all of which begs the question: just how similar is Lift's food->stormlight process to allomancy's metal->investiture process?
-
It is probably just any food. stormlight tends to leak out of things, so any ingredient that has been stored, like grain or flour, would tend to lose any stormlight it migth have, and most animals are likely kept inside during a highstorm, so would not tend to absorb any stormlight.

well the good news is that the current seasons of supergirl and legends are even better than their first seasons, though supergirl does lose Cat Grant (for the most part).

How do you store fractions of Investiture, with Nicrosil?
Dunkum replied to SkyBolt's question in Cosmere Q&A
coppermind has a citation to Well of Ascension that says bronze is the only metal you can store into while sleeping, nohting on tapping, but presumably if you can't store, you can't tap either. -

Vin's ability to pierce copper clouds came aboit because her earring was a hemalurgic spike of allomantic bronze. when she was wearing the earring ,her natural allomantic bronze power was enhanced beyond its normal level. -

It is an interesting question. We do know that it is possible to be stronger or weaker with allomancy. Elend, for instance was the strongest allomancer in generations after the lerasium, he literally pushed and pulled harder, though there are certain specifics about that situation that I think are a bit unclear; and Vin with her earring had stronger bronze allomancy than average, which is why she could pierce copperclouds. so it makes sense that drawing more quickly from a nicrosilmind could make you stronger for a shorter period of time (subject to the normal rules of ferruchemy) it would basically be like being temporarily spiked with an allomantic ability you already have; or that storing 50% of your steel allomancy for an hour would make steelpushes 50% weaker, to use your example. presumably then, someone tapping that metalmind would then be able to access that same level (50% of the storer's base strength) for an hour, or maybe 100% for 25 minutes (or whatever the correct amount would be. a little less than half an hour). it seems like going from nothing to something should require a little extra, but it isn't really clear that it should. getting from 0 to1 unit of something requires the same as going from 1 to 2 the fact that you start from 0 doesn't necessarily end up mattering -
unsure, but bear in mind that they are already at the fifth heightening, so they already heal much faster than normal anyway
-
To add to what has been said already, when the Atium and/or Lerasium gets burned the power doesn't just vanish, it sort of condenses back in some form. Think the Well of Ascension refilling over 1000 years after the lord ruler had spent its power before. presumably Sazed could pul most or maybe even all of this back into himself, though exactly how long that might take is somewhat unclear

If I'm being honest, Hellfire really is the one the comes to mind immediately. I don't like Hunchback very much, but it has some fantastic music. having said that, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast is pretty great too.
-
agreed, but I figured the distinction was worth pointing out.
-
I mean, unless you count having their body vaporized by the pure power anyway. we know that the body can't necessarily hold that much power, it just sort of doesn't matter as much whether you still have a physical body once you reach that point.

The diminishing returns on tapping a lot of a feruchemical attribute at once.
Dunkum replied to Zantis's question in Cosmere Q&A
most importantly, I doubt any of those numbers are anything more than example figures. they are for illustrative purposes, and almost certainly not the actual numbers that would be used, so it might be that there is essentially a hard limit like you propose, it is probably not 4x. -
1. Could someone with access to both Lightweaving and Awakening awaken one of their own illusions if they knew the right commands? 2. bit of a technical question on the gravitation surge: normally the force of gravity between any 2 objects is the same. I exert a force on the Earth equal to the force it exerts on me (I'm just way smaller so that force affects me more). so when doing a basic lashing, say lashing a rock towards the ground 5 times for example, would that increase the force on just one of the objects or on both of them (just the rock, or both rock and planet)? 3. does the amount of investiture required to do a basic lashing increase as the object's mass increases?

The short version is that Atium and Lerasium aren't normal metals: they are sort of solidified versions of Ruin and Preservation's powers respectively. This is why they get paired together, Atium is basically pure Ruin, Lerasium is basically pure Preservation. Malatium is an alloy of Atium and Gold. it has been suggested that alloys of Atium and any other allomantic metal would also be viable for allomancy, with different effects. likewise alloys of Lerasium and other metals would be burnable (and someone who is already a mistborn and tried to burn Lerasium would also have some kind of effect, though I don't think we know what).

been a bit since my original read through, but I do recall liking book 5 a lot more than the eariler books (though Harry himself annoyed me through the entire thing). part of the point of rereading it was to try to reasses the series from a different standpoint, so we will see how that ends up, but so far it is not wowing me.
-
Been meaning to reread the Harry Potter series for a while now. originally was waiting for all the movies to be out and for some of the hype to die down a bit, but given the Fantastic Beasts movie just came out, I doubt that will happen any time soon, so I gave in and started. so far i'm about 1/3 of the way through book 1 and it is even more mediocre than I remember it being. nothing to revise my opinion that this is probably the most overrated series I have ever read.

SO I am going to take this piece by piece.(good lord splitting that up and redoing all the spoiler tags was a pain. should have just done it all in one chunk) agreed on both counts

not especially surprised. the similarity is there, especially given what we know from era 2 Mistborn.

we know that ferruchemical aluminum can allow someone to make a metalmind that anyone with the right ferruchemical ability can access. could it do something similar with breath? i.e. usually you can only retrieve breaths from something that you yourself have awakened, but if someone was storing identity, and awakened something, would a different person be able to retrieve that breath?

mass is potentially an issue. but I think that leads to this: 1. is there anything particularly special about the aviar (or birds in general) that allows them to host this parasite whereas a human or dog might not be able to? 2: could a sufficiently clever Kandra replicate those bits (if they exist) while retaining some other form (e.g. human form, but with some weirdness in the internal organs to accomodate the parasites)?
-
maybe, but you usually need a fairly strong connection to the invested planet in order to gain its investiture. a Kandra would probably have to do more than just transform into an Aviar and eat the parasites.

what about the person being spiked? like if someone is stabbing me, could it become a spike if I had that intention?

Thats the thing about this season of legends. pretty much everyone in the cast has great chemistry with pretty much everyone else. ray/mick is something they were building last season a bit and it continues working, ray/nate being dorks was fun, ray/stein nerding out over einstein and physics is fun, sara/anyone is always great...I guess Jax doesn't really add anything, but the worst I can say about him is that he is alright. I don't hate him, just dont like him nearly as much as Sara or Mick or anyone else really. I am going to try and catch up on the other shows before the mega-crossover. not sure I have the time for that, but I am going to try.

as has been noted, it is difficult to explain concisely, and in some cases the use/value of a given power is not clear in a vacuum. to take your aluminum example: Spoiler for era 2 mistborn (Alloy of Law and beyond): there are a few other examples I could give, some from the books, some based on questions Brandon has answered or partially answered. the other thing is, there are an awful lot of different abilities, giving a one line description of every one would still take several pages. for any ability that you want more information on, I agree with the above poster and highly recommend the Coppermind which is essentially a Cosmere wiki. it has pretty good, and generally up to date, information on almost everything.

It's an interesting question for sure. I would guess that the following happens: 1. investiture form the forgery alters the person's strength, and sustains it. 2. that investiture is pulled out into the spike, along with the atribute. once it is in the spike, it should basically not matter where it came form, it is just investiture keyed to strength agreed. though I would want confirmation from Brandon that cloning would copy S-DNA intact. that is definitely unclear. but assuming it can, the clone would still have to snap before they could use allomancy
