Ardents and Austuriums monks
Lord Pifferdoo replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Very interesting. It's possible the two groups influenced each other in writing. Warbreaker is, in more than a few ways, a prequel to The Stormlight Archive. Plus, I'm pretty sure that Brandon was working on Way of Kings Prime around the same time he worked on Warbreaker. -

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Lord Pifferdoo replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Quick RP details that I won't be able to get into writing because SLEEP: Baron Von Piffertiff has become even more closed-off to the outside world. However, he did remove his banners from outside and is trying his best to keep the servants under control, though several have run off. He has been having a harder and harder time focusing on his book, and it has gone through many revisions. Stu the Steward is growing worrisome, as he hasn't requested tea in nearly three days, drinking only brandy and eating only bread and the last of the cheese. -
Weren't the mist spirits cognitive shadows? I think this link to the forum page does a good job of explaining what they are. The alternate scene in WoA where the mist spirits are explained via WoB to be Cognitive Shadows of the First Generation of kandra is non-canonical, however, but I think that the idea of the mist spirit being a shadow still fits. If so, I think the mist spirit is more like the Stormfather, like the power of Preservation itself has gain sentience of a sorts. But the Stormfather is a splinter, so that doesn't necessarily work as an analogy. However, the spirit could have another cause. Before Leras died, he was still the holder of preservation, and he could have been the mist spirit (or controlling it) during his lifetime. This fits for the mist spirit doing a lot of things. After that, we know that Kelsier is still faffing about, and that he is most likely a cognitive shadow (WoB sourced in the link). Kelsier could've picked up the shard for a bit and become the mist spirit for that short time that he held the shard. I'm unsure on how this worked with the whole "Preservation sacrificing his mind so that Ruin would be bound for a time" thing, but maybe "shimmery misty spirit" is what was left over after the mind sacrifice.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Lord Pifferdoo replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There's a WoB where he talks about how when Ruin and Preservation showed up on Scadrial, the Metallic Arts reacted to their presence in a way and formed into the ways we know now. The magics aren't caused by the Shards directly, they're more of a side effect. If Odium had showed up on Scadrial and set up shop there, he'd have a physical manifestation, probably Odiuite or Odite. (Odium already sounds like a metal, ha!) http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kw=focuses --> here, there's a couple, but the main one that fits my point is 25. -
Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss

I am going to vote for Ash. I might explain later but right now I have to go to play practice. Just know that everyone who throws up these analyses gets bonus points, and when they are all put side by side in a lot of tabs, some patterns start to emerge. -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon

If Elendel was named after Elend, who is the namesake for Luthadel? Who is Lutha? -
Note: Per WoB, the LR's bracers, which pierced his skin, acted like spikes. Now, I am unsure if this means that any metal piercing someone's skin turns into a spike or what. I'm guessing that hemalurgy isn't restricted to 'spike-shaped' things.

Lord Pifferdoo replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry for not posting yesterday, I've been really tired, plus college scholarships are a lot of work to apply for. I'm going to vote to lynch Wyrm because of my own suspicions, along with the mega-posts, emphasizing Seonid's analyses . Has anyone got PMs from Seekers? EDIT: Lynching Colours -
Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Lord Pifferdoo replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Baron Von Piffertiff stood in shock. "Lord Ruler, that escalated quickly." he muttered to himself. The situation in town was getting more stressful every day, and fights like these were becoming more and more frequent. The Baron noticed someone in town square looking towards the window the Baron was standing behind. He then realized that he may or may not look slightly creepy just standing there, doing nothing. He raised one hand in a wave. When the villager didn't stop looking, the Baron raised his other hand, in what hopefully looked like a "don't mind me, just looking at people" kind of gesture. In reality, the villager thought the Baron had just given him malicious jazz hands. --- Hello, I'll try to post a bit more, after reading Ren's post. I'll add more game stuff and less RP stuff. I think our number 1 priority should be figuring out who was Soothed/Rioted and who we think did the allomancy. Here's the final voting before the night ended: (3) Eoladdin- Peng, Aralis, Wyra (3) Wyra- Wilson, Ashette, Maill (2) Lord Ostrich- Eoladdin, Herwnybe (2) Peng- Jain, Lord Ostrich (1) Ament- Melend (1) Larry- Senn (1) Maill- Rent (1) Jain- Clancy (10)No Votes- Joe, Dom, Cleo, Newan, Herwynbe, Ament, Damon, Odustren, Riew, Larry And here's the vote count once Night 3 started: (3) Wyra- Wilson, Ashette, Maill (2) Eoladdin- Peng, Wyra (2) Peng- Jain, Lord Ostrich (2) Lord Ostrich- Eoladdin, Herwynbe (1) Ament- Melend (1) Larry- Senn (1) Maill- Rent (1) Jain- Clancy (11) No Votes- Joe, Dom, Cleo, Newan, Ament, Damon, Odustren, Riew, Larry, Reeco, Aralis, Baron Von Piffertiff [lovingly copy-pasted, btw] Aralis's vote was removed from Eol and into the no-vote pile. Since no other votes were changed, then we can assume that he was Soothed rather than him Rioting someone. (When people Riot, their vote goes to the No Vote pile, correct?) Either someone wanted Wyrm dead or someone wanted Eol alive. Based on that, we should be suspicious of Wilson, because he not only voted for Wyrm, but also has been very active in protecting Eol. Any other suspects would be appreciated. It is also interesting to note that Aralis states that he is in contact with someone who claims to have Soothed Wilson. Assuming this is true, then I theorized a few possibilities: Either Aralis Rioted Wilson after Person X Soothed him (seems too complicated, plus nothing would really be gained from that) Somebody was expecting something like this and Rioted Wilson into his original spot (but I don't know if that's a thing to do) Wilson is a Smoker (which may or may not make him a target, as Seekers can't determine their alignment) Again, this is based on Aralis both telling the truth and Person X getting their Soothing orders in. Aralis, has Person X said anything about this? Big post, compensating for all the others. If I missed anything, feel free to edit, snip, snap, berate, dismiss, or downright sneer at. With words, although picture messages aren't frowned upon. Oh, and if anyone wants to join the Baron for tea, his doors are open to people who ask. Well, ask and the Baron says 'yes' to. You can't be too inviting these days. -

Proposed Physics Model for Steelpushing: Elastic Collisions
Lord Pifferdoo replied to digitalbusker's topic in Mistborn
I always saw Pushing and Pulling as more of an inelastic collision. When Vin Pushes on a coin, it isn't like throwing the coin, and having no contact with it after it leaves her hand. She continues to push on it, and when the coin hits something, say a wall, the coin and the wall stay 'stuck' together while Vin goes flying. I'm kinda picturing Vin and the coin as one object, rather than two, up until the actual collision. If the coin hits something that will move, it is propelled by the coin, not just the momentum of the coin. I'm in the middle of class and therefore have nothing to back me up right now, but I just wanted to throw the idea out there. NOTE: this was written by Lord Pifferdoo's girlfriend, Lady Pifferdoo, who will have a profile eventually. -

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Lord Pifferdoo replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry for posting so late - just finished applying for a pretty big scholarship that may-or-may-not determine where I go to college. Anyways! I'm retracting my vote for Eol because I did a lot of sifting and logic-working and I pretty sure he's innocent now, however I'm still suspicious. I'm suspicious of everyone except myself and the dead people. -
I saw something somewhere that said Miles "Hundred-lives" Dagouter put gold filaments in his arms.

Guess I should read the origin post a bit more carefully then, huh. I agree with Pestis here that being a Windrunner of the third ideal doesn't make this that fair of a fight. It also misses the point of the poll. This is supposed to be about the relative power of both of the weapons, no? So really, we should assume that the shardbearer is a non-radiant shardbearer, with proper training and whatnot. The lightsaber wielder would have the same amount of training (proportional, of course) but no force capabilities. Or, at the very least, enough force to counteract any mystical effects the Shardblade gives to it's bearer. (you don't need the force to use a lightsaber, right? Just your average joe schmoe lightsaber?)

I'm saying lightsaber because of how much more nimble lightsaber duelists tend to be. Also, shardblades are ginormous and unwieldy when the opponent gets in close. This stacks the odds more towards the lightsaber wielder because a lightsaber is still quiet the deadly weapon at close range. Now, I'm not saying a shardblade isn't a deadly weapon at close range, but it's gonna be hard to maneuver.

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Lord Pifferdoo replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
For various reasons, mostly ones involving reading other people's arguments and thinking You know, that makes sense. I'm going to (hesitantly) vote for Eol. However, if you can give me a really good reason not to, I may be convinced otherwise. -

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Lord Pifferdoo replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Baron Von Piffertiff stood in the center of the street, observing a pair of guards lift away another body. Teys was giving him a general report on what he had found out, but the Baron wasn't listening anymore. One murder could be a strike of passion. However, with the koloss approaching and the saboteurs infiltrating the town, nothing was an accident anymore. Why, this morning the Baron had come across a baker claiming that the saboteurs had stolen all of his grain. Preposterous, although the Baron did instruct Teys to look out for any wheat and wheat by-products at the scene of any future murders. "Now, Baron, what's really interesting is this here multi-coloured response. These dyes are expensive, especially blue, and as a result I believe we can track down the killer! You see, blue dye can only come from-" "Captain Teys, the message-writer may not be the killer, and even if he or she was, they could have easily stolen that dye. Don't jump to conclusions. If you do, good people get hung for no good reason. And I don't want that happening again. Understand?" Captain Teys's had never seen the Baron act this way, and spluttered a "Yes, Baron." Most people only knew the Baron as a quiet man who hardly ever left his estate, and wrote books for a living. Some knew him as an aloof aristocrat, going through stewards and servants quicker than the ash could fall. Nobody knew him like this, serious and with such a look in his eye. That look that made men part crowds on their way to do something heroic. Or it could be the look of someone that is completely done. Baron Von Piffertiff did something that day that no-one in town had ever seen him do. He went to a tavern and ordered something so alcoholic that if you are under 21 and you simply read the name of it, you'll be arrested faster than you can scream "It's just reading? How is this possible? What is this, Fahrenheit 451?" Needless to say, the villagers were quite shocked. -
