I don't have all the answers, but I do know off the top of my head that... Have we ever seen a kandra on another world besides Scadrial? Yes. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/7751-wheres-waldo-the-kandra-worldhopper/?hl=%20where#39;s If Atium is Ruin's body, what's with the non-metallic corpse that dropped when Vin killed him? The human body was Ati, the person who was holding the shard of Ruin

This sounds awesome! Where do I sign? Some thoughts though, Is the Miridian inside or outside of time? (not sure if that makes a difference .x.) How would you get there? When you say matter, can it be any physical matter? Because the obvious flaw in that is you burn the matter to timehop, and then when you're done just timehop back to before you timehopped so the matter is never used... (What about using a system where each person has a limited amount of time jumps that cannot be regained? (Similar to "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time") Then you could end the game once everyone has run out of time jumps.) When it comes to time paradoxes, why not use something similar to forgery? Specifically, your actions don't affect history until your next timehop- and if you create a contradiction the miridian simply spits you back out and all actions you took during that hop are negated? Just some thoughts :V

Expanding on KoN's logic, how about this: What if the planet was made out of a giant crystal shard? It wouldn't necessarily be a perfect cube- but the way crystal structures form, shouldn't it be possible to have a planet composed of straight edges? Suppose, hypothetically, that there exists some ancient incredibly concentrated crystal structure floating in space which has been untouched long enough for it to grow a balanced structure- and then for whatever reason this hypothetical structure is shattered. I know crystals don't exactly grow in cubes, but a planet sized crystal fragment would have sharp edges like a cube. A solid crystal planet would explain why the planet doesn't erode into a sphere- and because light can travel through the planet, atmospheric circulation wouldn't have such a steep contrast. Lets assume that over a long period of time, a layer of grit and water builds up on the surface of the planet due to meteors hitting the planet- thus making it capable of supporting life and plants. Even with most of the surface covered, light can still travel through the planet through the peaks (since grit would slide down the edges due to gravity), thus creating a translucent mountain range on each edge of the planet. Due to how thin the surface would be, deep rooted plants like trees wouldn't be as tall- a lot of the landscape would presumably revolve around flowing planes of wild grass, and because of that the most dominant wildlife would be mammals and serpents I guess. A society developing on the surface wouldn't have the luxury of metals or cellars given they wouldn't be able to pierce the planets surface- but perhaps since the planet was made by a giant crystal shattering, the civilization thrives on scavenging smaller crystal fragments that frequently fall to the planets surface. Since these crystals are hypothetically almost unbreakable, they'd play a huge part in the society that develops- imagine a religion that literally revolves around their gods giving them practically unbreakable crystal to make tools. I dunno, just some ideas :V

Hi! I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to present this, so just hear me out. Most of you here probably know me as a semi-commenter/spectator on the 17th shard, but about two years ago I started an RP with some close friends on the steam forums. The premise was to create a story set after the events after The Screecher (don't ask why), which is a basic jumpscare horror story mod which was made for Don't Starve years ago. Since the story ended on a cliffhanger, it left a lot of room to expand on. I've run very primitive mystery RP games in the past, so I wanted to try something new- specifically, I wanted to test whether it was possible to create genuine fear using a story as a medium when the protagonist had complete control over their circumstances (to some degree). This was around the time sharing Google docs became a thing, so I came up with a new (I think) way to use it- each player got their own doc that only they and I could view/edit, and the actions they took in their document could affect what happened in other peoples documents. The point was to emphasize each players mortality- I tried to make it seem like death was permanent consequence, similar to being "eliminated" in Sanderson Elimination, when in reality when a player was caught by a screecher they would become a screecher themselves. Using Google Docs meant secrets and exploration were a huge focus, and forced the group to act as a team in order to survive. I started out with a basic Monster Hunt mystery cliche with each player having to trust each other- and it... escalated a lot from there... The game started in 2014 and ended on December 31 2015, 409 pages total between 5 players. Naturally, I want to share the story to anyone who's up for reading it. I There's a lot of inconsistencies and bad writing, especially at the start, but I want to try run a game like this again (with scifi instead of horror)- any suggestions on how the style could be improved would be appreciated. Please note before reading... There are no preplaced stats like "health" or "dexterity", at the start of the game I simply gave the players a list of strengths and weakness's to choose from and just kept those attributes in mind when they made an action. I am planning on changing this next time >:3 Inventory is very poorly managed. Just.... ignore it.... xOx; Not all the mysteries have been solved, maybe someone will be able to solve them- but I don't think I remember all the answers... I'll answer any questions if there are any. I stole a lot of cliches. Like, an unhealthy amount. Basically whatever I was reading at the time. Since this is the 17th shard, you might recognize a few. I tried to edit out as many obvious ones as possible, but it's possible some escaped. It's probably just best to assume the game takes place on modern civilization Scadrial. There's also a lot of... Disney songs? I guess I thought they were atmospheric and fit the art style? I haven't actually read the documents back to back, could turn out to be really boring- in which case Anyway, thanks for listening! Here are the docs: Joelius Caesar, The Martyr (also referred to as Grue) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DIM67bomBayEOuPzipAPKRPVBDr6lOXZ3FoX9dhofzg/edit?usp=sharing Turquoise, The Monster Incarnate (also referred to as "Fireknight", "Sunknight", and "Breadknight") https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eyN_fky2sS2IoHyO2U6UhCYt59idJoyrFqjEf3jVmLE/edit?usp=sharing Luxurious195, A Time Thief (also referred to as Lux) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JzjTRTEcKWOzw6mfMdXWPt2BxgAy-aBBxDszkep_pHY/edit?usp=sharing Order, An Angel of Judgement https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uX8eerckNuvyECq1COHd06TIJh316eQ-FVW8RSRnAZA/edit?usp=sharing Pwnclub & MarioAlexsan, The Wildcards (also referred to as "Rio") https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y_Zsa6BXlwOkANf01PjHQzpW5Q837bo9nygMEhdWrQI/edit?usp=sharing [To clarify, Pwnclub had to drop out early in the game- so I killed his character off and moved on. Marioalex turned up a few months later, new to the forum, and wanted to join- so I thought it'd be cool if he took over where Pwnclub left off, emphasising the transition between man and screecher] Let me know if you have a favorite perspective and moments and I'll pass them onto the players ^-^ And... If you want to take part in a game like this... I'll put a roster on the 17th shard too if people are interested on joining Thanks again!

To define a true author, you must first define a false author. A false author is someone who pretends to be an author, so logically a true author is someone who doesn't pretend to be an author. ... That sounded better in my head x.x

Hoid, a Certain WoB, and Adonalsium
Unodus replied to GenericMastermindAnt's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, this is all just assumption, but there is a very clear missing link between Midius (I know he's not really canon yet, but...) and the post-Hoid/ Wit we know and love. We see post-Hoid using an array of magic systems, so we know he's willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve his goals- yet we don't see him using dragonsteel related magics (I think), which we know were relevant to the breaking of the god of gods (and, hopefully, dragons). The Letters do give us an inkling on the missing link though. Hoid mentions "The Element" and his passion to intervene- if Hoid did once hold a power capable of shattering the god of gods this would suggest he can't do it now as he hasn't used it since, and the line "I protect its safety like I protect my own skin, you might say" does support GMA's argument that the weapon is a physical part of Hoid. Also, the replying letter says "Have you given up on the gemstone, now that it is dead?". Perhaps that is the change which therefore qualifies Hoid as the weapon that was broken- without the gemstone, Hoid can't access that power. The recipient also notes how Hoid as a Harbinger of Chaos, what could be more worthy of the title than the one who shattered god? Just a thought :V -
Will edit some RP here soon, just don't want to miss the deadline x.x Action 3 Who? Gardell in her capacity as House Lord What? Arranging a marriage for Vizius When? first action Why? No point making more heirs now. If I'm going to have enough time to marry one heir off a turn, better start now.

Action 0 Who? Gardell in her capacity as House Lord What? Trying for an Heir Why? Because I'm lazy =x= Gardell spun through the mists, dancing through the night air. The mist tonight were just perfect for Mistborn to slip under the covers of darkness and escape the toxicity of financial paperwork. She slipped on her new scarf for good measure, a long flowing scarf weaved from several tassels that easily wrapped around her entire face and trailed behind her as she flew- mistscarves weren't exactly the height of fashion these days, a noble lady mistborn shouldn't feel the need to hide their face, but she had an image to maintain for her house. Shouldn't let any "lesser mortals" realize she was human too, her mother would always say. Gardell tossed a coin and arced towards her destination. The Skaa Slums. They were always the most likely to be empty during the mists, as long as she stayed away from the bars or the... brothels.... Lord, what would she do if she actually saw someone she recognized there? What if they recognized her behind the scarf? The thought made her shudder, some aspects of high society were just a little too cold- sometimes more aspects than she was willing to admit. Picking an empty wall, almost entirely at random, Gardell opened her pack and took out three vials. One bright red, one white, and one dark maroon- the most valued colors on the market. Turns out, when your house controls a significant portion of the dye industry- getting the good stuff was almost too easy. Determined, she set to work. The actions were familiar to her, they were a routine she divulged in as frequently as possible. First, she took the white powdered dye- like chalk, but smoother- and covered her fingers with a thick amount of white dust. Sporadically, she traced long lines across the wall with her finger, leaving a thin line of white in her wake- using allomonacy to reach the higher parts of the wall. After a minute or so, she paused to admire her handiwork. To a casual observer, the lines would just look like a web of scribbles- a mess a child could make, not distinct or important in anyway. To the professional eye though, if you looked at the right place just at the right time... There. The lines reorganized themselves in Gardells mind, twisting and pulling like the mists themselves until she found an image. Sometimes it was a bird, sometimes it was a man. Today, she saw a lion- as tall as the wall itself. How had she missed seeing that obvious mane like crest when she was drawing it? Grinning behind her scarf, she picked up the maroon paint- a thick oil mixture this time- and outlined the shape of the lion as she saw it, shading in little details as she went. Though she enjoyed every second, it was over in minutes. For good measure, she gave it a second coat anyway- giving the lion fur a rich texture and pronounced eyes. She only ever stopped once it was perfect. The large imposing lion stared out into the distance, as if searching for anyone who would dare defy it's divine right to it's sacred wall. Whether it actually looked like a lion or not was debatable- she'd never seen one herself, only old records recorded such creatures. Taking the lighter red, almost blood-like in texture, she wrote with her index finger the words "Even though the sun is behind the clouds, I know it will shine on through." in big bold letters. She didn't think why, the words just seemed to fit. Maybe it'd inspire some Skaa philosopher, make a change from just angry rioting- though philosophical Skaa were probably rarer than lions. A cracking bang interrupted her thought process. Screams. Instinctively, she took to the roof- out of sight. A Koloss drenched in blood sprung into view, carrying in one of it's over sized hands the limp figure of a child. The mist was pierced by the sound of a sobbing mother. The Koloss scratched it's head and swung, and the crying stopped. Shocked, Gardell held back screaming as she recovered. Fear was replaced with fury. What kind of God would allow this? If only she'd brought a weapon. Coins would only get so far, and she'd never had to use a knife before. She stood up anyway, "I'll make you pay, creature. Those people did nothing wrong- they were just..." The humongous creature swiveled around and locked eyes with her. Lord Ruler, those eyes... They were wild, like an animal. Gardell froze. It's eyes stopped at the wall with lion, and for a moment it looked like it was on the verge of remembering something. Seeing an opening, she tossed the nearest thing she could grab- her paints. The glass shattered on the monsters hard skull, and with a roar it dropped everything and clutched at it's delicate eyes- which only served to rub the dye in further. Gardell turned to leave, but stopped when she saw the child twitch and cough. Somehow it was still alive. The creature was lashing out randomly now, destroying everything around it. It managed to break off where the lions head was with a single swipe. If I could just save one life... Gardell was already at the childs side- she was there even before she decided to help him. Foolish. His arms were crushed, but he was breathing. A young boy, barely four- what had the world come to? She had to leave. Rusts, what would her mother say if she saw her trying to save a Skaa? The next moment lasted for what felt like an eturnity, as the Koloss lunged out and crushed her lower spine. Gardell was found the next morning in a pool of her own blood, clinging on miraculously thanks to pewter. Over the course of a month, she lay in bed unconscious. The incident was kept a secret to prevent a public outcry- her brother Atelt secretly took over the accounts while she recovered. When she awoke, Gardell discovered she had lost the ability to move her own legs. For days, she wept. She would never be able to walk the mists again.

Perhaps, after generations of metal ingestion- scadrians have simply just evolved to be more resistant to metal toxicity?

What about having a cadmium tooth put in? Kinda extreme, but if you've been caught- you could pull it out with your tongue and swallow it whole (assuming you actually need it in your tummy...). Even though it is poisonous, if you coat it with a white rubbery substance (to make it look like a tooth) that should stop the metal from poisoning you until you need to burn it- like a pill. You could carry a whole bag of false cadmium teeth with you and put them in whenever you need them. Only problem, I suppose, is that you're going to need to lose a tooth first...

Looking back at Trelagism- if Trell is a shard, does that mean we can anticipate Nalt being a shard too? Actually, the existence of Trelagism must mean Trell has visited scadrial in some form prior to the final empire. Presumably when TLR moved the planet Trell couldn't find it, but when Sazed moved it back (using Trelagism as a reference ironically, iirc) that must have been when Trell noticed it return to it's original position. I wonder why he hasn't tried to communicate with Sazed though- perhaps he holds him responsible for Leras and Ati's death? Just a few passing observations, sorry if these have already been mentioned x.x

Pardon me, Ythvinaj Khriniahnya, but I do in fact have some questions regarding your intriguing social structure. I'm not entirely sure if a priest can interpret my complex legal inquiry, though I'd be interested in hearing your opinion. Suppose this scenario: A woman of Chaod Leu society is married happily to a man in the Tradesman Caste. Over many years, they have earned a considerable amount of wealth to be pass onto their firstborn when he inherits the business. Suddenly, the Father disappears inexplicably- presumed dead. Due to the nature of the contract, this makes the woman the distributor of the inheritance in this case- but can't decide who gets the money until either the husband is confirmed dead or eight years elapse since he is only missing. Because of this, over the period of many grieving years, she is visited by various suitors who- despite the social disapproval- are desperate enough to attempt marrying this woman in order to use the inheritance for their own means. In the end, she falls in love with a member of the Warriors Caste who had been appealing to her due to his financial and social position- and after a long period of courting, the two marry. The woman's son, not old enough to run the trading business- is also moved to the warriors caste. A few happy years pass, in which another child is born- who is placed in the slave caste. Life in the Warriors caste, despite the marriage disapproval, has been successful so far- and since the eight year threshold has elapsed they can make use of the finances in order to support society. One day, the Womans original husband is found. It is revealed to the world that, shockingly, he was foreign spy- sent by demons to infiltrate Chaod Leu society! The scandal has the Warrior caste in uproar! So, given the complex nature of this case... Is the woman, who intermixed unknowingly with a demon, automatically placed within the half-soul caste? If she is, what happens to her firstborn- who is descended from a Demon? If she is placed within the half-soul caste, what happens to her second husband? Strictly, the two aren't allowed to intermingle- is the marriage declared invalid, or does the second husband also get taken into the half-soul caste? And if so, what happens to her second child? Who isn't descended from demon blood, and is (if the marriage is declared invalid) the firstborn of his house? Does he stay in his caste, move up, or moved into the half soul caste too? And finally, what happens to the demon-funded inheritance which has been used to improve society? Does the wife get to keep the remaining inheritance? And is the money now supporting the economy terminated? Again, apologies for the strangeness of the case- I hope I haven't missed anything obvious.

They could have electricity if they were completely dependent on chemical electricity (something like lithium batteries, I guess). I'm not the best at science, but I believe spinning magnets to generate electricity was discovered after chemical electricity? (don't quote me on that though x.x). I imagine electromagnets would be possible with electricity, though. Another argument would be that if magnets were invested, and by spinning them it was possible to generate energy- wouldn't spinning an invested hemalurgic spike have the same effect? Just a thought, given we're expecting mechanical uses of the arts from the south :3
