came on to say basically the same. I've said it before, but he is a fantastic villain so far. and neal mcdonough plays him with a sort of malicious glee that is just perfect.

exactly. in the deck you describe, I 100% agree that mizzix works better. also, that sounds liek afun deck. I've tried to work storm into some of mine, but the spells are generally just too expensive to warrant it.

that sounds about right. I never had the year numbers down, but eobard wanted to get the accelerator running early. but earth 2 is very different from earth 1. clearly there must have been something different in that world's past even before you account for eobard, otherwise it would just be a copy of earth 1, pretty much, and there are too many differences for that, just based on the glimpses we have seen. so the timeline being different for earth 2 is not really that odd.

it had some creepy vibes going for it, especially the very end where his voice changes, but it just didn't work after the the rest of the episode

When Reading a Book Goes Horribly Wrong
Dunkum replied to hopefulmorning's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I can see what you mean for Game of Thrones. I liked the setting and characters enough that the rest didn't bother me, but it does start pretty slow. As to Harry Potter, I'm afraid I have to agree with your son. The first couple chapters of each of the books (the parts before the magic starts) were all really boring -
I'm a bit surprised at this, actually. there have only been a few characters in Malazan that I didn't like from the start (and a couple of them have grown on me actually), and my main complaint about WoT is that most of the main characters (Mat and Perrin excepted) tend to be very annoying (Rand is alright at the start, but goes downhill quick IMO)

was wondering what was up with the downvote. no worries, on that. my niv-mizzet commander deck is a lot of creature based pinging and a fair amount of card draw, so Mizzix wouldn't work quite as well for me. honestly, I created it from a regular deck I had, which in turn was created specifically to work with Niv-Mizzet (prior to gettign him, I'm not sure I ever had done a direct damage or card draw type deck, but he was too good not to use). the other thing niv-mizzet has going for him is the way he works with cards like curiosity or ophidian eye (and at least one other, btu the name escapes me right now). being able to play him immediately once I have one of those in my hand can be devastating.

I'll second the Malazan suggestion. working my way through it now (about to start book 7 out of 10).

and even that last scene loses a lot of its effectiveness due to how terrible everything preceding it was. they seemed to be going for an effect like they had in the end of Blink, but Blink was actually a really good episode, whereas sleep no more...

Thanksgiving and the superbowl (and christmas, for that matter) are actually very good weeks for them to skip. I can't speak for everyone, but I know my family's thanksgiving tends to go into the evening, then people are driving home afterwards (in our case that could easily take a couple hours for some people. more if traffic is particularly bad). for the superbowl, that is pretty obvious. there is a very very large contingent who will not be watching their regular shows at that time, so it makes sense to skip it. honestly, it doesn't bother me that much when they skip a week here or there for things like that, but the midseason break is annoying.

Kobolds are hated? I've always thought of them as Goblins' younger less effective cousins. theyre a minor annoyance at worst. then again, I may have been biased by Order of the Stick's depiction
-
just got to that one did you? the next one (this past weekend's) is much much much better.

I think the word you are looking for is probably "Suction Cup"

Mizzix is probably better than Niv-Mizzet in a straight spell=based direct damage deck, though I think Niv-Mizzet wins out if you add some card draw. On the Wastes mana...presumably the Wastes card has basic land type "Wastes", though can't be sure until there is more information released on that (especially given that there is nothing in the subtype field). I'm also assuming that it provides colouless mana. In some discussion board, I skimmed through a debate about whether the <> mana symbol was going to just be a new symbol for colorless mana (with the (x) symbols being relegated to 'generic' mana), or whether it was going to be its own unique thing like snow or phyrexian mana. Ultimately, if it is being required as a mana type in a mana cost, I am not sure whether there is actually a distinction.

I liked a lot of those cards, but none of them enough to replace any of my commanders (though Mizzix would fit into my Niv-Mizzet deck) Myriad looks like potentially a very very fun ability, and I imagine that Blade of Selves would be just a generally fun card to play. unrelated to that, have you looked at any of the upcoming set yet? there are only a few cards available, but they so far include new mana type and a new basic land. no description yet (as far as I could see) on how that mana works, though. not sure whether i think it is a good or bad thing yet, though given the annoyances that were snow lands and phyrexian mana, I'm leaning towards bad.

near as I can tell, the metal is a catalyst that more or less forms a conduit to preservation's power

offhand, I am not sure either; I think she is dead, but don't feel like checking. but my point was just that her father was never really a part of her life anyway, so it isn't quite the same as the others.

I think you are actually misunderstanding the Adhesion surge (in fairness this is because I think Brandon was misusing the word Adhesion). we know that windrunners use the adhesion and gravitation surges, but brandon also refers to them using gravitation and pressure: http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kw=windrunner so I think the Adhesion surge is more closely related to pressure than to what you discuss above as adhesion. as to abrasion, I assume it could raise the friction in a surface, I just don't think we have any definite evidence for that, so the coppermind doesn't mention it.

huh, interesting...though I would consider Vin to be a bit of a different case from the rest of those

yea, now its only off by a few years, instead of hundreds. guess that's better. still not sure though.

I don't have the exact count, but there are something like 43 discworld books, not including supplemental stuff like the Science fo Discworld stuff

I'm liking Supergirl so far, though the flying battle in episode 2 was pretty atrocious, special effects wise. the most recent episode decided ot directly confront the shadow of superman that was sort of looming over the show, and mostly succeeded at that, so I'm hoping we get a whole lot less of the references to "my cousin" and "Him" (capital letter definitely included), since they were just about the most awkward dialogue choices i have ever seen,

I'll second this, and add Small Gods and Pyramids as good standalone books in the series as well. that said, there is some small benefit to reading Discworld in publication order. the books are, mostly, in chronological order, so often something is introduced in one book and discussed at length, then casually mentioned in later books assuming you are familiar with it. this isn't a huge problem if you start with the Nightwatch books, since most of these things are pretty well covered in them.
