  1. Smoker... I really thought I would come out as a Soother or Rioter.
  2. Mistborn - The Original Trilogy. What's yours?
  3. I agree. That's a lot better than mine. Sorry if I confused anyone. And... I must have got completely off on the wrong foot. I knew they weren't "native" like everyone else, but I'd presumed that had meant "from across the ocean" not-native instead of "created by super evil god of destruction" not-native. Oops. So, are we leaving what caused humans to arrive ambiguous, or are we explaining it?
  4. Mixture of the 2. Both Kobold and I mentioned some sort of disaster for the lore, and it was decided that humans came from over the sea. Besides that, I think it's relatively new.
  5. Please Note: This is idle speculation on my part, and by no means canon. Theory for the Diaemus Original Continent Timeline (I'll work out the second continent later): 1: In the beginning...: Dinosaurs reign supreme. Humans haven't yet crossed the ocean, and they are the only major sapient species. (Except maybe the spiders, I don't know.) 2: Armageddon: I'm leaning towards the idea of a war for this, but it doesn't have to be. I'm thinking that the humans cross the ocean, try to claim the land for themselves, and move in (it wouldn't be the first time). The dinosaurs, understandably, aren't very happy about this. They have a war, and eventually a hazy stalemate is reached. The dinosaurs still live, and do so in the regions that humans... don't really want, e.g. tundra. (For reference, this is the time when they start using lumuoles, initially weaponizing their new-found powers.) Also, my species, which I still haven't really developed, got caught in the crossfire, and moved underground in this period. 3: Plague: A plague of some sort spreads through the humans, leaving them too as a shadow of what they were before. This allows a new Cambrian Explosion to occur, meaning that a number of species can now flourish without the oppression of the humans (just for reference, they're not gone altogether, just drastically reduced in numbers. 3. Now: Dinosaurs are found in a few remote areas, such as the tundra, all over the continent. Humans themselves have developed a few mutations from their exposure to lumuoles (Mailliw's, for example, have developed the ability to survive better in water), and live in small clusters/hubs/villages/cities (e.g. Torbud Empire???). So small clusters of humans around the place, small clusters of dinosaurs around the place, as people want them. If this goes against anything anyone else has done, let me now, and I'll edit it.
  6. I think the omnibus edition of just the Stormlight Archives, let alone all of the Cosmere, would look something like this...
  7. OK. Long story short, Rubix doesn't think a new subforum is 'necessary at this time'. I presume he means that a subforum with a single page on it would be completely silly, which is fair enough. What that means is that we should probably create pages as we need them now, and the subforum will probably go up if the admins deem it nescessary. In keeping with that, I've started a new post with my latest maps, in addition to Sir Jerric's latest maps, here. If you would like to add a second spot, or change your current one, this is the place to do it. Kobold, do you want to link to that post (and possibly all the other new threads until the subforum is up) from your OP? EDIT: Kobold, do you want to start a species page? I'd do it, but yoou seem to have created about 3/4 of them so far, so I think you should do it. Maybe McKeedee should start a 'Magic' page as well, just for the fine-tuning?
  8. For the main Diaemus Project thread, see here. Greetings, residents of Diaemus. This is where you can come to select your lands to rule over (and later, where you'll tell me what empires, cities and land features you have in your allotted space). This is the map of Diaemus, as created by Sir Jerric, and up to date as of 1 October 2015. (Coming Soon!) Now, because I have no sense of beauty whatsoever, I decided to scrawl right over the top of what Sir Jerric has done, crudely carving out the sections that people wanted for them. This is the most up to date version of mine. So, if you would like to claim a piece, this is the place to ask.
  9. Rules of the forums: 1. You don't talk about the rules... 2. REDACTED 3. REDACTED 4. REDACTED Is that all clear?
  10. Just saying, they actually locked down the last thread, saying it was 'pointless' (though still a lot more useful than other stuff around here - *cough* Sanderson Elimination *cough*)
  11. I must admit, I skipped over the second page due to time constraints, so pardon me if this point has been brought up before. Technically, Sazed has been holding Harmony for 341 years now. So by now, it's really starting to influence his decisions. I'm beginning to wonder now whether his Shard is beginning to act more like "Harmony", a.k.a. whenever he does something aligned with Preservation's way of thinking, he's then forced to do something similar for Ruin's way of thinking. This would explain why he tries not to intervene very much, as it would cause Sazed to act in a manner which he disagrees with. (I'm trying to work out whether it's worth putting up a theory page for it, seeing as it will either be confirmed or debunked in 6 days anyway.
  12. I tried transferring the layers over and resizing, but I was expanding it so much that it was barely legible. (I could always shrink Sir Jerric's map, but I decided not to, for various reasons) So, I've decided to quickly redraw the 13 people who've done it so far. I'll probably have it to you guys tomorrow evening (maybe tonight, I'm not sure.) EDIT: Having said that, I've finished everything except the arctic regions (Kobold, TwiLyght, and Mailliw, I can't give you your old spots unless you want to start working on a submerged continent.) For the rest of you, could you check your places on the map to confirm the places you have? There have been minor reshuffles, but nothing major. P.S. Wait... submerged continent? That sounds amazing, now that I think about it.
  13. Join the Diaemus Project. (It's a cookie-free zone!)

  14. @Mailliw: Are you happy with this?
  15. @Venture: You're about as far away from each other that you could possibly be. The possible contendents for Mailliw's trading could be Morzathoth, Honey Badger, gwslow, Crooked Warden, or Edgedancer.
  16. Pending space, yes. There's still plenty of space on the map now, but there are a lot of author-y people in these forums, and if they join, then we might have a few problems. For now though, it should be fine. (In fact, looking at the rate of people who have joined up, it will probably continue to be fine, and if that's the case, you can keep both. Maybe I'm just a pessimist.)
  17. Looks good, thanks! McKeedee, if you get your islands, do you want me to remove you from your current spot? (Although, I think for now you can have two spots until more people join, and then you can make up your mind.)
  18. An update on the Diaemus subforum. Chaos seems to have read it, and forwarded it on to Rubix. I presume that means that he'll do something about it, either soon or at the next big update.
  19. @Honey Badger: Technically, the area you indicated is rainforest, not jungle (you're the third person to get tripped up about that.) If that's a problem, reply back. P.S. Sir Jerric, Curiosity, and Seonid, are you all waiting for the new continent? I haven't received anything from you.
  20. Long story. We here are... special. (Okay, I could probably come up with a better sales pitch than that.)
  21. @Kobold: You mentioned a 'crisis in the North' which drove the Ice Kin south. I also had a crisis in mind, which drove my species (which I'm still developing) underground. About my species. They use lumuoles as a light source (but I may change this, because it's too much like spheres), and get food sources from green lumuole infested fields (because of this, most of them actually have minute traces of green lumuole powers). They have a few small populated areas which have been hollowed out, but it's dangerous to travel between them, because a particularly savage tribe of the spiders has set themselves up in the caverns. Whenever a small group passes by, they attack and pillage... something (lumuole related, maybe?), but when an armed force comes through, they are able to slink back into the background. I think they have orange lumuole powers, as they can quickly create burrows and pathways in the earth with their spittle, which acts like acid on the ground (if this is stretching what you had in mind for them, then never mind). In fact, they have a form of capital punishment there, in which the condemned can either go into the non-populated parts of the caverns, or climb out onto the surface. Sorry for the disorganized nature of this post, I'm just writing down stuff as I remember it.
  22. When at the start of the series, the 'evil' side's basic infantry unit is made out to be much more big and scary than it actually is. Star Wars is the most commonly pointed out, with Stormtroopers that 'never miss', except for... every single time, but Trollocs (Wheel of Time), Orcs (LotR, Inheritance Cycle, bunch of other stuff), Goblins (Hobbit, LotR, bunch of other stuff) and loads of other creatures follow this pattern as well. While I understand that this is part of 'character development', showing that they have grown better than that creature, but it seems slightly unrealistic to have a major fight sequence with one Orc at the beginning, to then have an entire batallion attack the same character at the end of that book and prove only a mild inconvenience.
  23. Well, Sir Jerric actually created the map, not me. But it is a very good map, yes. My compliments to the cartographer. Once the subforum is up, I may also start a thread which includes maps as to where various species and where various empires are located. (I've sent a PM to Chaos about that, but he doesn't appear to have read it yet.)
  24. Kobold, TwiLyght, Morzathoth & Warden: Please check that you are happy with your spots. Slowswift: I'll need a lot more information that that. Even if it's just a vague idea, you can still change it later. Regarding a second continent, I'd rather it be displayed in such a manner that the current map doesn't have to shift. Either have it in the empty space, or right on the other side of the planet (we can make this where humans came from originally). I'm using Photoshop CS2 for making this, so I can reimport the image with a new continent on the side, but not if the continent itself has been shifted to fit the new one in. Does that make sense? Anyway, here it is.
