven't found. I'm thinking we found one sighting and got it confirmed and then missed that he was actually in that book twice. -
I have been Sprending way too much time thinking about this but it is too Shard to come up with any Witty puns. I've been asking my friends to Hop on over but they Steel haven't been able to help me. I run out of Breath trying to explain what I am doing, but we can't Zinc of anything. Maybe my Heart just doesn't have the Intent right now. I have been aging way too Gold on this, so I probably should leave and Return back to this later. It feels Ironic and Vial that the World is Bringing me to my Snapping point. Well, maybe I should go outside to get some fresh Mare. The cool Breeze will hopefully Awaken and Accentuate my frozen and Metalmind.

Ask Vin help column: Dear Vin, There is a cute Bondsmith that I really like, but I can't seem to get his attention. I really like him and want to get him to notice me. Should I get a Feruchemical duralumin spike to Connect with him better and hope that he makes the first move or just go up to him and ask if he likes me? Sincerely, Shardstruck Dear Shardstruck, Being bold is never a good option. You never want to be more noticeable than you need to be. Spikes are also a bad idea, nobody should have to lose their life so you can get the hero you want. The best method is to notice his interests and favorite spots to be. "Conveniently" sit there and let him come to you. Say hello and start up a conversation. If he tries to get out of it, just keep coming back. Eventually he will grow interested in you. Find a way to save his life and he will be yours for the taking. Another idea is to have him "save" you from peril. Sincerely, Vin

Favorite cosmere character quote!
Sirce Luckwielder replied to Sylfan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
"I ain't grouchy," Teft snapped, "I just have a low threshold for stupidity." Teft is a man after my own heart. "What is a man's life worth?' Dalinar asked softly. "The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams," Kalidan said, frowning. "And what do you say?" "A life is priceless," he said immediately, quoting his father. Dalinar smiled, wrinkle lines extending from the corners of his eyes. "Coincidentally, that is the exact same value of a Shardblade. So today, you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty-six hundred priceless lives. And all I had to repay you with was a single priceless sword. I call that a bargain." This is probably my favorite quote from everything that Brandon has written. This moment was so incredibly awesome and it made me love Dalinar. "'So . . . You can't go anywhere unless someone carries you, right?' The Thug asked. Cett grunted. 'Well then,' Ham said, sounding very pleased. "I've got quite a number of philosophical puzzles you might enjoy. . . .'" This is how I feel when we have extra time in Calculus Lab and I have time to persuade my friends to read Brandon Sanderson. “Elend: I kind of lost track of time… Breeze: For two hours? Elend: There were books involved" I am pretty sure that we all have felt this moment while reading Brandon Sanderson novels. "You can change my clothes and my bearing, but you can't change the soul who I am. I'll do what I think is right -and that includes letting the Assembly depose me, if that is their choice" I had so much respect for Elend here. He made a government, made its laws, and upheld those laws even when it tore him up inside. "To be of use in even a single burst of flame and sound is worth more than a lifetime of achieving nothing." I agree with Marasi here. I would rather accomplish something with my life than "merely exist." "The mark of a great man is one who knows when to set aside the important things in order to accomplish the vital ones" Even though Tillaume is an idiot, he still has some pretty good lines. I would like to add that basically every single Wayne moment is pure gold but I don't have time to be that long-winded.- 66 replies
