  1. I don't think so. We know that Oregon was a huge war zone that attracted a lot of poweful Epics. All of the Prime Invincibilities is a little much though. I don't think we need to worry too much. So long as powerful minions don't all have Prime Invincibilities, just having main characters with them will probably be fine.EDIT: We are also in a state that holds Epics like Nighthound, Timeport, Lucentia, Blackwater, and a whole slew of other Epics who kill a ton. The Epic to vanilla ratio isn't too bad seeing that.
  2. I haven't the foggiest idea so I figured I better start guessing. I think I am closer when I say Lightsong?
  3. Vin or Sazed?
  4. I hadn't heard of that, thanks. I would be extremely interested to see if this worked. If bronze can be used to sense machines that use this, it can be a form of radar or a positioning device.
  5. Thanks. One thing we need to reslize is that there is always another secret. Even with only 50 pages left in a Cosmere novel we can still be suprised by him. This is a quote from Words of Radiance page 1041 after Kaladin proves that he is a Knight Radiant. Kaladin had time to see that Szeth wasn't doing this out of malice. He has a sliver of innocence. Kaladin is also smart enough that he would have wanted to know who Szeth was working for. If Szeth didn't want to kill, then Kaladin can infere that someone else was pulling the strings. In the new climax, he makes sure that Szeth is disarmed, slicing him in the wrist. This is partial penitence for what he has done, but leaves him alive for questioning. He doesn't realize that Szeth wants to die, that he would rather commit suicide than live with what he now knows. I think this perfectly explains the point that I am trying to make.
  6. I think that one thing we need to consider is Szeth's intent. We don't know too much about him, but he is both good and bad. With the Oathstone, he can't do anything to stop what he is commanded. This causes him to weep while he kills, as said on the summary. I think that while Kaladin has been fighting him, he gets some bit of insight that Szeth is doing this misguidedly at least, against his will at the most. He has that moment where he wants to save the innocent, he perhaps realizes that Szeth wanted none of this, that he would rather have killed himself. Letting Szeth kill himself in the end was an act of mercy on Kaladin's part. He knew that Szeth still did the terrible things, he has fisthand experience, so he doesn't go to great lengths to save him. I think the whole death is about both characters, not just Kaladin. Szeth is able to get what he wants, an end and justice for his sins. Kaladin is able to give mercy to the innocent. It makes this all incredibly powerful. The next book will really tell how this works out, until then, we just need to put our faith in Saderson. Just remember what Sazed told Vin about faith. If we don't hold faith in the dark times, then it has no meaning.
  7. I am pretty sure that they will be few and far between though. Even with having Spook be a Lerasium Mistborn there has been no Mistborn after him. All full Feruchemists are gone too. There are only Mistings and Ferings left. Maybe this is on purpose by Harmony and maybe it is just simply because the bloodlines are becoming too weak. I bet that the main characters of each book will be Metalurgists, but it seems that society as a whole won't have many left.
  8. "No one there yet. Be careful of the windows, broken glass is always a giveaway," the Adventurer said. No need for him to worry, I've had my share of experiences with broken glass, Lockvault mused to himself. "What do you think we should do then? I could set up a camera or we could just open one and just stand by it? Would that give too much of a silhouette or do you think we are good?" "Just make sure you're hidden, I'll notice when they appear, I've got a decent minimap that can show enemy positions. I don't suppose you have any ammunition for a rifle like this in your inventory do you? Seems to be running scarce around here." Looking at the model, Lockvault pulled a box full of 50 shells out of Storage, dropping it right in the Adventurer's hands. Then loocking around the room, he started placing tables, chairs, filing cabinets, ans computers in his Storage, clearing up the space. Finally he pulled out a few guns and two combat knives. He had two Immerling 27s strapped to his legs with another two tucked into his belt holsters. The knives he placed in two shoulder holsters with the handles pointing down. Finally, he pulled out a Terringul sniper rifle. Even though he could simply Place bullets into the air, having the guns would serve a dual purpose. Firstly, he could fill the air with even more lead. Secondly, he could keep his power secret until the when he needed it. The element of suprise was always best kept sharp when ambushing a potential enemy. Turning back around, ready to offer the Adventurer a better gun, he noticed the his companion was having a bit of trouble geting his gun reloaded.
  9. That's cool, but it seems to be pretty unlikely. How much Lerasium is there and how much would you need to ascend?
  10. I was figuring that things like Feruchemical bendalloy, iron, steel, and others could help with FTL. My other point was that Feruchemy seems to be too useful and awesome to let it just become obsolete. I refer to the time-honored Sanderson's Zeroeth Law: "ere on the side of awesome."
  11. I actually have given a couple of devotionals and talks where I have used things from the Cosmere as "evidence." The last one I gave I used the passage in my signature -and a summary of the rest of the chapter- about Dalinar and Kaladin. That scene was so awesome that I had to find a way to work it into a talk.
  12. While these machines may only work with Allomancy, I doubt it for a couple of reasons. First, these machines will give the Scadrians access to Faster than Light travel, I don't know where the Word of Brandon is though. I think that to achieve this, people will need Feruchemy. It seems too valuable and too good of a magic system to be discarded. Secondly, you are right, Feruchemy is internal. The machine is what will be storing the attribute, with the flick of a switch or however it happens. The train will be storing its own speed. The food dispenser will be storing the nutrients inside of it, etcetera. I am pretty sure that is how this works, but we can't know until the book actually comes out. I would like to redirect you to the Words of Brandon on this thread's opening post. Based on the things that he has said, we know that the Southern Scadrians have this ability. I may just not be understanding what you're saying. If so, I am sorry.
  13. On a scale from the new Kaladin to Nightblood, how much do you want to destroy evil today. For the record, I actually like the new Kaladin.
  14. Huh. That's pretty sweet. Any ideas on what Lerasium actually does?
  15. I think you meant post 11. Thanks for drawing my attention to that, I missed it the first time that I went through.
  16. My problem with this is that I am not sure if people even knew that their gods were called Ati and Leras, much less Ruin or Preservation. We don't know much about the religions before the Ascension, there may not have been any that discovered that they had the two gods. With this, I find it pretty unlikely that they would have known the actual names for Ruin and Preservation. My main reason to open this thread was mainly to see what people knew about Harmonium. I have only seen the one Word of Brandon, so I thought we should compile anything else that we knew. I like the thought that Harmonium is what makes Southern Scadrian technology work. I hadn't though of that before and it seems like a very Harmony-like and Sazed-like thing to do. If the top northern continent has Allomancy, which is passed through genetics, than Harmony's intent would likely make him find a way to bring the Souther Scadrians up to their level. Where do we know that making a Lerasium burner become a Mistborn is only a side effect?
  17. I know that I am a little late to the party, but here are my thoughts on the blade severing Szeth's bond. We know that investiture disrupts other investiture. Even though Szeth's Blade is an Honorblade, it is not a live spren. I think this means that Kaladin's Blade has more investiture since Syl is alive. Because of these hypothetical regenerating properties of living Shardblades, Kaladin could heal from the wound Szeth gave him. The investiture he had was stronger than Szeth's since he had a living spren. Since Szeth doesn't have a living spren, Kaladin's investiture overwhelmed his, causing his bond to break.
  18. Okay, so with a Word of Bradon, we know that there is a third god metal. So, Harmonium. What is it, what does it do? Obviously we can't know these questions until a book comes out, but I think we can make some guesses and extrapolate from prior knowledge that we have. One thing to note is that the other two god metals contained the name of the Shardholder, not the name of the Shard's Intent. If there is Ati-um and Leras-ium, why is this metal not called Sazed-ium? Is it due to him holding both Shard's, or is there actually multiple god metals that we will see? So, what do the metal(s) do, or more acurately, what ideas do we have for what it could be. I don't think that I am correct, but I could see them having to with Feruchemy. Maybe the god alloy and its alloy can force Feruchemists to store or tap their metalminds. Again, I am pretty sure that this is not correct, but I think it would be cool. What ideas do people have about Harmonium and possible Sazedium?
  19. Another question is if the machine actually uses up the metal when it is in use. Having a Cadmium airline to make long flights feel short would be great, but Cadmium is expensive. If just the machine needs to be made out of the metal and then it is electrically charged or something, that would be nearly as costly as having machines burn the metals themselves. If the machines burn the metals, it will make controlling metal extremely lucrative. It would also make a much larger gap between the poor and the rich. Sounds like the breeding ground for a dystopia.
  20. I knew about the spike, but I figured with how powerful he was with both iron and steel, that he needed to be a savant. Savanthood would also help explain more of the cracks in his sanity.
  21. With the odd nature of Feruchemy, I don't think it would be easy to have savants. After 1000 years of Allomancers while Feruchemy was obscure there were only a few savants. Spook was one, Zane another, Kelsier also mentions that there were some others when he is talking to Vin. If there were a Feruchemist Savant, I think it would likely be from storing, since extended tapping would be much harder to do. Maybe Wax, since he is almost always storing a little bit of weight. Based on the body's nature ability to adapt to situations, I think that this could come from the effects rather than the burning. Yes, using Investiture probably has effects, but people will adapt as well. Think about when you go into a room and there is an annoyingly loud clock that ticks. After a couple minutes, you won't notice it anymore, as you have adapted to the environment and your body and mind realizes that the sound should be ignored. Or, how when you enter a cold pool from being in a warm hot tun, it feels incredibly frigid. But as time goes on, your bosy adapts and you grow accustomed to the cold water. Due to these examples, I don't think we can discount the effects of these machines not changing people who regularly use them.
  22. I am feeling that this is from Warbreaker, but I can't remember all of what happened. I am guessing Treledees or Bluefingers.
  23. The above raises some interesting questions. If someone were to live for fifteen years in a bendalloy prison, and then come back into real time after two years, what would the effects be? We know that savants change after continued burning. Would people using Southern Scadrian technology change too? They would have spent so much of their life in compressed time that they may not be able to function now that their bodies have adjusted to their new time. I'm not saying that this would be bad, we are talking about criminals here, but what about in the space age? Instead of using cryo freezing or something for the long journeys, they may use cadmium while traveling to keep the pilots and passengers alive. These people will probably not be criminals, they will probably be scientists, explorers, cartographers, and soldiers. Do they deserve to undergo these affects?
  24. This could be pretty cool. I don't think there would be enough Lerasium to make even a gauntlet. If it was to be like full Shardplate, I think it would combine a lot of different metals, bendalloy to increase speed, tin as the faceplate, pewter for most of it, iron and steel for the joints. Then, where the spheres would be in normal Shardplate you have some version of condensed mist to power the armor.
  25. You got it.
