Who is the *BEST* swordsman in the cosmere?
natc replied to hula's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Speaking of Szeth and lashings, wonder how many lashings it would take to turn someone into a blood splatter on the ceiling . . . -
The kandra blessings are perfectly functional and grant abnormal levels of their traits. They just happen to all be unspectacular human traits like strength and mental stability.

It sometimes happens to people with Aonic blood. That's it.

Pretty much everyone calls it a whale because fish just aren't very big.

Well, it's impossible to have everything be relstive, because then you have a mass of inter-referencing variables in the universe and no actual numbers.

the most useless uses for useful powers

Awaken the Internet to Destroy Illegal Activity. Internet eliminates 90% of itself, then tries to hack the Pentagon and kill us all for pirating music. -
Don't have a sister On the bright side, makes it less awkward to watch My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute. Which doesn't count for much, because it's still very awkward. Wish I could get some other relative to read it though.

The subject of Hoid has always been of particular note in Sanderson novels. It's hard to not notice him, even when he doesn't have as direct a role. I mean, Tanavast wouldn't buy drinks for a lowly Willshaper, surely. Our good ol' Liar of Partinel deserves more credit than that.

There's . . . not much to actually grasp about it though. Maybe it makes more sense for chronic procrastinators

Well there's always Straff to take the title of "antagonist without a single justifiable reason to excuse his load of chull dung." He didn't do much, but he sure as heck was getting in the way of people who actually were, and it's really all just the selfishness talking. TLR was at least trying to buy the world another thousand years.

Hey now, Ati was a pretty nice guy. Practically a victim in all this. The world's got to end at some point. In fact it was supposed to end immediately after they made humans, the casualties would be a lot lower if Preservation didn't outright backstab him to drag this out as long as possible.

And then it was Mraize or something all along.

Allomancy, E=mc^2, and the Law of Conservation of Energy.

There's the part where atium allomancy apparently uses the atium for power directly, as well. Normal metal doesn't do that. -
Your first & favourite Sanderson novel
natc replied to Young Bard's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Steelheart first too. Wasn't deliberate, it was random bookstore browsing. My favorite always fluctuates but Steelheart always ranks high. -
You raise a good point on voidspren. HoA spoilers Interesting train of thought.

Someone was farting in that TARDIS. -
It's also possible that it is just an intentionally programmed defect in those specific hemalurgic creations, and other future types might not be susceptible to direct mind control, though are still especially vulnerable to emotional allomancy. After all kandra appear to be immune to emotional disruption (fault of not entirely human souls, perhaps?) but the mind control works anyway.

Just the increased amount of power would probably make the decay more obvious, to be honest. And as ssid above, stamps fail from a distance. The nations for ChayShan and Dakhor abilities are much closer to Arelon than MaiPon and the Rose Empire. We also don't know how strong they are supposed to be.

Why do people keep bringing up chasms as proof of Odium? Odium was long gone from Sel before the chasm there ever formed. The historical presence of seons suggests as much. By all likelihood it could just be a random earthquake. The way Aons work I could practically artificially produce a large lake or forest and the Aons will probably end up shifting. Continental drift will change the Aons over time. It's not magic levels of difficult. It's actually kind of impressive that it didn't happen sooner.

Allomancy, E=mc^2, and the Law of Conservation of Energy.

Well, without a closed system there's not much to be said for the First Law. It will have to be adapted to account for investiture as the apparent stuff of existence. Investiture has it's own laws of dynamics, apparently. I would guess that in the cosmere, everything can be in some way derived from investiture, and the laws of thermodynamics will then be the standard behavior of "investiture" when in the form of energy and nothing else. When some other manifestation such as stormlight or mist acts on the system, the Laws of Thermodynamics may appear to be broken, but like how it is possible to pretty much ignore the original "conservation of mass" law by conversion to energy (and back, hypothetically) factoring investiture can probably explain much of the rampant physics-breaking here. Perhaps in the loss of observable entropy the entropy of investiture has increased, or something similar? Shards are somewhat of an oddity then, but to be fair we have this big ball of glowing gas gathered together in the sky shining on us all the time. And then realmatics will melt our brains. -
We still don't know how fast it would be really. Can't really say. How's about we put Fleeting distractions behind us and get back to punning?
-
Well, see, it makes sense. When you're trying to transplant a soul you can't just put it back where you got it, since there's something there already. It could be possible that bind points correlate to certain parts of the spiritweb where the spiritual "genes" can be functionally grafted to without breaking everything down. I mean, mutations still hapoen, but at least you don't die.

Why do I get the feeling that Tarrlok makes a better Rashek? Looks wise. It's water tribe tan, but not as dark as the southern type without being straight up pale either. He's got the expressions down too. Just give him Ozai's superiority complex and arrogance and everything is covered. Then we can cast the Earth King as Susebron or something. It'll be hilariously appropriate.
