  1. It's an interesting idea. Now, would something similar also be considered PTSD? Example: a college graduate has a dream of being late to an important final.
  2. I am even more evil in real life! Mwahaha!
  3. I wish I was as fabulous as Quick E Cat!
  4. It also created a magical caste system, in which knowledge, spirit or privilege is not valued in and of itself but only if it serves The One True House.
  5. I was just thinking... Hermione should have been sorted into Ravenclaw.
  6. Twist: Twi smacks her lips but doesn't realize it. She has become the thing she hates... The Smacking Thing!
  7. To be certain, contempt can very easily lead to be scornful of people. So I'll watch for hate and scorn of people from you
  8. Not at all, you were nurturing hatred. Contempt requires no nurturing, for it cares not. (Sorry for the poor wording on this sentence, I am getting mind numbed at work) One could say another word for contempt is enlightenment (particularly in the Buddhist sense). In my conception of contempt, if it's done right, there's no hate or degradation. You don't think yourself better or hate because it has no bearing on you.
  9. Contempt is a wonderful thing. It allows the disapproval of anger with the detachment of the realization that they are worth less than spit. And the fun thing is, if you do contempt right, they will never know! Mwahaha!
  10. Don't worry! There's still time to sabotage their looks
  11. That's the nature of escapism. The desire to fulfill fantasies at little to no cost (like making your tormentors pay) takes precedent over useful life insights. Escapism is fine, I indulge in it quite frequently. But placing it on a high literary pedestal with little to no critical evaluation will lead to a warped view of life and how it should work. And that's my pet peeve. Harry Potter or almost any popular YA series does not have the answers to life, the universe and everything.
  12. They usually don't show it so openly.
  13. My cat is contemptuous of my reading choices!
  14. @Kestrel What is true now need not be true always. It's a process, but you can change how others and you see yourself. Also, a Donaldson author once said "A weakness is a strength misapplied." This was in reference to him learning martial arts at an older age and kicking the butts of younger students due to him recognizing his limitations. This moment of dissatisfaction is an opportunity to evaluate where you are at, where you want to go and how you will set off on that journey.
  15. The Age of the Ponies has passed... The Age of the Toby Determineds has dawned!
  16. "Discussion...of literary works"? *guffaw* What a waggish deception you weave! *sips from tea cup*
  17. It's a lie, don't do it! It's how the body snatchers get you nowadays!
  18. I had a similar experience, though it's debatable if Schopenhauer is Buddhist literature or not... I'm keeping my Wheel of Time for now, though
  19. I'll have to think about this, but keep this in mind: some people are just a-holes. I suspect this is the case here, since he treats you differently. I suspect he's decided he is competing with you. Advice for now: remain professional and firm. If he questions a decision respond simply and firmly (yes or no). If he wants a why, make sure the other co-workers hear how smart you are and how much of a tedious pain he is. He wants an audience? Fine. You just have to play the part of the competent professional. Which you all ready are, you just have to make sure there are witnesses
  20. Try to feel out the situation and if you think it would be ok, don't assume: ask. Being coy and sly is so overrated.
  21. Completely agree. The humor in that story was almost exactly what I needed at the time I read it.
  22. Sleep its for the weak and logical. I'm going to pick up a game expansion at midnight and drool over it for a bit.
  23. I actually knew some mainstream Baptists who believed this growing up. It isn't fringe!
  24. Sounds to me like your dad shouldn't be messing with the plumbing. *sips tea*
