  1. Alright, I've finally settled on the edits to my characters. It doesn't really cause any significant changes. I'll get to that in a minute though. First, I want to say that we need folks to post! It's two days shy of a full month, and I want to avoid double posting. Second, as far as Newan's character is concerned, I like the idea of Voidus picking her up. That way Winter isn't posting both sides of the tribal conflict. Third, I think Comatose is right, we need some sort of plot to pull us together beyond the simple tribe v tribe. Obviously this becomes something that Mrs. Voidus has complete veto powers over. One idea that came to my head was to have a god or goddess of reincarnation. Those belonging to his/her tribe would have extra lives (6-10) rather than the base 5, and would have the ability to drain lives from others. If I were creating the tribe I'd make it so the members had a default 5, and gained more by stealing them. I'd also give them the power of Fast Development, causing members to reach adulthood very quickly (1-5 years) rather than the norm for humans of ~20 years. Such a tribe would be incredibly antagonistic to all of Paidia, as it would threaten the culture and lifestyle of almost every tribe. The Fast Development would also allow antagonists to return with relatively few and small time jumps. All right, below are the characters I've updated. For completion sake, here's a link to my post with the other two characters of mine. Kantern Umbra Gwenwyn Inficio Hostislevis Umbra Other NPCs
  2. I disagree, but only because when discussing Slivers Brandon has never mentioned Susebron. He always brings up Kelsier and Vin. Slivers are individuals that have held the power of a Shard but then lost it or gave it up, correct? I don't think Susebron quite fits that description. He'd first need enough Breath to ascend, and then descend for whatever reason.
  3. A lot of Breath. More than we've seen as of yet. Remember that Susebron was at the Tenth Heightening, so he had at least 50,000 Breaths, but there's never a mention of him being a Sliver, in WoB or otherwise. So it's presumably way more than we've seen.
  4. I hate being sick. I really, truly do. I've legitimately gone through an entire Kleenex box since 8am this morning...

  5. Over the weekend I grabbed a few books for my personal library, and among them was Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi. I have been a Star Wars fan ever since I was a wee lad, but I never introduced myself to the EU officially. It was so large by the time I hit the age where I was interested in venturing beyond the movies, that I was too daunted to even try. I did do some research, though, so I knew a fair few things. That being said, Disney's rehashing of the canon brings with it an interesting opportunity in that I can jump in and be well-versed, even if a fair portion of the old fanbase jumps ship out of spite. So I decided to read Heir to the Jedi. I'm about 100 pages in, currently, and I have to say I'm a little depressed. The book, for those who don't know, takes place between Episodes IV and V, and is told through Luke's first person POV. Luke generally has zero working knowledge of the Force beyond what Ben parted on him during Episode IV, and so the book is meant for us to learn just how Luke's self-teachings proceed, prior to Episode V. An interesting idea, to say the least. My first problem with the novel is that I do not feel the author has portrayed Luke correctly. The character feels odd, and though Hearne does capture Luke's optimism quite well, he makes Luke far more doubtful than I feel the character actually is. At one point Luke doubts the intentions of a would-be companion, but at another point blindly trusts someone he's just meant. It feels very conflicting, and I find it hard to believe. My second problem with the novel, though this is more of a personal issue than an actual problem, is that Hearne is trying to make the novel a Space Opera movie in a book. Like the Star Wars films, the book takes the reader to many a different place, like any good Space Opera. The issue is the amount of time Hearne spends detailing these things. My issue, though, is that it feels like Hearne is trying to describe a movie when he's giving the details, rather than a more organic approach that other authors tend to take. All in all I can't say I'm not enjoying the novel, nor can I say I'm going to stop reading it, but I have been thoroughly convinced to not try another novel by Hearne. Hopefully the next new canon book (Lords of the Sith) will be better, as my intro into this new canon is not going very well.
  6. Though all your questions are rather interesting, I just want to pass a quick comment on this one. The prejudice against women, from what I've researched, is generally understood to stem from the dawn of agriculture. Prior to agriculture, humanity was a hunter-gatherer society. As such, men, who are naturally more built for athletics, were the hunters, and women defaulted to gatherers. The key to this situation, however, is that hunting is incredibly unpredictable, while gathering isn't. As such, women did more of the successful providing, and it is quite possible humanity was matriarchal for a time. Everything changed when the fire nation attacked when agriculture became a thing. Agriculture, being very physically taxing, became something the men did. Suddenly men were the providers. Women, who suddenly lacked a major providing role, slowly became viewed as inferior, and the rest, as they say, is history. That's what I was taught in my World History courses, anyways.
  7. In addition to what Lord Tavash Star said, Warbreaker heavily implied, if it didn't down right say it, that True Perfect Pitch, Perfect Color Recognition, and Perfect Life Sense are beyond natural human capabilities.
  8. Open spoiler for a very nice map of the connections of the books.
  9. Gen I and III.5 Bulbasaur Squirtle Charmander Gen I only Pikachu Gen II and IV.5 Chikorita Totodile Cyndaquil Gen III and VI.5 Treecko Mudkip Torchic Gen IV Turtwig Piplup Chimchar Gen V and V.5 Snivy Oshawott Tepig Gen VI Chespin Froakie Fennekin Umbreon and Espeon, though they are the Pokemon you start with in Colosseum as you say, are not considered starter Pokemon. Starter Pokemon, as fanonically defined (might be canon?) are of types Grass, Water, or Fire that the player is given as their first Pokemon within the handheld RPGs. In addition, the starter Pokemon is not capable of being caught during regular gameplay of the given generation (i.e. Gen VI starters cannot be caught during regular gameplay of Gen VI games). Pikachu is included due to being the only starter in Yellow Version, and the wide popularity of said version. WLIU name 5 elements in the Lanthanide or Actinide series of the periodic table.
  10. AH! Okay, my brain conviniently skipped over that whole Nahel necessary bit Apologies.
  11. Pokemon ORAS made Contests too easy. Gen 3's were much harder than this...
  12. Why are you equating fabrials and Honorblades? It could easily be that Honorblades can heal soul wounds but fabrials can't. Remember that Brandon has said on multiple occaisions that there are multiple differences between what Szeth claims he can't do and what Kaladin actually does (not just the 10-heartbeat thing). It could easily be that Szeth could heal soul wounds, but because he thinks he can't the power won't work (not that he's ever been soul wounded to try).
  13. Huh...? Windspren is evolving! doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doooo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doooo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doooo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doooo Baa baa baa BaaDaaDaa Baabaa Baa Daaaaaaa Congratulations! Your Windspren evolved into Honorspren!
  14. Spoilers don't work on titles. Luckily the title isn't spoiler-ey. You should spoil out your OP with a small section outside the spoiler notifying others that it is Firefight spoilers (at least until a mod comes along and moves this).
  15. Perhaps Brandon assumed the question was asked because Lightflame found her in another book, not because he logiced his way to the conclusion. This could imply another appearance where she's named a different Terris-like name.
  16. Nale says he used Surgebinding, but he still is holding the fabrial-like object as he was in the original scene. This leads me to believe that Nale views fabrials as Surgebinding (as they kinda are), but that the healing was still due to a fabrial (Skybreakers do not have natural access to Regrowth, assuming Nale has an honorblade and it's his).
  17. You can read Warbreaker for free on Brandon's website in html format, or download the pdf to use with an e-reader. That alleviates the first of your two problems Here is the link to the pdf download. If you prefer the html version, click on the "Library" tab at the top of Brandon's site, then click the Warbreaker link from the page that takes you to. The drop down on the right side of the page allows you to navigate chapters. Welcome!
  18. For both of his previous two he's tried to answer all questions asked during the "active" time of the Q&A, even though it took him days to find time in his schedule to get through them. You both are in the first 100, I have no doubt he'll get to you. Interestingly enough, Kobold, you're not the only on who asked about Regalia's weakness. Someone else whose name I don't recognize did too.
  19. Alright, so here's the questions I've asked, mostly pertaining to gaseous investiture as that's been on my mind recently:
  20. Does anyone know if this is potentially postponed due to Pratchett's passing? Pratchett was one of Brandon's favorite current author (if not the favorite), and he's tweeted he'll make a blog post, likely a form of Eulogy as he did for Jordan. It occured to me that this might interfere with the AMA plans. Nevermind. It's live.
  21. Good point. We have no idea how Yolish Lightweaving works. I'm curious if it could absorb the aura of the Second Heightening to make it not noticeable.
  22. Ah! Okay, our references for low concentration were different. I got you now. Thanks for the clarification.
  23. As far as low concentration transfers go, the one I quoted before was a transfer of 25 Breaths. Outside of the little girl giving her Breath to Lightsong, I'm pretty sure that is the lowest concentration we have. Here's the description with the girl: The lack of extra description, plus the parallel use of "puff" makes me believe that you can't tell the difference between the two descriptions. Regardless, I was merely wondering why you'd think the aura was like Stormlight.
  24. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Sir Terry Pratchett has passed away. May he rest in peace. As a side note to this solemn post, it seems it might be true that celebrities die in threes. First Nimoy, now Pratchett. Hopefully the third is not another SFF icon. Edit: Here's the news article.
  25. All right. I'll partake, so could someone hlep clarify some details for me. I've only ever made one post on Reddit. Spoilers. How do you do. I saw the description on r/books, but it totally didn't help. From what I understand, I type [Question 1] (/s "My actual question goes here.") is that correct? What is the etiquette? Do I just post my questions and patiently wait for Brandon's response, which could come hours later (by the looks of the former AMA Weiry linked to). If I comment to his answer asking for clarification, how likely is he to get back to me? To echo Kobold, how many questions is appropriate? Thanks in advance.
