  1. I've read a few things by Kay, and I honestly think Tigana is the best of them.
  2. I think I would have preferred if they had drawn out the whole collect all the team members thing just a little bit longer during that first episode. it was definitely very awkward, but it was also fun, so I can forgive it some of its flaws
  3. especially since one of those people is Neil Mcdonough, who was basically the best part of Arrow last season. Also potential spoilers/part speculation:
  4. agree with this. it was a shame they couldn't make Hawkgirl (one of the best characters in the Justice League cartoon) or Vandal Savage work. but I am glad they realized it and dropped them. the show is massively improved without them dragging it down. I can understand not liking the writing, last year it was mostly garbage, with a few gems hidden in there. but Melissa Benoist as Supergirl/Kara Danvers is fantastic. she basically carried the show last year, and was consistently good even when given mediocre to bad writing. i havent caught up this season yet, btu everything seems to indicate that, much like legends, it is improving substantially, so it actually currently beats out Flash (with an atrocious back half of their last season) and Arrow (two terrible seasons in a row, Damien Darhk notwithstanding) in terms of what I am lookign forward to.
  5. I haven't gotten back into most of these shows yet, but I have been watching Legends of tomorrow (apparently I have more time thursday evenings) and it is miles better than last season. this is basically 100% due to them ditching Vandal Savage and the Hawkpeople. I'm also glad that all the reviews I have seen so far indicate that supergirl, arrow, and flash are looking better than last season. so I will probably catch up with them eventually.
  6. not enough on it's own, sure, obviously being arelish is not enough to be an elantrian. I know there are theories about what the other conditions are, but to my knowledge we don't have a confirmed answer on that. but my question is basically either a. if someone who satisfies all the other conditions could get over their not having been born in arelon via tappign connection or b. if even with the connection part established, one of the other conditions still could not be satisfied (without some additional magic at least)
  7. couple of 'em: 1. this has probably been asked before, but could Awakening be done with a different investiture substituted for Breath, for example we know the returned can be sustained by stormlight, could an awakener use stormlight to awaken? 1a. what about a combination of investitures. e.g. if awakening something would normally take 10 breaths, could you use 1 breath and some amount of stormlight equivalent to the rest of the breaths? 2. if a duralumin ferruchemist (lets say a compounder, so we don't need to worry about how much power is needed) were on Sel, in Arelon, and tapping connection, could they become an elantrian (i.e. could they be taken by the shaod)? 2a. if so, what would happen if they were to stop tapping their metalminds? 2b. I believe it has been stated that spiritual connection can be stolen with hemalurgy, but could the connection created by tapping a duraluminmind be stolen? and how would it compare to a "natural" connection that had been stolen (e.g. would it decay at the same rate, etc)?
  8. i definitely like the world-building aspects, and i'm especially interested in the magic system and the sorts of things different groups of casters might be able to do when linked, since the examples we have seen so far have mostly been pretty impressive. the different level of humor was sort of the first thing that came to mind, but isn't necessarily a bad thing. he isn't trying to do the same thing as OotS, so it makes sense that the latter would be funnier.
  9. I do. i generally find it less funny than order of the stick, but I like most of what he is doing. still not 100% sure on this current arc just now.
  10. that's one of the few I did read, but it just didn't do that much for me.
  11. read a little bit of axe cop, but it never really appealed to me. Dr. McNinja is great though. pity it is on its way out.
  12. I didn't watch the show, but I remember seeing the trailers, and I will admit that the visuals in those were pretty good, including some of the rusted out pieces of the old world. I still don't remember much of that fromSword though, except maybe the King of the Silver River and his "magic" flashlight
  13. can't speak for most of those, but Sword of Shannara is a pretty blatant Lord of the Rings rehash (though the sequels do get better)
  14. the WoB quoted above seems to suggest that mixing magic types makes it harder too, but I am curious if you could burn a shardblade that was keyed to yourself (presumably a living spren that is bonded with you, I guess?) if that might not have an effect like burning your own metalmind, in some way. so for example if that worked, a windrunner burning their own spren (in shardblade form) might get a burst of allomantic investiture keyed to the force of gravity somehow, i.e. might be able to use the gravity surge allomantically... this is all pure conjecture at this point, of course.
  15. Atium and Lerasium could be exceptions because those shards are associated with scadrial, so their metals are built into the magic systems. not sure I entirely believe that, because we have the case of Trellium from Bands of Mourning being used hemalurgically, but it is a possibility. As far as I know we have no knowledge of whether or not you could burn a shardblade. we do have a WoB which suggests that you could theoretically move them with allomantic steel or iron, if you could put enough power into it, so they are probably metal enough for that purpose.
  16. true. though I will say without a very very deft hand, soothing/rioting all (even if you are good enough to not touch certain related emotions) still is probably more noticeable than then just soothing or rioting the one you want. so that is a downside
  17. well, pluss there are probably downsides to soothing a bunch of emotions at once, and especially for rioting a bunch at once. if you want to dull someone's anger by rioting everything else, you may end up rioting something you didn't really want to, like their desire to take action (there is probably a better term for that, but one isn't coming to me) which could result in side effects
  18. the follow up books after Ender's Game are actually pretty different from Ender's Game itself in a lot of ways. If you can get it from the library, or borrow from a friend, maybe give Speaker for the Dead a chance. if that doesn't do it for you, then I don't know that the rest will. obligatory: https://xkcd.com/304/
  19. friend of mine had sword of light and dark in a deck of his. not sure I was ever able to beat that deck, though the sword was only a small part of why
  20. are we certain that Trellium is not just another godmetal?
  21. I'll second this. the other key point is that the metal itself does not have (as far as we know) any unusual properties, in allomancy it is just the focus, in ferruchemy and hemalurgy it is just a holder.
  22. has anyone looked at the Kaladesh Inventions sort of psuedo set they are releasing with this one? if not: apparently what they've decide is to release a sort of fancy reprint set (I think they referred to the general idea as masterpiece series or something like that, but it is just reprints with new card art and fancy frames. I think they are all foil too, if memory serves) basically 1 in 144 packs will have one of these cards (not sure what they replace), and the whole mini set will be thematically related to the main one. so Kaladesh Inventions is all artifacts, for instance.
  23. wakefulness or warmth might be useful. an inquisitor who doesn't need to sleep or one who can go into the coldest parts of the world without worry might be useful. could also just be because they want the inquisitor to have a source of brass on hand for soothing.
  24. I am liking the look of Kaladesh so far. seems like it should be an interesting set. I also have to revise my opinion on Eldritch moon: I was pretty pessimistic about it going in, but it won me over. I didn't like the original implementation of Eldrazi, back in their first set, but I feel like they worked a lot better this time around (possibly because they had that sort of lovecraftian theme of corrupting things that I don't recall seeing as strongly in their original incarnations)
  25. and if memory serves, kelsier is pretty close to being a savant at iron/steel, and was able to do things like push on one side of an iron bar, but not the other, so its a little bit surprising that we never see him do something like this unless he just was not able to.
