Who is your favourite character in SA?
natc replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Stormlight Archive
We don't even know if he is a skybreaker right now. And for a guy getting dominated he sure lasted a while before literally throwing the fight on purpose. -
Any theories as to how Nightblood... [spoilers]?
natc replied to Bondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Shouldn't be hard to learn the stances. He's been here long enough to be an ardent. Being immortal has its perks, and we've never actually seen him fight someone who wasn't notably amazing with a sword or similarly immortal. "Swordmaster" might not even refer to his skill level, but the the fact that he teaches it. A master-apprentice type deal perhaps? -
I was talking to Rybal. Quote button doing funky things on my tablet.

Spikes don't care who you are . . . and metalminds care too much about who you are.

Duel to the Death: Vin and Shallan vs. Kaladin and Wayne

Everyone misreads the question. Yay. -

Presumably Vasher threw it at someone and they didn't kill themselves? He lets people steal it regularly, I doubt he watches it. I mean, Vasher is here too. You just need to take it from him, no Hoid needed. -
It's still a better love story than Twilight tho*shot* Everybody loves Sus and Siri. She's not about to go explain how sex works to him though . . .

You can melt down, forge, and alloy god metal to things. It clearly has metallic physical properties, especially when metallic arts are designed around atomic structure.

. . . um, yes, Spren are shard splinters. AFAIK they are a natural phenomenon on Roshar. Odium had no choice when he was forced to settle on Braize. You can't kill a spren completely though, so that's pointless. It's about as helpful as smashing atium beads or, well, killing people from Scadrial, because they're also made from Shard investiture. Probably other humans too. That does no permanent damage at all.

Vasher can tell something is up too. You really just need to have worked with investiture long enough and maybe have a bit of Lifesense. He shows up to important places before anything happens there on a regular basis, so finding Jasnah wouldn't be hard.

I think you're still glossing over the fact that the Kholin princedom is not the only group in the world whose lives matter.

We're trying to figure out the physical composition of the plate here. It doesn't matter if it was forged out of stormlight, if it physically exists and has mass it must have some sort of atomic/molecular structure. Even God Metal cannot defy that fact. What that starfish is trying to bring up is a physical model that can be used to describe the physical behavior of shardplate. It's not going to be accurate when forged from magic as it stands, but physical models are rarely accurate in real life anyway.

"You think he'll live?" "He just fell out the third-story window, plummeting toward certain doom. Of course he'll live!" Genre savviness right there.

Who says it isn't mist? It's glowing no matter what it's in, gems just don't leak very fast, unlike humans. Perhaps an infused voidbringer wouldn't even glow. They aren't exactly transparent. The stormlight definitely shifts around and churns like a storm while inside[/] gemstones, Kaladin acknowledges this. People only call it steady lighting because candles are storming terrible at being steady.

Well, Honor being dead is literally in the book, and the explosion of spren population is also noted in the books. Syl being a piece of god is yet again in there too. Though it does take a bit of logic to piece together you don't even need to look up Honor for this, just Shards in general. I agree with you about the negativity, but this particular fact is pretty much one of the more obvious ones regarding the nature of (Rosharan) shardblades.

It's not how much you need to become one, but how powerful you would be if you do. The whole bead is best for maximum effect, at least assuming you don't just burn more than one. Though with all the powers he presumably has he might be pretty powerful at the baseline and just needs to make a connection to Preservation. Being snapped beforehand is not farfetched when it's Hoid. Though the connection could potentially be hacked . . . Huh. Who knows if he actually needs to burn it.

There shouldn't be an upper cap to how far you can go as a ferring. Unless it kills you of course. The ferring limitation has always been supply of power, unlike mistings who have that in spades assuming deep enough pockets and have to instead worry about actual strength. Feruchemy is compressible. So enough mental speed would, indeed, put you into Bullet Time, which makes predicting trajectories easy. Screw atium. But the mystery really does come from the ricochet at the border for bullets, that's just weird. As if the bubbles themselves aren't weird enough with their handwavium properties.

Look, if they want to slaughter millions then there's not much we can do about that. But can we at least say that curing the mind rape so that their personalities are actually their own instead of distorted murderous megalomaniac versions of their old selves is helpful regardless? If they still want to kill us all later then fine, but as it stands it's closer to Calamity calling the shots than the Epics themselves.

Cosmere names corresponding to Aon alphabet/list
natc replied to michaelmj11's topic in Cosmere Discussion
They're not pronounced the same way, and Yolish definitely predates Aonic by a very long period of time. -
No, he isn't. I'm not sure how you got that out of it.
-
A lot of Stormlight characters mention the Cosmere by name, that tells us little. It's more implied that his race originates from another world than him specifically. It couldn't have been recent though, or someone would've mentioned it.

Well, he's been chugging powder in the Shallan flashback and her brother was almost Soothed in the next scene. Who knows what he could do without eating the bead. The changes to her SDNA should be minimal, since her eyes are seemingly already too light to change, and the only other difference is the huge crack that doesn't signify anything by itself.

Spikes only need a spiritweb chunk in them and whatever small amount of investiture is needed to keep that thing attached.
-
Thanks for restating my point.

I can read it fine.
